Sega Link Account Registration Information

While surfing the PSU site earlier today, I came across this link:

It appears there is a pre-registration campaign going on right now and you will receive certain prizes if you register early. These prizes seem to include an in-game item, exclusive screensaver, and entry into a lottery for a Net Cash Card. Also, it looks like you will have to use a cellphone or PC to register your account. You will not be able to do it on your PS2.

Since I'm not sure if this link had already been posted, I figured I would share it with everyone.

Hi, when trying to register for a ID I seem to always get a "This ID cannot be used" type error. Pretty sure everything else is filled in properly. I have tried many different ID's, most of which I'm certain are not in use. Any ideas what the problem could be? Appreciate any help. Thanks.

I registered, and I don't live in Japan. In fact, I made a post about this a few days ago in another thread. Registration was very painless.

I tried to register, but I can't get any text to input. I keep getting this error message which I have NO idea what it says.

I'd imagine it's a configuration problem, but can anyone tell me what it means for sure?

[EDIT]I found out what the problem was. Something to do with ActiveX controls I think. I was able to input the text once I went to the site in (ick) Internet Explorer. Now the only question is... How do I write my name in Katakana? I imagine I could use Babblefish to translate, but would that actually be accurate?

To eliminate the frustration factor, use Internet Explorer when going through this procedure. ActiveX controls are at use on SegaLink.

First block is login ID... to the right of the text field is a button to verify if the ID is available. Make sure you click on it after you type in your desired login ID.

For inputting your first and last name, you need to enable Japanese text input support through your regional settings in your control panel. Once enabled, you'll have a language bar active somewhere on your screen where you can bounce between text input modes. It's pretty self-explanatory how the language bar works.

When inputting something into the name fields, remember how the Japanese language works. For instance, my name is Jason Walton, and I ended up inputting my name as "jason waruton" in the respective Japanese letters.

Basically what Parn said, but googling "Type in Japanese" will most likely give you a full rundown of how to do it. FYI, if you're setting up your computer to be Japaense compliant for the first time, it will require a Windows XP CD/DVD.
