while looking at some screenshots Nisshoku, I noticed the different sections avaliable for costumes.

so far, I've seen for the male non-android this is what I see:

Jacket: 50 designs

Pants: 50 designs

Shoes: 50 designs

Voice Type/Pose Type* (?bo/po?isutaipu?): 5 designs

I'll try and keep things updated when I get more.

*not confirmed

50 jackets, 50 pants, and 50 shoes, huh? PSO, your character creation is now obsolete. I really like the choice of your voice type. That'll be cool.

So, is it definitely confirmed to get a voice type? Im not expecting full out speech (but would be great). If there were, expect tons of examples like:

1) Street Fighter - HA-DO-KEN! SHO-RYU-KEN!
2) Mortal Kombat - YOU WEAK, PATHETIC FOOL! GET OVER
HERE!
3) Dragonball Z - SPECIAL-BEAM-CANNON! KA-ME-HA-ME-HA!

announcing of moves as they are done. LOL
Realistically, I expect the usual grunts, groans, etc? I love all the customizations we keep hearing about, making character creation more fun than task-bearing. I presume that for voices we will be choosing from gender-appropriate voices? Ive played enough games where females sound like males. I pray that trend doesnt come to PSU.

don't quote me on the voice type thing. the katakana was a little blurry so I wan't able to tell for sure.

it could likely be POSE TYPE aswell

It's "voice type," I assure you.

I think it's going to be quite awesome having your character audibly express themselves on the battlefield. Though, as was mentioned before, I don't expect it to be much more outside of grunts, screams, exclamations, etc., but it'll still be pretty cool.

EDIT: I just remembered that I posted my translations of the character creation screens at my message board a while back. I figure you guys might be interested in them, too, so here you go.

* If the face you choose for your cast is covered by metal plating, you will be given a slider to select the type of robotic eyes you want him or her to have. I have not been able to tell the effect the slider has on the eyes, however. If your face shows features such as a distinct mouth, nose, and eyes, you will be given a choice of three eye types and the eyebrows and eyelashes options will open up for further customization.

Yes, underwear. Seriously. Don't think of it as underwear like bras, panties, and the like, but more along the lines of Under Armour (http://www.underarmour.com/) athletic clothing. From what I could tell, you can only alter the color of your character's underwear as opposed to style. But, I guess that could change in the final version of the game.

i am really looking foward to the poses. cause i was seddened that RAmarls were the only ones that could hold the handguns sideways. and i can see it now, people going into battle mode and clearing out the first room not 2 fight... but for a dance off (clever combo of poses). or maybe that was just me and my friend on our down time -_-

Note that there may be 2-3 variations of the same piece of clothing, but in different color schemes.

I can't wait to see what all the different clothing designs are.

I wish ST would release a catologue showing us the different kinds of clothing we can use.

having this before PSU comes out would be nice, so we can all decide on what we want to go with our characters http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Shoot, if I can't have a mixed gender character, then what fun is that? A giant Male Cast with a petite girl's voice. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif Or Zarode (female cast) with a deep, bass male's voice. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

I do like how there is going to be tons of clothes and such to pick from. This is going to be neat. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif

I just had the most hilarious thought. If the underwear really were underwear...imagine the craziness! PANTY RAID!!! OK OK Im kidding. Seriously tho, to be able to build our chars from pretty much skin & upwards is VERY detailed, even more than Ive seen before. Im guessing the style of 'underneath wear' (to clarify) would reflect the racial background of your char. Id fall over if you could opt to wear a jacket or not. Like if a monster gets on your nerves, you could pull a Bruce Lee. Take off your jacket, throw it to the ground, then REALLY throw down! http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
Id still like to see if we can add other small things like tattoos, scars, bandages, etc. There was a scarred face for RAmarl (the one I chose) & I like the option of doing so but Id rather it not be limited to a SPECIFIC face. As Ive said before (& agree here), I really hope we get to see all the options to choose before the game comes out. If the strategy guide comes out 1st, that would help immensely. Even better if we can do it online to get a feel for whats there. Idk about taking 2 days to start up a char but one could take at least a 1/2 hr on PSO easily. Given what we know about PSU...gonna clear an hr w/o thinking about it.

Yeah, compared to the number of choices for all the other aspects of character creation 5 different choices for your voice isn't much. The only thing that would really bother me is if there was only one voice that didn't sound retarded and that's the one everyone had...like there was only one voice.

I think that song is worth downloading, but that's just me...

Wow... That is a huge list of customisations.

It's going to easily take hours to check out all the races and their options, then more hours finetuning your character.

I'm not complaining though. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif This much customisation is very exciting and really gives you a chance to create a completely unique character.

I'm betting there'll still be lots of Cloud, Goku, Vegeta, Itachi and Sephiroth lookalikes. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

That's what I thought too! It's just going to take forever to look through everything and see what it all looks like then once you choose you're race you get to be stuck with sitting there for hours making it look just right.

Thank god for broadband. XD I don't have to pay per min, nor is there any time-limit cutoff. I'd hate to think the phone bill character customisation alone would run up...

I'd also hate to get cut off while finishing my character:

"OK, almost done... His eyes just need a little more green... *nudges slider*"

*drops pad in shock* "... NOOOOOOOO!!! TWO HOURS OF WORK! GONE!"

Anyway about those voices, if there's only 5 choices. I think it's pretty stupid hearing that another person has the same voice as you do. I mean, it will be like 'talking' to yourself. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Im gonna try not to go crazy & make 1 of every char type like I did in PSO. Thats just too many chars to work with. Besides, I doubt Ill have to. Someone, somewhere will pick a race & gender for every possibility. Im sure male humans will be the mass population but we'll see all types. Im positive of this.

FantasyJoy
Oct 31, 2005, 09:28 AM
People likes to start out with something easy to handle. Like Humans, because they're most balanced. So yeah. You will see many Male Humans like at PSO Humar's

OdinTyler
Oct 31, 2005, 09:37 AM
Ppl generally pick humans (in many RPGs) cause they think theyre the best. The truth is: humans generally...GENERALLY...suck in fantasy RPGs. Why? The idea is to pick another race. Be something you are not. Also, statistically, other races have higher advantages from the start point, over humans. Does this mean a human couldnt be a good char? No. Just means youll have to work harder on your char. In the PS games, the humans are most of the heroes & in the online games, one can see how balanced they are if you take the time to look. Most tend to focus on 1 or 2 stats & ignore the idea of balance. With now 4 races to play with, no class restriction, ppl will be able to easier see the positives & negatives of each race.
In an online game, normally, I do not choose humans unless it is to be balanced. My main, for example. In PSO, FOmarls are the most balanced char not only in their class, but in the whole game. Atk & support magic, ok atk & def capabilities, etc. Balance means the willingness to spread stats across & I havent seen many HUmars do that in the past. As of yet, we dont know what special abilities humans will have over the other races. I wont make it a practice to make human chars (other than my main) in PSU. When it comes down to it, make what youll be happy with & do your best to make that char as balanced as you can. To create greater strengths in one area, is to cause deficiencies in another. Just my 2 meseta...

FantasyJoy
Oct 31, 2005, 09:47 AM
Haha, I definitely agree with be somthing you aren't. I sometimes ask my friend:"Why do you never play with a female character?" Then they answer:"Are you crazy? You're a male! Then you play with some female character! Tss." (or something like that) I always thought that's a foolish argument. If you a male then you will stay a male your whole life. If you're human you will stay a human your whole life. Why don't you try something new. Try to feel as something different than yourself. In RPG's my first choice character will always be something else than Humans.

Well, Ive met ppl that were female but it turns out that they were male. Thats just not right. If youre up front, thats fine. Dont lie. If you lead, shall we say, an alternative life, thats fine too. Your life, your choice. Just be honest. The only real fantasy is pretending youre a char, not a whole separate person from who you are.

Giant asses? Thought someone said they had no booty? I told ya they did! Anyway, I think alot of that is just costume: folds & frilly stuff. You know how newmans dress alternatively. The most obvious example of this is the FOnewm. Apparently now, in PSU, the jester dress is traded in for what we've seen in some pics: the aforementioned 'pope' look! LOL

Rion772

Although I definately have to agree with you, Rion, the new PSU look for newmans is A LOT better. 'The Pope Look'

One of my questions about all this is will droids still have the ability to see traps with out assistance if that's so they they may well be come one of the more favored classes for people who prefer the hack and slash aspect of the game as opposed the the techs. As far as creation goes I can't wait to make a male newman tank char. It always bugged me that there was no HUnewman or even RAnewman when the newman had better ATA then humans. It will deffinantly take some time to make the first char but oh how sweet this will be. Sucks that we have to wait a whole freaking year to get it though.

OdinTyler
Nov 2, 2005, 03:17 PM
Not a whole year. We have a window of Feb to May (preferably Feb). If the added time is used properly to remove alot of bugs or add extra content, its worth it. However, they do owe us a release date. Feb isnt too far away & they really shouldve released the info by now. Newmans arent goofy, just some of the outfits are. What Ive noticed about them is throughout history, no 2 newmans dress the same. Nei & Rika definitely had some pretty cool outfits, as does Maya. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
Sure, we can make jokes about the outfits & such but you gotta wonder something. For the context of the story, what possesses some ppl to wear the outfits they wear? The newmans dressing like popes are obvious C.O.G. members so a more conservative dress is appropriate. Dont expect to necessarily choose that outfit, but, do expect to see it on quite a few NPCs. It would be nice if we were able to utilize all possible combos, not just have the NPCs tease us. Im just prepared for the fact that there are some things players may not necessarily have access to.

Only 17 Lvs to go. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif Even if the armor didnt look physically different, but there was some aura or effect, it would help. I know its asking too much, but, having battle dmg show on the armor or on you would be very cool. Even if we could add scars or dressings temporarily, as Ive suggested before for realistic, if not comic, reasons.

Hmm it'd be REALLY awesome if, based on our HP level our character's appearance changed a bit. Like if we were near death our faces could have scratches and be all bloodied up (it'd also be cool if this showed up on the cut-in chat thing) and when we were standing still with low HP we could be breathing hard or drop to one knee. Thats kinda asking for a lot though... but it'd be cool nontheless.

As long as we're talking about appearances I always thought it would be cool if we could equip secondary weapons that would appear on our characters. To go into more detail lets say there was an equipment slot for "Back" and "Belt". If I wanted to equip a large two-handed sword to my back slot and a pair of mechguns to my belt slot it would show up on my character as I was walking around, in addition to my primary weapon/weapons that I'd be fighting with. I've been thinking about that since my DC PSO days and I thought it'd be cool even if it is just for appearances.

Nah, with all the customizations present & knowing Japanese humor, Id be surprised if you couldnt wear those 'cross bandages' for at least humor purposes. Theyre supposed to at least represent some dmg incurred. I dont expect floating teardrops for nervousness, but, something you could wear temporarily like a sling or a even something like optional scars to add would add to the 'realism.'

Kano-Okami
Nov 9, 2005, 04:36 PM
The idea of visible damage would be hilarious with the androids too. Big dents, circuits shorting, and missing armor chips..sort of like the Dubchics after being knocked around a bit..
It'd be classic!

OdinTyler
Nov 9, 2005, 11:03 PM
Yes & if we cant add such dmg, if you recall, theres various armor from PSO where you see different effects such as flames or short circuiting. If we cant actually add wound dmg, perhaps add armor that would still create the same purpose. At least the illusion of it.

I wonder if there will be an option that your character get's permanetly scarred after receiving a wound.

An example would be Fable, my brother's character had scars literally on almost everyother inch of his body from playing so long.

I think that a cape would be more of a clothing-option than an item. And permanent scarring might be cool but I think you'd get tired of it. It would change the appearance of that char from how you made it originally. Maybe it would be cool...maybe. It would lead on to how much action some one's char has had.

And permanent scarring might be cool but I think you'd get tired of it. It would change the appearance of that char from how you made it originally.

I don't like the idea of visable scaring which we can't control. While visable damage is a good idea.. It would be nice to be able to pick and choose what changes you make to your character. After all, PSU is rather futuristic - and I'm sure they have ways of replacing eyes, digits, deformations, and remove scaring if you later don't like it. Kinda like in PSO where you could choose certain defects depending on your customization choice - such as eye patchs, scars, ect.

Like say... you fight a particularly tough battle against a boss and you and your team of close friends just barely survive. It would be nice to, once you get back to town, be able to choose the style of scar and the placement on the body to give you something to remember the battle by - or just make your character look a bit "tougher".

Yeah, irreversible things in video games really sucked fatties. There's more than one game that I've totally started over because I chose something unchangable that I didn't like. Oh well! And overgrinding...What the hell is that!?! I think that it's retarded to lose your weapon because it was misgrinded. It'll really teach people not to be so greedy with the grinding too. People like me http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

_Tek_
Nov 15, 2005, 09:45 PM
The problem is, how will we find the max grind of a weapon? Or rare? Stuff like that may need to be recorded, once a weapon gets destroyed. Perhaps we can jsut ask hackers to tell us what the code says on a weapon/raress grind limit, lol.

Then the first rare equivlant of the tjs found in psu won't get overgrinded.

We probably don't really know what it means for sure do we?

PhruitBaskit
Nov 16, 2005, 01:11 PM
Yes, that would be a problem. I think that that's exactly what we should do...Once an item gets overgrinded, it gets recorded. That would really help. Before you start grinding a weapon, you go on to PSOW and see how far you can go before you wreck it. And get help from hackers!?! I don't think so! Hackers suck! (just stupid chaeters) Hopefully, we won't see any hackers at all online...Hopefully.

Let's just hope there's some other way for the PSU TJ Sword to not get overgrinded LOL But like you said, we don't really know for sure what it means

Shade-
Nov 16, 2005, 02:01 PM

the question is, how will they use the dressing room. They might have it inside the character apartments now. So you'd have to go back to your character's 'crib' to change outfits..

(god I'm using mousekeys, this is ridiculous, but its getting easier, need a new mouse!)

Now about weapons(off topic) and costumes(on topic), I can merge those.

What if we're able to customize weapons colors? Now I've seen several screenshots, and at first the weapons colors looked very similar to PSO. Not the the photon/laser parts, the more solid parts. The sabers looked grey, the guns looked black, just like PSO.

Later all these weapons images were released showing everything with a red silver look. But all the red onnes were shown in online mode pics, and all the regular looking colors where in story mode. So perhaps they'll all be red/silver in the final product.

Another interesting point (not like the BS I just typed above, which you read, haw) is that its seems the handguns can be holstered. I noticed this long ago. In on screenshot its showed Hyuga with his handgun hooked to the straps on his leg. Also noticed how ethan's pants have that green strap on one side. That's pretty cool.

There, now I've merged the weapons talk with the costume talk, at about 1:30 a.m., listening to autechre...
