Question about char switching for the GC ver

So when i get my import can i take my chars that i have made from one GC to another and get online?
Or is there something that will stop me from doing that like the DC ver?
And i mean Jpn GC to Jpn GC.

I would think so, otherwise the split screen mode wouldnt be good for much, unless you have siblings who play.

As far as online on another Gamecube, I dunno.
