...Your point is? At the moment, it's only GC PSO with one extra character class. I'd rather get the game in one month with one less character class to play rather than wait until at least June when XBox Live is scheduled to launch. ST would have to add more features than just one more playable character to make me look twice at the XBox version.

that is not the point...the point is some people here a while ago said that it will be nothing more than ver.2...So I am directing to those people...get whichever version you want...its your money...both are the same game...I have no problem with you getting GCN version...none of my business...just posting so those saying Xbox only getting ver.2 port will shut up...

It's a gamecube port with one new character. Yippie.

Well, from early screenshots, that's how it appeared to be. At least ST isn't porting an old version to XBox after seeing this though.
On a side note, anyone else notice that the post message screen is now a lot different?
Chaos, check Site Related, thread "Plans for PSOW" or something like that... it's sticky.

No wonder. I don't think I've even opened that board once in my time here, heh. Oh well, thanks.
This is in fact good news and i would definitly be saying yippee if the XBox version would be coming out at the same time as the US version of the Gamecube, but it looks like it won't,although no date has been given yet.The fact remains that it's not just a port of DC V2,you get an xtra character, you get a keyboard option,on top of being able to use the voice chat as well inside the games. If the version(Gamecube and XBox) would come out at the same time,i would probably pick up the XBox version.

AND, release date of the game as being 2003, January the 16th !!

I don't think the Xbox version is going to have an exclusive class, unless it's going to be some sort of download. I don't think the January release date would give them whole lot of time to work out a new set of characters.

I really don't get why there was ever any doubt. It just seems illogical to me, that Sonic Team would release a version of the game that's not up to date... I mean heck, even the PC version, which is supposed to be a direct port of v2 has stuff added to the quick select... I mean, really. If Sonic Team sees time to add stuff, by golly, they're gonna do it.

Uhh...there is only one new character (thus far). And we know it's either the HUmarl, HUnewm, RAnewm, or RAnewearl. And, heck, Sonic Team's got four months before the game comes out. They may very well add more than one.

Well...back before PSOv1 was released, Sonic Team rode it off by saying that Numans didn't like guns...and that may be true. After all, Rika and Nei used very light claw weapons, and Nei hated carrying a heavy load.
But I supposed a beefed-up Numan could handle those big bazookas that some RAngers carry around.
I'm placing my bets on the new character being a HUmarl, though.

With every online Xbox player having both Broadband and a Hard Disk, ST can make a new char class as a patch anytime.
So it could be available month after the release without problems.

And we care how? So what if I said it was version 2? At the time there was nop info what so ever on Xbox PSO so we were all left to assume. The Xbox fanboys sid it was Ep. 1 and 2; the GC fanboys said it was version 2; and the people like me said it was somewhere in the middle.

I have nothing against Xbox or Xbox PSO. I just hate it when fanboys make up good sh!t about their systems and bad sh!t about the others. You were right Abdur, they did say that they would add one more.

Well.
The Cube version and the XboX version will most certainly NOT be the same.
I've always been a Nintendo fan.......and I also do own an XboX as well as a Cube, but have you noticed how much more powerful an XboX is when it comes to graphic capabilities?
I think that it's safe to say that there will be a difference besides just one new character class and voice chat options. The XboX version SHOULD look better. I'll be shocked if it doesn't.
I'll be checking out both games for sure even if most of the people that I game with will be on Cube.

Anybody hear for definite whether XboX is gonna be server-side save or not?
I hope it will be server-side saving...Blizzard did that with Diablo II, and a lot of other, older online games like Meridian 59 did it, as well...it's a lot harder to get the server to save incorrect information about your character, I've noticed, that it is to get your own hardware to do so. At least, I've only ever heard of one or two people doing it successfully. Someone'll probably correct me on that, though, I'm sure.
Point is, though, it'll probably reduce the number of cheaters, as most are too lazy to bother trying to hack the server to change their info. Well, too lazy, or possessing too little knowledge of how to do it. Or both.
Agent_Reav
09-21-2002, 06:49 PM
Server side saving would make the game perfect... But I don't know if they'll do that. Traditionally, online console games have an offline option if you wanna get a quick fix without goin online. I say they should follow Blizzard's example; If you want to bring your offline character online you go on "Open Battle.net"... Otherwise your char is stored online on Blizzard's servers UNHACKABLE!
LadyKei
09-21-2002, 07:52 PM
Though, and I have no idea how easy this is on a console, but with Diablo II and all, I know a lot of 'trainers' would run in the background, and modify the game's code while it sat in RAM, and when you popped back, hey, lookit that, you were suddenly god. Nothing on the savefile was changed, and in fact actually saved it 'legit', as the only thing that was changed is your game telling itself that that zombie just gave your character 10,000 xp, and when you saved it to the server, you would just have 10,000 more xp than you did before, just as if you had gotten it legit...
Anyway, this is rambling now, but I'm wondering if anyone has any idea about whether that type of hacking would still circumvent the server-side saving? It would still rock to have it, as that fact alone would deter cheaters, and those who do cheat would be hard pressed to do it successfully.
VariantXL
09-21-2002, 08:04 PM
that does open up the possiblity for some resonably talented hacker to hack the servers which characters are stored on and simply wipe them clean.
LadyKei
09-21-2002, 08:17 PM
Erm...isn't there already a way people can do that, in essence? I've heard of things that can crash entire servers, wiping all the chars on them, and such like that, already...maybe just overexaggerated rumours, though.
That, and with the sheer volume of people playign (and paying for) PSO, I'm sure they'd have a regular backup somewhere if they did start server-side saving, and likely some nasty countermeasures againt any hackers.

That won't happen. Microsoft already stated that the gaming servers would be encoded with top-quality military-grade encryption. It would be impossible to hack into the servers without somehow cracking the code, which won't happen. I wouldn't mind server-side saving, but I'd rather have it on my Xbox, just in case a blackout occurs or something unexpected -_-;;;

it would take no time, cause all they have to do is create poly characters and they have the early designs to work from, the actions and moves ( animation) of the characters come from the items found, its not like a fighting game (lets say) where each character would have his or her own set moves, so all they really need to do is generate a kool character class.... but they would need to make 4 to balance it out, there are 4 characters now to each class..... but who knows st is one of the laziest developers out there.

Actually no, you can't do stuff like that with serverside saves. The way online games work where the client really has very little information such as diablo 2 or an MMORPG like everquest, is that the server does EVERYTHING, and the client is really just showing the player whats going on, and offering a few inputs like 'kill' and whatnot.
In diablo 2 you can't just run a trainer and do 10,000 damage, because the server isn't stupid enough to believe that.
In diablo 1, yes you could, but that was because all it did was matchmaking services. Connection between the players and battlenet has nothing to do with it. Realms in d2 everything is handled through battle.net including playing the game.

Here is my two cents about the possibility of extra characters.
The two longest parts of creating new characters would be building the 3D models and then balancing the stats. Skinning wouldn't be too hard and considering all the characters basicaly run, walk, slash, stand, stab, ect, the same way, animation is not an issue. If they have existing models of some of the omitted chars, then forget about the time to model, of course tweaking them can take time too.
Also this was the same question I had back when ST was announcing new classes for the GC. Why just one. There are three classes. Remember that the GC version had annouced two new chars at first(at least that's what I remember).
On a side note I went to school for 3D/2D animation.

just thought of something ..
As Xbox is broadband only, and as you don't pay broadband by the minute (ISDN excepted), it could really make sense for PSO to have server-side saves.
You just have to make it possible to play split-screen multiplayer online, and the Xbox sure has the bandwith needed for that.
Having the Xbox using your Broadband access each time you play is no big deal. Even if you share it with your computer busy downloading files, you won't notice much difference thanks to the low footprint of PSO's network traffic.

Interesting, I'm having a hard time trying to find out what that had to do with anything. Gamecbe has BBA support too.
Danderdag
09-24-2002, 02:54 AM
broadband wont really affect serverside saves, it just means it slows down when modem players are there because you've got to transmit alot of data to the server whenever it saves or loads.

Interesting, I'm having a hard time trying to find out what that had to do with anything. Gamecbe has BBA support too.
With a modem, if you have to be online to be able to save, you hog the home phone line everytime you play, and you pay for it by the minute.
With BBA, wether you're online or not is of little consequence for your Broadband access.(non exclusive use, and low footprint)
So, making Xbox PSO a server-side saved game would only annoy people who cannot get online with their Xbox at all.
Any clearer now ?
Yes. I was confused about the whole pay by the minute thing, but then I realized you're from France. In America internet access is a flat rate. When you choose the quit game option it saves your game.
Danderdag
09-24-2002, 06:37 AM
yeah in the US all ISPs are flat rate, broadband or modem alike. Pay by the minute went out of style with AOL version 2.0 I believe.
Yeah internet options are far less appealing in other parts of the world.
