View Full Version : Something I'd Like To Say About The Rare Item Distribution S
LIEK OMFG RARES R HARDUR TO FINED!!!!!!!111111
Okay, seriously, I love this new system. I might have said in the past that I would like for Sonic Team make rare items a little easier to find, which pissed some people off. However, Sonic Team have now made items much, much harder to find. If you want a Red Handgun, you've got to kill a Pal Rappy for it. Sounds like a bitch eh?
This is why I like it: items(mainly weapons) are now evenly balanced.
Percentages on weapons don't mean much if they're not over 50, when you find a grinder, it's like OMFG YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!@@@@@@(to me anyways). ATP and ATA mean everything. Flowen's Sword, DB Saber, Visk, these so called "rare" items were common findings on the Dreamcast. Sometimes so common they got annoying to find. These weapons are now effective in Ultimate mode. I just kicked Vol Opt's ass in ultimate mode with a Gae Bolg and a Demon's Vulcan with 45% on hit. Sounds like it's too easy huh? It was, kinda, but I'm really glad that the weapons I found in Very Hard mode are now actually usable in Ultimate.
mmkay, I'm kinda tired now. Done.

Are rare monsters stingy, such as hildeblue dropping meseta? =>.>=
More stingy!
Well, rare enemies are supposedly more common.

The rare items are a bit dull to simply be honest. Sega packed the game with ss class weapons we haven't even seen. The question is this, why create so many awsome weapons that you can not access unless you cheat? It's absolutley rediculous. *Covers head from frontal assult...

All this will do to me is give me greater satisfaction when I find a Dragon Slayer.

But the question is why limit one to a db saber when you can have a lavis cannon? I mean, it's not easy programmings or creating weapons. Sega worked hard at this, only leaving players with no other option but to cheat in order to have access to them. I've been playing video games since atari, I know what makes for a great game. Phantasy Star (the original) that came out for the master system years back, was perhaps the best rpg I've ever played and I've played a lot! A lot of you may not have ever heard of or had the pleasure of playing Phantasy Star (the original). The laconium weapons were hard, very hard to find, but possible and thus made playing the game worth while. Many weapons that should be obtained by beating some great mission or defeating a super hard boss, can only be obtained through hacks. Most of the v1 rares have NEVER been found legit (at least to my knowledge). Sega left a doorway to hackers by being stingy little hobbits. By making every single weapon obtainable by hard work and not blind luck, will drive the hackers out of business!

Making all the rares have a decent chance of dropping though would make more players become bored and leave though. Most people kept playing the original version for so long just to find that elusive section ID-specific rare but what would happen if there was an exact way to find all the elite weapons? People would do that but would become bored simply because there wouldn't be as much of a point to continously running through each stage. Even leveling would become tedious without the thrill of possibly finding a rare from some random enemy.
Online RPGs are meant to be played for months, possibly even years. Console RPGs are rarely played for even a month continously because once you beat it, get all characters to max level, do all sidequests, etc., what's the point of continuing?

THAT IS TOTALY UNTRUE! Even with the original Phantasy Star, I played and beat it years after I first bought it simply because of the design of the game. Do you know how many members of clans hated PSO. HATED IT, because they said they just got bored. I defended the PSO name till the end, but I myself must be realistic. Yes, you need rare weapons that are super rare to find, but that should not limit the amount of ss rares to find. Or better yet, make the more basic weapons ss rares and make new and better rares to be harder to find. Listen to the logic, THESE WEAPONS COULD NOT BE FOUND UNLESS HACKED! You can play for years and be so tired of a game that by the time you find that one rare, it wouldn't matter. The gaming experience should be progressive but fun. That's what I hated about early games like Cloud Master, I couldn't ever get past level 3...

Very True Blazing... There are so many great items in PSO but u can't get any of em :/ Hell, SEGA left some of them banned the whole time! What's the point of creating a weapon only to ban it from day one?!

I don't know what Sega was thinking. This is a great game that just killed the public by holdng back on the weapons. Many new players saw the potential of PSO, but got bored from the lack of weapons. Once they discovered that there were more weapons, just not possible to find ligitly, they resorted to hacking, in so much, they made it away of life... So many POWERFUL weapons that they just keep locked away in a box. Sega was asking for it when they did that. They should have left it without any rare weapons to find, and then everybody would have grown tired of the game and it wouldn't have been worth the hack. In reality, there are great weapons. Great weapons that are almost like a tease...

I coulda sworn that they banned certain weapons to make them exclusive for the Gamecube version or something, because they wanted the dreamcast and gamecube to be able to play together online. But, this was before all the cheating started long ago. (I'm not sure though)

Yeh just popping in to say you're putting value on the weapons, when its the gameplay this value creates that matters.
Remember the weapon itself is nothing, its rarity is what makes the game.
People didn't start hacking because they felt ripped off, its like feeling ripped off because you don't find diamonds in the street. The hacked 'cos they wanted, they wanted 'cos they loved.
When people began getting things players couldn't get honeslty, people began feeling ripped. Before this feeling, PSO was amazing.
The rare system WAS unbalanced. But not because everyone wasn't able to find everything. Its problem was most people couldn't find ANYTHING between very common and very rare, a curve thing. Having MANY weapons literally impossible to find is exactly the idea in a game played by hundreds of thousands online.

Aside from the fact that cheating kind of defeats the purpose of playing the game in general to me...it seems like the rare weapons are supposed to be just that. Think of how it would be if everyone didn't know every single weapon out there, and nobody cheated. Since the Version 2 weapons are more useful on their own and all decent + ATP if combined with level...I just think that part of the big new thing in PSO is to see someone online with some kind of really really cool unique looking weapon and then showing them your own Elysion/Special Mag/whatever. The system works well, but only for dedicated players, not cheaters.

all i have to say is that st really screwed up by banning weapons/items for unexplained reasons. i know that some rares were meant to be awards for completing certain downloadable quest, but that fell thru (mainly in the US) for the lack of downloadable quests!! so of course ppl are gon look for a way to get them. i just hope that sonic team doesnt make the same mistake twice

Just imagine how PSO would be if there were no cheaters to make hacked weapons and stuff.PSO would be much more funner.Even though it is hard to find wepons it kinda motivates you to look more and to fine dat wepon at last. Then when u find it you will feel so glad dat u found it and you will value it more.Just rememebr that there is alwayz the possibility of trading thanx to the new trading system that Sonic Team created.

Damn yeah Raven the new Dragonslayer=Super Sexy! I wonder what other weapons got improved graphics.
The orginal rare system was F'ed up bigtime.
There called RARES for a reason, but what good is a rare if it's a worthless pile of polygon.
Nothing quite like finding a shiny new Yasminkov 2000 thats worthless thanks to the gimped out percents system. A 45% red gun/imperial pick is waaaaaaaay easier to find then a rare item. Since rare items are so rare they are probably going to have cruddy percents. What good is a rare weapon with 100+ atp if those +35%~45% on the common rares equate to +400~500 atp?
The few people that do get lucky, finding a rare with awesome percents might not of really earned it. They just got lucky, which creates imbalance for those who might of put in 1000 hours, finds 3 super rares, but all have junk percents. Versus the 300 hours guy who gets lucky with a weapon that doesn't give him a small advantage, but a HUGE advantage with 45%~55% and that sizeable +100atp bonus, which is futher enhanced by the +percentage bonus.
Don't even get me started on the FO rares. Jokes are supposed to make me laugh. Thats doesn't always aply to 95% of the FO weapons, which are jokes...but not at all funny when you look at there stats. It's funny when your kicking butt with a pan, but sucky when the ATA is too low to even watch you deal 0 damage.
I say percents are too high, lower them.
Or the other option are too make rares more frequent. No point in having super rares so rare that you almost never find them, and if you do they wind up being inferior to your common rares.
Regardless people want to see these rares. I do think it's cool that you could earn them in quests and what not. What I think the percents system is way to high and create imbalance.
I'll just have to wait and play EP1&2 before I can give a rant on the matter. But from what WWWWW.... said if medium rares are really hard, then people, might become Irate at not finding rares in general.

I don't really care about the weapon, as long as it does good damage.

People won't like this game. I can guarantee it. I've already heard people bitching about the fees, and how they're getting majorly ripped off. Bullshit.
To anybody that's expecting a game that's ten times(exaggerating) better than the originals, save your money, don't buy the GameCube version. You will be disappointed.

I'm not really worried about it being 10 times better, I just need to get back to it ^_^ Even if they didn't add the new elements I'd be happy....

speaking of rares, what about the c-sorcerer's cane, has any one found one in psogc, and if so is it more useful than in v2??

*skips through a bunch of posts*
Main reason why I believe Sega didn't release some weapons is because they planned on making these available via upcoming quests. Since cheaters got their hands on the stuff before the quests were even put on paper, Sega said "fuck it" and never created the quests in the first place. What's the use of creating a quest that allows you to find the Lavis Cannon if people are already distributing hacks of it all over the place?
Lots of people claim the rare items are too hard to find. That's an illusion. We got so used to see people walking by with Gae Bolgs, Duranrals, etc. that we got to believe they should be easy to find. And then we'd get frustrated from looking for it. Remember that not all the weapons people carried then were legit. In fact, I bet a good deal of them were 0/60/60/60 types of weapons. Because hacks existed, it threw the trade system off-balance. You can't even trade off a DB saber, even if it has great percentages. Ironic, since I believe it is the most useful and most powerful saber-type weapon in the game.
