And when I went to pick it up this morning, it was on the shelves, and the cashier checked the price, and... then he said he couldn't sell it to me yet?!
WTF?
Then I go to the same place after work, and as I'm rushing for the isle, some old geezer gets in front of me, and... snags the last copy, and buys the damn thing!
Nice of you guys to realize you can sell the thing on the day of its release after all!
So they are out of them for the week... at least a week, if not longer.
Great.
Oh well, considering how often I've gotten online with Mario Kart DS, I guess I'm not missing much. I wouldn't have been able to play the game the way it was meant to be anyway without going to a McDonalds nightly, which I wasn't about to start doing.
Looks like it's snagges some good reviews already though. Just another reason to own a DS.

Picking up where the original thread left off:
In continuation of this thread, I managed to pick up the last copy of Animal Crossing Wild World at another store after work today.
I had been to a few stores previously, and all but this one had sold out of them on the day of release, so I was pretty happy about the find.
Then I went to McDonalds to use the working WiFi connection there, and... well unfortunately, you can't access the online world without first completing the chores that Tom Nook gives you to do when you first move into the town. The chores in this one are a hell of a lot easier, due to there only being four other people in town with you when you first move in. The amount of chores is also fewer than they were in the GC version, which was appreciated.
I didn't DO the chores until I got home though, so I wasn't able to get online with the game today. Having expected them to take a lot longer than they did, it was annoying, but whatever.
So far, the game is good. I don't like the rolling scenery as much as I liked the Acres from the last game, but it gives it a new feel, definately.
More to come as I learn more about it.

Once you do get up and running with the online gaming, it'll all be worth it though right?

I've been able to spend some more time with the game, and I've decided to point out the following things.
First of all, fishing has become a major pain in the side since the fish don't seem to home in on the bobber anymore. Of course, there is no rumble feature, and I'm not sure there would be one even with the rumble pack included with Metroid Prime Hunters Pinball. So when the fish strikes the bait this time around, a boink noise sounds off, and you know it's time to reel the fish in. Still, having to recast over and over is getting annoying fast.
There are different fish than there were before, I'm pretty sure. I'd have to dig out the strategy guide for the previous game and compare the two, but I'm fairly sure there wasn't an olive fish in the last one like there is in this one.
In the last game, during this time, there was snow all over the ground. So far in this version, which I've only had time to play a few times, the ground is clear of snow. It still reflects the daytime, night time changes, and it has the calender with it, so I'm going to think it changes seasons still. I can see that the holiday festivities are still in play in this new version, and that's cool. As well, there are special days, and the different visitors to the town, like Gracie, Crazy Red, Sahara, and the Wallpaper dude. There is still the stock exchange with the turnips.
There is also an insurance guy in this one that will sell you insurance claims. What these do is send you checks for coverage when you get stung by bees, um.. something else, like fall into the pitfuall holes, and also the insurance guy lets you schedule a day for Crazy Red to visit your town every week. That alone is pretty cool. At least you'll know when to expect the guy.
Lots of the same characters in this version. Tom Nook is still the proprieter in town, and the gracie sisters still are at the clothing shop. The turtle is still the mayor, and the cops now protect the gate into your town. The same people work for the post office. The owl still is in charge of the museaum, but there are seperate rooms in the museaum now. One leads to a coffee bar where KK Slider plays on Saturdays. Another room takes you upstairs, and you meet the Owl's little sister, who is in charge of the town telescope. Looking through the telescope, you see lots of stars. You can use the stylus to trace a pattern through the stars and name your own constellations.
The house can be upgraded massively now, with not only an upstairs, and downstairs, which the house comes with, but also with seperate rooms, seems like up to three or four branching to the rear, and sides of the house. I'm expecting it to also allow for another basement addition.
The furniture series' don't seem as large as in the previous game, and that's just fine with me. I always thought of collecting the entire things a pain anyway.
No NES games in this version. I feel like that kind of sucks. Nintendo stated that the NES games on the old version took away from the point of the game. Personally, I think they just didn't have room for them on this version.
Besides the usual things like the shovel, axe, net, and fishing pole, you are now also able to get a slingshot. I'm betting this is to knock flying presents out of the air.
No GBA hookup, which means no island off the coast. This time, the Cap'n is a cab driver who brings you to the town. I'm expecting him to be the means of transportation to other people's towns when playing in a LAN environment, or via WiFi connection.

Sounds awesome so far.
You'll have to let us know if Cap'n still sings his silly little songs when traveling between towns...
