Yeah, preety cool huh? I like the shiny umbreon best.
Edit: By the way, your chances of getting a shiny pokemon increases if you breed a shiny pokemon. Example: You can get a Shiny magikarp if you breed a red Gyrados.

Very good SpAtk and Spd + Psychic/Bite = pwned. A 1.5 Same Type Attack bonus doesn't do very well if the power of the attack is low. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif
I used to like Umbreon, but it's boring.

a) This was only true in Gold/Silver
b) The chances aren't increased by much
And I think shinies were more common on G/S... http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif So says Zubat, Girafarig (Box full, couldn't catch), Kakuna (Accidentally killed), first Cyndaquil egg (Shiny Cyndaquil was AWESOME on GS ;-; ), and I'm sure there were others.
I've seen 1 shiny Pokemon in 500+ hours of Ruby/Firered, and those 4 shiny examples must have been in under 100 hours http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif
Oh FKL, right. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

They were, indeed, more common in Jhoto. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif
Breeding only worked then, as well.

Ouch... I gave up shiny hunting long ago.
Though I too am a huge fan of the shiny umbreon...
But then I think... consider how many pokemon you've run into when playing the entire game.
... now how many of those were shiny?
... Now make that into a ratio...
I think it'll take that many eevee eggs to get your shiny, ToH. D:

Well, I ran into a Shiny Mareep in the Safari Zone, didn't know it was a Shiny till I made a boo-boo.
Let me start at the begining:
In the original (and I'm still pretty sure in the newer) pokemon you found at a lower level would be stronger at level 30 then if you caught it in a wild at level 30, even if it was of the same type and species. So...
I have a level 3 Rattata, raise it to level 15.
I then catch a level 15 Rattata; which one is stronger? Definately the one I've raised the longest.
So for pretty much all my pokemon that I catch, I'm gonna eventually breed them and start them off at level 5 unless I can catch one below 5.
I bred the shiny Mareep, hatched the egg, and released the Mareep I had caught in the Safari Zone.
When I later looked at the Mareep I had hatched, I noticed it was a different color then my old one; it was yellow.
It was in that moment, that I realized my own stupidity. (Hell, I didn't know Shiny Pokemon existed until a few months ago.)
For now on, I make sure I look up the shiny sprite for any pokemon when I don't know what it's shiny 'side' looks like.
