Two scans (http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=5694) from Shonen Jump have surfaced. They detail Photon Arts as well as give a little information on the menu system for your weapons.

Photon Arts are, from what I can tell, very powerful special attacks which consume photon points from your weapon. And speaking of weapons, two categories are detailed: sword-type (saber, sword, dagger, double saber, and twin dagger) and fist-type (knuckle, claw, and twin claw). Not really any new info, just some new screens of those weapons being used. The second of the two pages shows off the menus of the game. The top half of the page displays the physical attack Photon Arts menu while the bottom half displays the technique PA menu system. It seems that with the tech-type weapons, you'll be able to assign a certain number of techs to them. For example, one of the screens here shows the user opening up a menu for the rod, which has two "slots" for techniques. Another window pops up showing each of the techs the character has learned. In this case, foie, rafoie, gifoie, barta, rabarta, and zonde. (There's actually room for more, as there is a scrollbar on the window, so I'd assume at least resta and probably razonde are included here.) From there, you select which techs you'd like to assign to the weapon, and that's it. I'm noticing, though, that the tech level system from PSO has slightly changed. Before, you went from a base tech (foie, barta, zonde) to the gi-level (gifoie, gibarta, gizonde) for a medium attack and then to the ra-level (rafoie, rabarta, razonde) for your strongest attack. In PSU, it looks like the gi- and ra-levels have been reversed. For example, in the menu, the foie group is listed as foie, rafoie, gifoie.

Very nice scans.
Glad they also explain how exactly the techniques are used and set in weapons, showing that rods/canes/whatever are merely used to channel the technique energy, but don't limit what you can do with them.

Hmm, I wonder if these attacks have anything to do with the Yellow bar we saw slowly filling up underneath our hero's HP? (Think back to the E3 Demo or DigitalLife videos)

Or, could this be the Human equivalent of the Beast/Cast 'abilities' that have been revealed? (The transformation into Beast Form and big-boom-mecha-rar thing) Although, for something so big and flashy, it would seem a tad silly to make it class exclusive, if that is the case.

Regardless, purdy stuff!

EDIT: Woo, I can no longer spell!

-drools- Love the screens ><; Thanks for the rough translation http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif Well, I'm looking forward to making both a melee character and a mage character in PSU now more than ever ^__^; One thing's for sure, they better have more spells than the ones in PSO >_>; I don't care if they put other spells from the PS series, just as long as it's more than PSO. Like a spell to sleep enemies or confuse them. Wind spells and earth spells http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif Though from what I've seen in one screenshot, they even have water, so far so good.

That's some pretty awesome info.

So it looks like melee classes will be able to execute special techniques, which will probably have varying power/range and stuff.

Are these special techniques going to be the last 3 attacks of a 6-hit combo? I remember reading somewhere about Ethan being able to execute 3 "normal attacks" and then stacking some attack called "Cross Ream" 3 times on top of that.

Do you think "Cross Ream" would be one of the special attacks that's described in article?

I wonder what this means for ranged weapons. Maybe they'll have their own special attacks that are more photon-costly as well.

Hm.. I notice the single-hand weapons can be used together like a pair.. such as daggers & now, claws, aka twinclaw. ;]

Great new scans with great new info, freakin' sweet!

In Scan 1, Ethan's little two-pronged photon claw made me ask myself one question, "What does Captain Insano do to the bad guys?"

You answered your own question. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif A glowing box of pain! A fist type weapon maybe?

I remember seeing something similar on another screenshot. It was the one where one guy had 2 red sabers, and the fat mogg one had little glowing hands, but I didn't see the huge box parts on his arms.

Idk if thats a knuckle or a portable bazooka (porta-zooka, anyone?). Whatever it is, I wanna try it! http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif Knowing me, Ill try every wep type at least once or twice. If PMs CAN atk in battle, we're going in at the same time: 2 sabers for me, 2 for it. Four sabers at once. Kinda like General Grievous only Im not about to get my ass handed to me like he did! http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I didn't really care for the knuckle, but a portable bazooka, that's more my kind of weapon (i still think its a knuckle) But what a cool thought!

Can you give your PMs weapons?

I hope the fist weapons will have lots of cool moves, now that we've seen all the weps have awesome specials.

No problem, guys. (About the scans and translations.) I'll try my best to share the latest info on PSU that I can find with everyone. I know how anxious most of us are about this game, so having just a little more new info on it every once in a while helps out a bit as far as holding us over.

Perhaps there are just different styles of photon knuckles, or maybe the ones shown being worn by Do Vol were an early model?

From the looks of it, once your PM evolves into a little mini-cast that accompanies you into battle, you can give it weapons. I haven't actually seen the PM in-battle, only posing alongside Ethan for a picture holding a saber that's about as big as the PM itself. XD

And to think, some people bitch about mags not being in PSU when PMs are going to be 10x as much fun as mags ever were. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Whose mag ever carried around a giant saber?

if our PM's will be able to equip weapons of choice, it should make PSU all the more interesting.

have a melee character backed up with a PM ranger. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Indeed, or even have a PM casting healing/support techniques (somehow it might not be possible, but only ST knows right now).
If such is possible, it'll really be a great asset. ^_^

Well, EspioKaos did say that "with the tech-type weapons, you'll be able to assign a certain number of techs to them." So maybe if you give your PM a cane or something you could equip it with resta.
There's your PM casting healing techniques. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

If PMs give true combat support to the player, always a good idea to focus more on one's weaknesses or at least, have the PM be complimentary to your style of play. A cast would benefit greatly from a PM that can heal it or a ranger with an up front melee PM. I agree with this notion. True, the fun is playing with other ppl but for soloing, its good to know theres at least the possibility of a 2 person team to take on SEED. Should PMs actually have atk capabilities in battle, thats potentially a 12 person party. Thats just insane! I LOVE IT! http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

There's the possibility that PMs may take up party slots in online play, which would make sure the numbers remain in 6 attackers in a party, even with PMs taken into account.
But yes, I agree that 12 (6 players + their 6 PMs) would be one hell of a headache for the enemy monsters.

Its definately a knuckle, because it says...knuckle. >_>

It looks more like a white brick. Unless big spikes come out of it or something. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

I really hope that PMs dont take up party member slots. Mags didnt so these shouldnt either. Besides, PMs are referred to as support for the player so its more personal. I'll still hold onto the dream of a 12 player team til I know for sure. If this holds true, ST is gonna have to throw some major amts of monsters at us so its not TOO MUCH of an advantage. After laying them all to waste tho, its going to give a real sense of accomplishment seeing all those monsters at our feet. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Wow, 12 ass kicking warriors-if only that was available on PSO http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif-I would love to have PMs like that, but man I hope they don't take up space in your party. I hghly doubt they will tough, because mags didn't take up space and PMs are the replacemect for mags.

Then again mags didn't ever have weapons and go into battle with you.

I found out (& posted in the PM update post I made today) how PMs will fit in. To all who havent read it, please do. Comes from the horse's mouth, so to speak, on some of the functionality of our PMs.
