Well, its not really a stone, but its a start to translating the in-game language. These characters are very similar to the ones i saw on the "now loading" screens at digital life and in the various videos we have seen.

I was really hoping PSU would dispense with the "unique" font. I never liked the PSO one. Still, this will come in handy later. Nice work.

They do it so they can put in subliminal messages in various spots without making it blatantly obvious. I think it's neat, personally. Definitely gives the game its own style, and it gives curious individuals like myself something to decipher.

After all, I'm sure there are still plenty of people who don't realize the messages strewn about the various stages in PSO, not to mention the large quantity of "Dark Falz" and "Ragol - Algol" rotating in the 3rd form arena for the fight with Dark Falz.

Its good that you want to have this post to translate the font. I wish this happened for PSO. However, is it possible that some letters are going to be different in Japanese, given that it goes by kanji & other written terms? The words Phantasy Star Universe would be the same, but, is Pete's designation number the same? Im not trying to be a pain in the ass. I just ask because will it be a universal font or just governed by a region's language?

I highly doubt that they would come up with their own unique font for every single kanji character... the way letters look is just a little bit more important for japanese, Our alphabet however is suited to be changed around, since we have alot less letters, and alot less confusion.

I love the unique alphabet, it gives you something interesting to put in pso related artwork. =)

I never did either. Too hard to read unless you stopped and stared at it for a few minutes.

I played PSO so much, I could actually read their archaic font just as easily as normal text. :/ No doubt, the same will happen with PSU.

Hopefully this time around, there will be a downloadable font of PSU's font that we can use for normal or webpage text. Id put it up on my site if at all possible. The letters look less like English letters, yet distinctual from PSO's font.

The PSO font always screwed with my head. It's nice and all, but sometimes, it's really just a huge eyesore.

Actually there is 3 fonts i think:

the beast one:

the newman one (unless it is japanese but it looks a little weird o_O ):

And the human/cast one showed before...

I'm thinking that's japanese. Be'd interesting if it was their language, though

Yah I think those are just variations of one of the japanese alphabets. Funny how the beast type one looks sorta arabic. It would be cool if they had a different language for each of the races, it'd make sense too.

Actually, from what I see, that Newman font might have a bit of Chinese inspiration. The beast language is either Arabic or even Hindi-related. Definitely a more cursive language used there. Fits creatures of the desert perfectly. I like it. I wonder if it will let us type msgs in our native language as well as the native language of our char's race. That would be hot!

The beast is actually english with an arabic/hindi twist. If you look, each letter corresponds with the common english one.

I didnt notice it was written in English. I did say it had the cursiveness of Arabic/Hindi tho. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

That is where I got that from. I knew it was english, but I didn't recognize the origin of the font.

(Post 200! Wow, I didn't realize how quickly the # rises)

The beast font is pseudo-Sanskrit, the Newman font is (likely) simplified Chinese with some twist somewhere.

Anyways, we just need D, J, K, O, Q, W, & Z (The one's in red are just guesses). I don't know if there are different versions, like highercase or lowercase. They all seem to be one case.

And by the looks of it, to make the text harder to read, ST squishes this stuff together, look at Ethan's pants (Also see my sig). I guess it says DUBIC STAR, since his shirt has DS on the back, but CUBIC is a real word. I suppose the C & D are near identical, C just have a cut in it:

Also I think I found the L, on Curtz gun which says "L.R.P.R"

And the rest were found from PSU images. Although, I may have a few slight curves off, or some spaces off on the letters. We won't know for sure until we can play the game. From several images You can tell there's alot of stores with signs of this stuff, but too hard to read.

(BTW, in caves 3, you'll see a sign in pso font, but the image is reversed, so the letters are backwards, oh ST!)
