I kind of noticed something while going through the new screenshots about the nanoblast feature..like who is that hulking beast laying the smackdown to the enemies out there.
The only 3 male beast that we know of is Leo, and he's standing by Ethan, as seen here:
http://www.pso-world.com/images/psu/12-29/nano-122905-05.jpg
Then there's Afort, but seeing as he's a pirate, I doubt he'd be one to fight with the Guardians..
This only leaves one tenacious Beast left, Tonnio! In a way I guessed that basicly the size of your character didn't matter in the Nanoblast..but wow.. thats truly one heck of a contrast..

Going from http://photobucket.com/albums/y33/shadowwolfkano/th_tonnio-2.jpgto http://www.pso-world.com/images/psu/12-29/nano-122905-04.jpg.

It makes sense to me. The whole "Beast" concept is hard enough to take seriously already, but to see some little pipsqueak turning into some kind of "super-saiyan" pipsqueak and "kicking ass"... that would probably get everyone in the party killed as they'd likely be laughing too hard to do anything else.

does that mean you cant keep your hair color when
you go beast.

Thats what I'm guessing...Although there maybe a way to customize your alter-ego, perhaps during character creation..hey, weirder things have happened.

Agreed. Niki & I are part of the Anti-Saiyan/Street Fighter Looking Beasts of Dagora City. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif Not that we're against those chars, just that putting it in PSU gets old REAL quick.

Here's to hoping that they don't decide to give Blanka-looking feral forms the ability to use Hadoken-like Ki blasts. Welcome to the ultimate gaming/anime cliche!

Transformations are just so cool. And I'll admit that Akira Toriyama did something awesome with the whole Super Saiyan thing, but it was awesome in DBZ. That was then. I'm tired of seeing wild, DBZ esque transformations (unless they are hilarious parodies). Hopefully it won't be so over the top in PSU. I'd like PSU to have a slick, smooth style all of it's own.

Don't let us down, Sonic Team!

True. It was bad enough there were thousands of HUmars running around on PSO, Saiyan hairstyle & all. Now, ppl have a chance to mimic a Saiyan or Blanka or Akuma or any number of other anime chars. Ppl miss the point of roleplaying in that you have a chance to make a UNIQUE char. Sure, its funny to see how close you can make a video game/anime char, but, to keep it? Idk. Best left as a mule or test char.

I'm with Niki and Tyler on this completely. Parodies of other characters are fun and sometimes hilaroius, but you gotta draw the line somewhere.

But, since you brought up Role Playing, that brings another issue to mind.. I'm not gonna try to deviate from this topic too much, but do any of you actually RPing in PSU? I might as well start an individual topic for this question.

They probably haven't implemented the part where the nanoblast beasts reflect the original character colors.

True or it could possibly be because they want to keep some of the juicy tibits from getting out. Afterall its hyped up enough as it is, we wouldn't want to be spoiled and bored in the end. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Thats baloney. They should reveal such info so that we know we can customize it from the beginning. SUV is customizable as different weps can be chosen from. I dont see why a Nanoblast form cant be altered as each beast is unique. In offline mode it doesnt really matter as Leo, Tonnio, & possibly Tylor's transformations pertain to the story. Data could be saved there & thus, use a generic change. Online is different & necessitates the need for individuality.

Individuality is not necessarily in direct correlation with physical appearance. Given that beasts seem to be relegated to melee combat, all beasts will more or less play the tank role in party situations. At least with the other races there’s a little more room for flexibility.

If beasts can customize their nanoblast (am I the only one who thinks that term sounds like something one shouldn’t be doing in public?) appearance, that’s great, but all beasts will still be there taking hits and clawing at stuff, with no fundamental differences between one another. If they can’t, well, no loss in my humble opinion, and it’ll all look the same to me regardless.

Contrast that to human characters, of which they can dabble in all of the weapon/tech proficiencies available. You can’t look at one human and know how exactly they’ll be playing, whereas it’s easy to do for beasts and to a lesser extent for newmen as well.

If you really want to be an individual, play a pistol toting or tech casting beast, provided those options are available, and that will make you seem more an individual than having fur dyed a different color.

OK lets see if I can show myself to be more of an individual beast:

1. I'll be blue.
2. I'll wear green clothes.
3. I'll mostly use axes & handguns, MAYBE using claws just because it fits.
4. Techs (if usable by beasts), Im debating which to specialize in (again, if possible).
5. Look pretty much like a Native Motavian.

Id say thats unique, as opposed to other future beasts on PSU. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Time will have to tell http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I must say though, that in my years of PSO and other online games, it’s been a very rare circumstance where the appearance of a character was the first thing memorable about them. As a character becomes more recognizable for their unique play-style, sense of humor or whatever else is defining of them in my mind, their seemingly common appearance eventually becomes theirs, where when I see somebody else with the exact same character look I immediately think, “What a ripoff of xfriendhere!”

Assuming I'm not some kind of a freak, I don't think beast characters need to worry about looking different, and should be more worried about limited play options :/

Thats the thing about RPGs. Basic rules aside, the only limit is your imagination. True, a player's personality characteristics will come out & a playstyle may dictate how that char fleshes out. However, if you let yourself really roleplay (whether you give your char a 'voice' or not), then there are no real limits but fun. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I wonder how small the Cast can be.. it'd be great to see one with a SUV weapon 4 times its own size.

OdinTyler
Jan 13, 2006, 05:26 PM
Given that some of the SUV weps look like theyre 60ft long, Id say theyre already more than 4x your size. They would look even bigger if you got 'Hunewearl small'. That would be something insane, but, Id love to see that.

Another thing to consider for Beast forms being customizable. Let's say you have a party make-up similar to this:

Human
Newman
Cast
Beast
Beast
Beast

Now what if all 3 Beasts(if the same gender) transform for a tough monster or boss? How are you gonna tell them apart if they all look the same? Especially for the Newman using Techs and healing the party.

OdinTyler
Jan 19, 2006, 10:48 AM
Which is why I believe that online, beast form will be customizable. It would be pretty ridiculous to have ppl looking identical, like in the group setting you came up with. There HAS to be a way to customize. I believe it will go based on the colors when you create your char to begin with. Offline is different as the same form was used to save data space. Unoriginal, but, smart. Online NEEDS the variety.

Yummi
Jan 19, 2006, 11:17 AM
I think it will be customizable, maybe go off the color of your characters hair or something.

OdinTyler
Jan 19, 2006, 11:21 AM
Thats what I said. Come to think about it, doesnt Leo wear some red clothing? If so, that would be where the red hair comes into play. However, with Tonnio hes not wearing red but same look. Again, offline uses 1 image to save space. Going by Leo tho, maybe its a combo of your fur color & your clothing that gives the look of your nanoblast. If thats true, my beast will end up turning blue or green. Im glad colors are customizable so I can always fix it. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
