Good quality and really long, with the theme-song at the beginning. Good to hear the sound-effects!

The rest of the trailer introduces the world and characters, in what seems to be updated versions of the TGS trailers.

Yeah I think it's the trailers shown in one of the SonicTeam's Webcam videos. But with a good quality... That's a nice find http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

This is a video we saw in one of those low quality streaming videos from December. Still, it is really nice to see this in a high-quality format.

Thanks for sharing the find Nash. I'll work on a front page news story later. Hopefully EspioKaos can provide translations for some of the more interesting sections.

Really like the fact the sound for the SUV Weapon is the same as when your Mag filled it's bar in PSO http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Wow! That video was great. Im dling it as we speak. There was a constant debate about the intro song & I finally was able to really listen to it. The most debated word is in fact 'tomorrow' or as its sung 'to-mor-row'. Just wanted to clear that up. Also, the sound effects were finally audible & they added much more video than Ive seen before. A thing I definitely noticed was it wasnt just 1 planet (Parum) being invaded. Basically, the whole fleet was destroyed in the invasion. Thats just nuts. Not just for rescuing your sister, but, you have more than enough reason to defeat the evil across all of Graal.

I just heard about it at GF, it's about 11 minutes long, so..expect the loads to take a while...*sigh*

OdinTyler
Feb 9, 2006, 06:07 PM
The loading was actually not that bad for me. I managed to watch a few min before it would load for another 30 sec or so. Sometimes it would be loading while playing so that helped. Overall, smoother than Im used to. I must agree that the quality of the video is the best Ive seen yet for any PSU videos. The added sound is a bonus. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

A big, fat http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif for the fact that they used the vocal, and not the orchastrated, theme song for the first part of the video. It sounded so out of place...other than that, the video was pretty awesome. A fascinating look into the world of PSU. A few things I liked in particular:

The kind of metallic reverb they added to that female Cast with pink hair was cool. I thought it was a pretty nice effect.

I also liked the naontrace system in action. No big fancy explosions of light or anything, just a neat little sound effect, and boom, your weapon. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

The weapon design, just in general. Though we've seem mostly what appear to be non-rare items, I'm digging the way the weapons look. Even the basic saber has some character.

It was really good, I was hoping to see some HQ character customization, but meh, I need to get more RAM if I want my comp to run it like I've seen it the video... 1Gb will be enough right? (with a Athlon AMD 64 bit processor and an ATI 256 MB video card)
I only have 512 MB ram now and FFXI "lags" sometimes near the AH and with some weather effects

That was flipping awesome. Looks like they're going to include a fair deal of humorous moments in the offline game-- even if I had no idea what they were saying, the delivery alone on Ethan and Hyuga pulling the simultaneous speech thing was fantastic. And you can tell that Ethan starts out a n00b; witness his reaction to getting his leg healed. XD I might just have to play through the offline mode before I even look at the online stuff.

Ethan: I met this Newman girl. She asked me out.
Hyuga: Me too. Her name was---

Both: Karen. (shocked looks on their faces) What? But, she asked ME out! (both glare at Karen)

Im obviously joking here. It would be hilarious if it werent too far from the truth!

Sounds awesome dude, your computers great but i'd ramp it up to definatly 1 gig for this game. Funny thing is, your processor rocks, I have a AMD Athlon 64 3500 or somthing. Too bad theres not a damn program out there that even utalizes 64 bit technology yet. Where i work, their still striving to reformat half of the programs just to run nicely on a 64. It's not that they can't run, it's just that they don't utalize it. Definatly helps tho, nothing bigger (in terms of computer) can ever hurt.

(and is that the only version of the video there is? that mouse going across the screen is annoying)

EspioKaos

I can try, but... it's going to take a while.

A few random things I've noticed in the video while looking for more samples of the Parum font: In the first section introducing Parum, right after that PPT flies past the screen, the yellow lettering advertises Burger King. Also, the lettering on Renvolt's chest reads "Endrum Organization," though the official site calls the Endrum group the "Endrum Collective."

Do nt forget a dedicated sound card. They take the work load off the CPU you know. Creative Xi-Fi's are pretty good.

Am I the only one to think the soundtrack on the Newman planet is just awesome?

A translation... would require quite some time. I'd guess more or less 2 hours.

My fear is that this video, as awesome as it looks, spoils pretty much the whole game.

I'm downloading it now and I can break it up into sections (unless someone else would rather do it.) I'll be using the .wmv file.

This will take longer than I thought since I am staying at my fiancees place this weekend and she doesn't have any descent video editting software, so I'm downloading Adobe Premiere since I personally don't care for Windows Movie Maker and Virtual Dub doesn't support .mov or .wmv files.

Something you may not want to notice...
If anyone has the ability to screencap, you could pause it and take a look. But around 4:14 or 4:18 there is a direct profile of Renvolt (talking to ethan) but look at his chest.

(or dont)
But that thing which is pointy armor from the front looks like something else from the side. It looks like a moob. It's in the right place too. I mean...you can't really miss it. I hope this isn't a common design flaw for casts, gee, he looks kind of silly from the edge without his mega-mag or whatever to hide it.

Just watch the video for proof, (I can't do screencaps) Hopefully customization options will take care of this for all the non-renvolts out there.

Nice... very nice... PSU is going to be a success although my mind truns towards mind twisting questions. Dost thou all thinketh, in thy hearts and logic, that the characters will get exceedingly complicated to customize in sens of raising their skills towards the right group (hunter, ranger, force). Me thinks it rather complex.

Tystys: Idk, are you a noob? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif You two being the same person would explain alot. LOL As for whats being written in the videos...hmmm been awhile since Ive been able to tell Katakana from Hirigana & those 2 from Kanji. I think usage varies based on what its being used for. Thats just a rule for the language itself. Im sure Espio could clear that up as Ive forgotten temporarily. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Azure: Whats a moob?

1. I'd post a link on the front page and here. The version on Gametrailers is about 2/3 of the size of this one. I'm just wondering if anyone would be interested in seeing it.
3. Certain JP stores were auctioning off their February 16 materials, so I picked up a set. I planned on keeping them for my personal collection.

As for the 5th Anniversary Content, the winner will be picked once the Fan Artist Voting concludes. Part of the prize for winning that is additional entries into the raffle.

2. Uh huh, personal stash huh? I understand.

3. But, both contests ended already. Id think the voting wouldve been done & the raffle picked (including those who won those bonus boxes). Is the winner chosen by most red boxes submitted or just a random raffle pick?

1. I meant larger in terms of resolution, not length. It is a pity the Battle Of and Network Of videos were not included.

3. The voting period for the fan artist contest is not over yet. The winner in the raffle will be picked at random. The more red boxes you have, the better your chances are of winning.

Ok, here is a version of the entire movie that's only 21MB. The screen size is smaller but I tried to at least retain the clarity and for those on dialup having difficulty getting the larger file, it is at least an option. You will need the Divx player to watch it which you can get for free HERE (http://www.divx.com/).

Are you talking about this?

You can find the High-Quality AVI here:
http://www.pso-world.com/downloads/psu/trailers/WorldOfCharacterOf.avi

Please keep in mind that this file is 175 MB, so you may want to use a downloading program with a resume function in case Gamespy's server decides to die in the middle of the transfer. Also, you'll need to have XVid or DivX installed to be able to watch the file.

It's a work-in-progress for me. It's going to take me a while to finish, I'm sure, as I do much better with translating text as opposed to speech.

I dunno, man. I really don't think so. I hate to shut you down on this, because it's a really interesting observation and it'd make for a COOL storyline plot-twist, but there are quite a few extremely humanoid cast options. In one of the dev webcam vids, a little bit of the character customization for the casts is shown and there are a lot of possible Dorothy-esque (Big-O reference.. I don't care what anyone says, I LOVED that show) designs. In otherwords, very humanoid.

But, then again.. it is possible that he could be more then just mechanical. Hmm.. I wonder.

Parts of this are really frustrating. There wouldn't happen to be anyone here who can understand spoken Japanese better? Certain sections are really giving me some trouble.

Here's my translation of the first section of the trailer. There are some blanks, however, where I can't understand what's being said.

THE WORLD OF PHANTAY STAR UNIVERSE

NARRATOR: Phantasy Star Universe takes place among the three planets of the Graal System. Here, four races coexist, forming their own unique cultures.

CAPTION: Parum, the First Planet

NARRATOR: Parum serves as the political and economic center of the Graal System.

The central city, Hortess City, is lined with skyscrapers and is bustling with various types of transportation.

Originally a natural paradise, Parum’s land was completely ravaged by the war that spanned over 500 years. Now, the majority of what remains is artificially-created.

CAPTION: Neudaiz, the Second Planet

NARRATOR: Neudaiz is a planet of water and greenery. Enormous amounts of vegetation have flourished here as a result of the planet remaining mostly untouched by the hands of people.

This is where the main temple and headquarters of Graalism, the largest religion of the Graal System, is located. Graalism is designated as the official religion of Neudaiz.

CAPTION: Moatoob, the Third Planet

NARRATOR: Moatoob is a planet of wilderness that was transformed into a vast desert. Despite the harsh environment, this planet is rich in resources which results in an almost endless flow of people coming here with dreams of quickly becoming rich.

The Rogues, a group of hoodlums and thieves considered to be the “other side of society,” have set up an extremely large operation across the planet.

CAPTION: Guardians Colony

NARRATOR: The Guardians Colony is an extremely large colony which is independent of the governments of each of the planets. This is where the Guardians uphold the peace of the public across the Graal System.

Peace had reigned across Graal for the last 100 years, however panic quickly spread with the sudden arrival of a mysterious space life form known as SEED.

What does destiny hold for the Graal System…?

THE CHARACTERS OF PHANTASY STAR UNIVERSE

NARRATOR: You will meet a variety of characters brimming with personality in Phantasy Star Universe.

ETHAN: I’m Ethan Waber!

CAPTION: Ethan Waber (CV: Tomokazu Seki)

NARRATOR: The hero of our story is 17-year-old Ethan Waber. He enlisted with the Guardians at the time of the invasion by SEED. He is determined to fight for the future of Graal.

DRIVER: Are you OK!?

ETHAN: Ow… my leg!!

MIREI: I’m so sorry. Are you alright?

ETHAN: Does it look like I’m alright!?

MIREI: Your leg is hurt.

MIREI: How is that?

ETHAN: Huh? … Oh! It doesn’t hurt!

KAREN: I will be very strict with the training the two of you will go through.

CAPTION: Karen Erra (CV: Rie Tanaka)

NARRATOR: Karen Erra is Ethan’s training instructor. Though she is the same age as Ethan, she already has three years of experience as a Guardian.

KAREN: I am Karen Erra. I will be you guys’ training partner.

ETHAN & HYUGA: Did she just say… “you guys?” You’re going to be my partner!?

KAREN: Under normal circumstances, a two-person team is standard procedure. However, with SEED involved, that is insufficient. I just want you to understand this. By the way, a short while ago I was observing your conduct… Hyuga Ryght. Dealing with personal business while on-duty will earn you a demerit. Watch yourself.

HYUGA: Y-yes, ma’am.

ETHAN: Heh heh heh heh heh!

KAREN: As for you, Ethan Waber…

ETHAN: Y-yes?

KAREN: I observed you around the Colony. You seem awfully defenseless. However, I think it’s good to believe in a person because it is easy to be deceived by that kind of façade.

NARRATOR: There are also a number of other unique members of the Guardians.

CAPTION: Hyuga Ryght (CV: Akira Ishida)

HYUGA: Our meeting like this was guided by the Planetary Spirit.

CAPTION: Leogini Santosa Berafort (CV: Rikiya Koyama)

LEOGINI: You need brains over brawn when you’re out on your own.

As a completely uneducated speaker of Japanese (that is to say, as one who does not comprehend the language at all), I'd have to say so. Whatever EspioKaos got wrong would seem to be a nuance at worst. Nothing seems glaringly nonsensical about the translated text, I mean.

I think the problem is that there's no sense of a tone on the internet. So, a basic statement (ends in a period) has just the tone of a serious statement.

At least, that's what I think. I also tend to think that sarcasm has a certain tone to it, so don't mind my insanity.

LEOGINI: You need brains over brawn when you’re out on your own.

(I worked 3 hours on this message, which was originally a lot longer - upon further inspection though, it appears that I was mistaken about the meaning of some of the sentences. There are only "a few" instances where I feel the need to speak up)
These would be instances where I'd have to say "wait a sec".

Otherwise, you're doing a much better job than I would ever do.

TYLOR: You Guardians really have quite a lot of spirit.

Tylor is actually surprised that there exist one of them Guardians with some pale excuse of a spine to defy him. In your sentence, he sounds condescending (which is very good) but the whole "this youngster is different from the lot" thing disappears.
(My attempt)
Tylor: It seems a few of them Guardians have some backbone after all...

LIINA: You mean you wouldn't be sad even if one of your friends were to die!?
LOU: There is no reason for me to express emotions such as that.

We're not talking about ifs here. Lou's partner died a horrible death moments before. Also, Lou states that emotions are useless.
(my attempt)
Liina: One of your friends just died! Aren't you even sad?
Lou: I haven't been implemented these useless emotions. *or maybe : this useless emotion.

NARRATOR: Moatoob is a planet of wilderness that was transformed into a vast desert. (...)

This might go on my account for my lack of superior skills.
The wilderness was not purposedly transformed into a desert. It turned into a desert through natural climatic conditions. When I read "that was transformed into a vast desert" I imagine Beasts and Casts happily deracinating the greenery so that they can get some decent desert.
(My attempt)
Moatoob is a planet of wilderness that slowly turns into a (vast) desert.

NARRATOR: The hero of our story is 17-year-old Ethan Waber. He enlisted with the Guardians at the time of the invasion by SEED. He is determined to fight for the future of Graal.

The way I see it, he was accepted into Guardians only because he did so well when the Seed first attacked. Also, he is not "determined" to fight for the future - he won't be given the choice.
(My attempt)
Narrator: The hero of our story is 17-year-old Ethan Waber. He was accepted into Guardians after proving himself during the first SEED invasion. He will take part to the war in which the Future of Graal is at stake. *god, that sentence sucks... -_-

KAREN: Under normal circumstances, a two-person team is standard procedure. However, with SEED involved, that is insufficient. (...)

Karen clearly says that they are short on hands and cannot afford to give each trainee a partner, because operations against SEED mobilize their force.
(My attempt)
Karen (...) However, because of all our operations against SEED, we are short on hands right now.

KAREN: I observed you around the Colony. You seem awfully defenseless. However, I think it’s good to believe in a person because it is easy to be deceived by that kind of façade.

Karen: (...) It's good to believe in others, but you are so easy to deceive (/you are so gullible) that it bodes ill for future operations.

LEOGINI: You need brains over brawn when you’re out on your own.

While stunning, this alexandrin just means the contrary of what Leogini says.
(My attempt)
Leogini: Well, my body kinda reacts faster than my brain, you know.

Some of these critics are nitpicking, obviously, but some do make a point, or so I believe.

Tylor: It seems a few of them Guardians have some backbone after all...
That was one that originally gave me some trouble. At the time, I didn't understand the meaning of "hone no aru yatsu" outside of its literal translation, "one with bones," which made no sense in the context. I then saw in my kanji dictionary that "hone" could also mean "backbone" or "spirit."

Ah, you're right. I was thinking back to my original translation before I'd seen the script written down. I thought Liina was presenting Lou with a conditional scenario to see if there's anything that would make her show emotion.
I wonder who was killed...?

This might go on my account for my lack of superior skills.
The wilderness was not purposedly transformed into a desert. It turned into a desert through natural climatic conditions. When I read "that was transformed into a vast desert" I imagine Beasts and Casts happily deracinating the greenery so that they can get some decent desert.
(My attempt)
Moatoob is a planet of wilderness that slowly turns into a (vast) desert.
XD @ thought of beasts and casts happily transforming Moatoob into a desert XD
Your translation makes it sound more like the natural occurance it was than mine does. Also, if I recall correctly from some other translations that I've done, Moatoob transformed into a desert over time during the 500 Year War. The moon that used to orbit the planet was destroyed throwing off gravitational balance between the two. Eventually, the oceans began to ebb and dry up and slowly the land changed into desert.

Heh heh. I think I was trying to not make it sound so cheesy. XD

This is another that I had to kind of guess at. Your translation makes more sense, I think.

Well Saffran could cut Espio a lil slack. He does the translations on his own time & for the most part, theyre pretty good. Being a non-Japanese native, I think hes doing alright. Wish I could do that...

Well Saffran could cut Espio a lil slack.

I already do, or I would have translated the whole thing alone.

I am a professional translator myself and everything I do outside of German DVDs is also on my spare time, so it's not really an argument here.

Believe me, I am well aware that he does a good job at it - I have formed a few translators myself. I just have this weird nitpicky trait... I need to work on this.

Very nice work Saffran and EspioKaos.

On the whole nitpicking thing, I think Saffran should continue that sort of trait. At first it may seem like a harsh overview of someone's work but really if the other person is willing to listen, like Espio here, they can make a much cleaner and more professional translation http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gifb.

I love these translations http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif. They give some insight on what the characters are like. Not surprising though, seems like Ethan is your average happy-go-lucky RPG main character, while Karen seems to be the tough-as-nails female lead. I hope they don't turn out to be such stereotypes, but I wouldn't be suprised if they did.

I've finished my translation of the trailer. I'll post beginning from where I left off. Note, of course, that I have taken some liberties with this translation. Mostly just to make it where some lines don't sound so corny when directly translated from Japanese.

CAPTION: Lou (CV: Ayako Kawasumi)

LOU: The possibility of a safe return after going to get help is less than 12%.

CAPTION: Tonnio Rhima (CV: Romi Paku)

TONNIO: I’m not gonna leave Liina behind. Let’s go!

CAPTION: Maya Shidow (CV: Rie Saitoh)

MAYA: So for the time being, I’ll be receiving training as a Guardian, too.

CAPTION: Ohbel Dallgun (CV: Juurouta Kosugi)

DALLGUN: I can’t come up with a reason to approve a move to such a dangerous place.

CAPTION: Lucaim Nav (CV: Ichiro Nagai)

LUCAIM: You shouldn’t judge your opponent based on appearance.

NARRATOR: Ethan and Karen will continue to develop as characters while fighting alongside and dealing with hardships along with allies such as these.

RENVOLT: If you get in my way next time, there will be no survivors.

CAPTION: Renvolt Magashi (CV: Norio Wakamoto)

NARRATOR: The Guardians have come to oppose Renvolt Magashi of the A.M.F.’s special-ops group Endrum Collective. He is a dangerous man who will do anything necessary to carry out his orders.

ETHAN: We gave it our all in that fight! But, the pirates’ attack was so much more tremendous.

RENVOLT: I don’t want to hear your excuses. We kept quiet, even when the research materials were stolen.

KAREN: That was our mistake. There was no reason for the cargo to have been stolen. It was my mistake to be so trusting of that pirate. However, the Guardians still intend on cooperating with the A.M.F. as much as possible.

RENVOLT: Hmph. How amusing! Taking on trash like the Guardians would only serve to hold the A.M.F. back!

TYLOR: We meet once again as opponents. I see you’ve become stronger.

CAPTION: Alfort Tylor (CV: Toshihiko Seki)

NARRATOR: Captain of the pirate ship Landeel, Alfort Tylor is recognized as a superior space pirate among each of the powers of the Rouges. He is also a rival of Ethan’s.

TYLOR: I am Alfort Tylor, captain of the Landeel.

ETHAN: I’m Ethan Waber of the Guardians.

TYLOR: Do you think you can defeat me? It’s a good thing that I value life so much.

ETHAN: Show me what you’ve got, then!

MIREI: I offer my prayers to the spirit of the earth to give its protection to everyone!

CAPTION: Mirei Mikuna (CV: Fumiko Orikasa)

NARRATOR: There are many followers of Graalism throughout the Graal System. Mirei Mikuna, as the divine maiden of phantasmal vision, is the symbol of the religion. She uplifts the hearts of the people with her charismatic nature and beautiful looks.

MIREI: This… What is this… !!

ETHAN: What the!?

LUMIA: Aaaah!!

MIREI: Everyone! We must get out of here quickly!

NARRATOR: In addition, there are many other characters who add even more to the story, such as the scientists who have grasped the key to the opposition of SEED as well as members of the A.M.F. who possess incredible military power.

CAPTION: Dr. Dorson (CV: Yoshitada Ohtsuka)

Dr. DORSON: What’s going on…!?

CAPTION: Dr. Kanal Tomrain (CV: Takeshi Aono)

Dr. TOMRAIN: I am researching the relationship between A-photons and SEED.

CAPTION: Dohgi Mikuna (CV: Ryuushi Sugou)

DOHGI: Could you have not asked me about this matter?

CAPTION: Izuma Rutsu (CV: Shou Hayami)

RUTSU: After everything, this is what’s become of it?

CAPTION: Fullyen Curtz (CV: Shunsuke Sakuya)

CURTZ: There is no reason for me to help your people.

CAPTION: Liina Sukaya (CV: Ryoko Nagata)

LIINA: Why would you leave behind your own place?

CAPTION: 3 Vol Brothers (CV: Keiji Himeno, Kenta Miyake, Hideki Tanaka)

HIRU: We’re the Three Vol Brothers!

CAPTION: Lumia Waber (CV: Ayako Kawasumi)

LUMIA: Divine Maiden!! Yay!!

NARRATOR: An encounter with destiny…
A confrontation with fate…
Writhing conspiracies and entangling mysteries…

I have corrected stuffs around... some because there were errors, some because it was a bit much text on screen.

http://rapidshare.de/files/14119165/t_psu.ssa.html

I cannot bring that to play in WMP, although it should implement it automatically. This is weird.
Also, some sentences are messed when I view them through Subtitle Workshop - the software doesn't use the settings I want him to, and I don't understand why.

The 175 MB AVI or the MOV?

Also, the problem is more the charset encoding, since my PC has a japanese OS. My "default" is probably different from yours http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

You should be able to change it yourself though. Either open it with SSA or with Notepad if you know what you're doing.

The AVI doesn't play. (It seems the dl stopped too soon, I had to dl it agin twice...)

Here:
http://rapidshare.de/files/14185537/WorldOfCharacterOf.ssa.html

I changed everything to Arial, it should be OK.

For those who have no idea how a .ssa file works, you can use this. Xvid required.

Well, I COULD have given an explanation about it since it saves, like, half an hour of dl.

Just dl the .ssa file and put it in the same directory as the .avi, and name both files accordingly. (psutrailer.avi and psutrailer.ssa or so) WMP should automatically load both. Actually, just avbout any videoplayer loads both automatically.
