I'm semi-unemployed!

I start my new job tomorrow. It's as a cook in a big chain of restaurents in the city. It's only a winnipeg thing. But I've never been a cook before, and I swear, this place is super disorganized.

The lady I was supposed to be meeting for my orientation last tuesday wasn't THERE when I got there, so a random worker showed me around the back of the store a tiny bit. I got no uniform, though they took my size for one. The girl told me I'd get a call from the manager a few days before I was supposed to start. The whole thing took 10 minutes.

Fast forward to today, saturday. No word from them. I call, ask what's up. It's been almost four days. She says "You start tomorrow at 8." All I could think was "Wtf? What if I hadn't called? When were they going to tell me to come in?"

Anyway, I've never felt so unprepared for a job in my life, but I'm sure it'll be fine. It's only part-time. I hope I can get more hours, I never really wanted to try balancing two part time jobs.

Maybe this should have gone in rants or offtopic..? I don't know. I only put it in here because generally the only people I care to read about it hang out here mostly.

Well, "half" a job is better than no job at all, definitely, and you could still look around for other things while you're at the job you have, still gives a bit of cash flow while leaving you open to other things.

And yeah, I remember hearing about the lack of the proper person to show you around before, that sounded really weird and disorganized, but this other stuff's kinda out there.

In any case, you'll do well, I'm sure. And if it doesn't work out, I'm willing to bet about now that it's their fault, not yours ;P

Sounds like you are in rough time at first, since you need to get use to everything and how things work.
