Don't you just love playing a certain game for so long that when you go to play another, you keep forgetting which button does what? http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Well lets hope there is a Block button and not based like on PSO's blocking system. I know for a fact that every PS game except PSO allowed you to set a character to Defend/Block for a whole turn.

I can't remember if characters that blocked were allowed to "hit back" as revenge for attacking the not so defenseless. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Well, older PS games didnt have a block button. They had defense (I remember PSII's shield). Basically, they stood there & didnt attack. It was supposed to be as if they were defending themselves. Didnt have animation for it tho. LOL Anyway, a block button would help, seeing as how there are so many action buttons now. If not, we can still strafe.

The defense option in PSII actually raised you defense, eh?

OdinTyler

No, it said you were defending, as symbolized by a shield. What it did was it showed your char for a split sec, then, it vanished & went to the next char. You see a shield icon instead of a sword one (to show you were defending). I didnt check actual stats to see if they were raised but I doubt they were. Im not picking on the limitations of the game back then. Its just how it was. I guess the RPGer in me had to 'imagine' that your char was defending.

Hm, i seem to remember taking less damage, but i'm getting off-topic so...

If i had to wager i'd say that there won't be a block/guard ability, but i hope for a pleasant surprise.

well pso ep 1 and 2 never had block they had the shield but that only worked if you def was higher than there atk but i realy hope for a def move/button to block with your wep that would increase the battle modes intensity and make it so much more fun personaly like in dinasty warrior's all of the games were great i hope the fighting modes are kind of like that and much much more for what they videos showed there might not be one but we can all hope

Wow. That was a hell of a run on sentence. I can hear the sound of English teachers everywhere, fainting at once. LOL

Yeah but still. I think a block button would make the game too easy. We can already strafe, so I don't think theres any need for something like a block. I say leave the EVP blocking system that was in PSO.

Noooo. We need an improvement from PSO. The strafe idea is new to PS & a good thing to try out. It would be good to have a block button, but, I wont get upset if its not included. I know I need to practice strafing as is.

And how do we know that the blocking will ALWAYS block EVERYTHING? Games that work like that suck. I suggest that they make blocking cause it allows for better combat play and they can make monsters stronger.

Well I would like to see Blocking available. Even if it means that you take less damage, it would still be extreamly useful.

It would depend on the stats, even if you block in like ultimate mode or something, they still might break through.

Or break your Barrier/Shield while at it. Hopefully other things might break just like the Weapons such as Armour. Mayby we'll see HeadGear again like in the original PS series, would love to see what designs they'll come up with. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Youre right. I wonder why that wasnt brought up before. We should see some headgear again (thinks back to older PS games), capes, & other good stuff from such games. It has to be a visual on the char tho. Half the fun is SEEING it. Also, give newmans Nei's favorite footgear: Knife Boots. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah, I was pondering this in some other thread.

Since there seems to be greater freedom of movement, being able to strafe and attack and such, I hope they get rid of the evasion stat.

As for blocking, it has to be in there. If SEGA is truely evolving the PSO series in this installment, it'd be pitiful if they left Shields and Barriers to the passive EVP/DEF-boost that they were restricted to in past PSO games. You should be able to take up a defensive position against gunfire and spells, and melee to a lesser extent. Otherwise your only and best defense would be a good offense, or perhaps running away.

From looking at a few of the videos, there seems to be some action-y juggle moves and skills. Defense and evasion should be able to prevent being floated.
