View Full Version : Rare Monsters?

Ok, I was going over the info about PSU, and I was wondering if this may be a rare form of De Ragan:

http://www.pso-world.com/images/psu/monsters/tUnknown-1.jpg

It's just a thought, but if so that would be kind of disappointing. I mean I would love to see rare monsters, but this is really just a rare variant (same as PSO does).

However, imagine this:

You walk out into an open field and quickly dispatch whatever monsters are there, when this thing flies in, totally unexpected. His appearence would be random, and would only be found on a particular planet.

Now that would be awesome. A truely rare monster that isn't a "pallet swap" of an ordinary one.
Oh well, time will tell http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Idk seeing as they're both bosses. Perhaps they're just 2 different bosses in 2 different places. The regular one (you can call it Dragon...De Ragan is Japanese enunciation). I figured that out while playing the demo. Anyway, for all we know, the dragon you show is in a different place, while the red one is definitely on Parum.

I always thought the green Dragon had two heads, or are there? My eyesight is really poor just lately o.0

I just hope we have Pal, AL and Love rappys in the game, Though we might have some seasonal monsters as well like the Halloween Rappy (even though they creeped me out.)

Well, personally I don't want to see any comebacks, be it weapons or monsters.

I think we need all new in this game, which calls for out with the old. Now, perhaps they include a weapon/item that is a tribute to PSO ep 1 & 2, and I think that would be a good idea.

Actually, De Ragan is it's name. (I'm not sure if that's how it will be spelled in the English version of course, because we all know how SonicTeam enjoys giving us weird spellings for some names.) Japanese pronunciation of "dragon" would actually be "doragon," not "diragan."

Well, I know that's what its been called so far. It WILL be called Dragon in our version tho. That's a given. Besides...De Ragan? If you read it just right, it sounds like Dragon so why not call it that anyway?

I'm kinda in favor for spiced up boss names. Just plain 'Dragon' sounds generic and uninspiring imo but whatever works is ok. Hell, they could call it Gummy Bear for all I care as long as it drops something nice and shiny and makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

LOL Gummy Bear? Yep, you're definitely a girl. I agree about the need for something other than a generic name. Maybe this dragon is Fire Dragon & the green one will be on Neudaiz & be Water Dragon? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Because that's not its name. Takao Miyoshi actually proves this in the stage event from last year's TGS. When the party running through the plains area -- Raphon, perhaps? -- gets to the boss warp and warps into the boss's arena, he mentions something to the extent of "di ragan wa doragon no na da." Translated: "De Ragan is the name of this dragon." I had forgotten about this before, but there was a video I downloaded from 4Gamer.net that was shot at last year's E3. The English spelling for this creature's name was shown in a cutscene. Here's a transcript. (As best as I can do without audio. The first line is spoken with the character's backs to the camera, so I can't be for sure who said it, but I guess that's not the point.)

ETHAN: What is this place? Did somebody set off an explosive here?

KAREN: Hmm... This isn't the result of explosives. I think this is a De Ragan's nest.

Dr.DORSON: A De Ragan's nest?

KAREN: We have to get out of here now...

And because I can't seem to take a screenshot of it, here's one (http://www.4gamer.net/news/image/2005.05/20050525222022_3.jpg) directly from the site I got the video from.

Well, that didn't seem to work right. Here, try this link (http://www.4gamer.net/news/history/2005.05/20050525222022detail.html). From there, click on the picture with Dr. Dorson standing behind Karen.

well i know there will be some weapons that reffer to PSO, like how pso has Nei's claw and the Heart of Poumn. as for enemies and rare ones it would be kinda cool if there is a enemy that wasnt just a variation. but i could also se a repeat enemy having a secret...

ex. you see a rag rappy and "kill" it and it gets up and runs away. then you encounter the same rappy somewere else and do the same thing. then you follow it to some remote area where u fight it once more and it will give u a rappy wing.

but like odin could tell u, i am always thinking of hypothetical situations. i need a RESIST/WhatIf+ -_-

OK now you're scaring me. As for the Dragon. A dragon is a dragon is a dragon. They can name it whatever they want in Japan. You KNOW it wont be called that outside of Japan. Besides, the letters (& semi-pronunciation) is too similar to refer to it as anything but a dragon. Til a TRUE official name is released for the US version...it's Dragon.

I'm not questioning its species. I know it's a dragon. In fact, it's a type of dragon named De Ragan. Here, I've gone back and watched the TGS stage show where Miyoshi talks about this creature. Here's what he says. "Di Ragan se nan desu keredemo. A no... Di Ragan de na no. Doragon mitai na mono nan desu keredemo na." Translation: "We're going to the De Ragan's nest. Uh... De Ragan is its name. It's a creature that resembles a dragon." And again, a screenshot (http://www.4gamer.net/news/image/2005.05/20050525222022_3big.html) from SEGA's E3 2005 demo of the game showing the creature's name.

It looks like we're going to keep dancing in circles over this, however, so... shall we agree to disagree? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

This might be the most worthless discussion ever. Whether it's Dragon, Di Ragan, De Ragan... I don't care. I just wanna fight, and then kill it. It's name won't be that important after that. You know people are cravin the game when we're going to lengths just to prove the name of one monster in the game... A game, that most of us haven't touched... And the fact that I read this and was interested, makes things even worse to me.

Anyway, they'll call it something when the game comes. For now, we can assume that it will be De Ragan. That's what it keeps getting called, and this guy got proof for it. Whether or not it'll keep that name later is not known. That's all I should say on this topic.

Now for the more important part...

Color Swapping is what taught us to fear change, because if it looks different then before, chances are... It's gonna destroy you. If they change the color of a dragon, add a little effects, I'm not gonna get pissed that they've done so. At least it's not the same one.

Then there's the fact that it may just be 2 different monsters. Who knows right... It wouldn't be the first time we've seen more then one dragon anyway.

I guess we can agree to disagree. You gotta admit tho his explanation sounds rather sketchy. Almost like he wasn't prepared to answer & came up with it of the top of his head. A creature that resembles a dragon...but isn't a dragon? LOL Quite laughable indeed. I think the difference is the translation. Not yours, Espio. Just in how language is handled & used in 1 country as opposed to another. Japan has a unique way of using articles, grammar, & pronunciation, just as the US does. Of course, no one cares what Im saying about this so I'll leave it at that. Yes, we can agree to disagree...for now. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Those rappucha remind me of monsters you see from the movie "the Labrynth" or "the Dark Crystal" for anyone whose seen those...

Anyway... I personally like re-skinned rare monsters...
It's like, Hildetorr is of the same species as the Hildelts, but he is the alpha... or something like that....
Although, It would also be cool if they had rare monsters that were completely unique as well as reskinned ones...

NTC, I saw both The Dark Crystal & Labyrinth (Dark Crystal is a classic, btw http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif ). What creatures were you referring to? You'd have to remind me for me to make the connection.

Great classic. Let's see if I can jar my memory..
Ah yes, there were the Skeksis ( the half-dead looking evil birds ), the Mystic's ( the peaceful opposites of the before aftermentioned half-dead birds), the 2 dwarfling creatures, that little furby looking ball of hair with teeth etc etc
Eeek, I rambled. Which Dark Crystal creature were you making a reference from? lol

OdinTyler
Apr 12, 2006, 11:57 PM
Maybe it was those Furby creatures you mentioned. I know it wouldn't be those big black beetle guards that worked for the Skeksis. Btw, the Skeksis were vultures. The Mystics look like old wise men that have 3 arms (why 3? LOL) So, what creature was he referring to? Hmmm...

We have seen concept drawings of a traditional PSO Rappy for PSU. It is currently unknown whether the yellow Rappy will make it into the game.

As for the double-headed Dragon, we have seen it in numerous other screenshots. It would probably be safe to say that it isn't a rare version of De Ragan.

Although PSU is a separate story unto itself I think it would be cool to see special rare monster appearances. Perhaps maybe offspring of evolved Olga Flow and Falz would be interesting (Variations not directly related to Red Ring Rico/Heathcliff Flowen). This idea would possibly open the doors to brand new item drop concepts pertaining to gene flow and special rings and how they may relate to new weapons/items/synthesized goodies.

Well...

From what I was told before...

Monsters such as Dark Flow and such are through the PS universe... They're not settled in one real place, just a darkness that plagues the whole universe, it's of course safe to say that they aren't always around as there are times of peace.

PSU has SEED, which isn't really linked to the whole Dark thing so far. Basically making this sorta connection free so far. We don't know of SEED's origions though. And the whole underlying darkness of the Universe is supposed to be Dark Force or something like that. My PS knowledge is a bit rusty.

It's possible though, you never know what ST's gonna throw in. Like the... I think it's the Wilds music in PSO:BB. <3 PS3 music. I'm not even the PS buff of my friends, but I was the one that pointed out the music heh... Then again, now I'm rambling.

Rappy's, no rappy's... Hmm... I do like my rappy's... Yummy.
