View Full Version : Will the GC PSO be delayed?

So what do you all think after hearing about this lil duping bug, and the possibility of a recall for the Japanese version. Is ST dumb enough to risk two recalls? Will they take their time and make things right, or will the hire cheap labor to make things right and get it done on time?

Fixing the US release was really simple actually. There will be no delay.

My weekly contact with Nintendo Of Canada indicates that there will be no delay in the release of the game. I've got it slated for Oct 29th on a sheet that Nintendo e-mailed to me last week.

The MODEMS though......THAT'S a different story altogether. Let's just say that many of you WILL be playing multiplayer offline. Shortage ain't the word.....

I'm finding this alittle funny myself. Nintendo not putting out enough modems when the demand is so high. Are they unable to make them quick enough, or are they just being stupid about the whole ordeal?

Wait, let me go shoot myself in the foot afew times before I go run this marathon...would'nt want to put up any competition or anything.

Demand isn't as great as many may think... its just that some stores will get, proportionally, higher amounts of modems than others. So if your zone isn't allocated enough units: J00 r de fuX0r.

Keep in mind, Nintendo didn't even want to release the modem yet.

I wonder what the ratio of PSO to modems is...

No no.....it's not entirely in Nintendo's control, Abdur.

This is going to sound.....fucked.....but Nintendo isn't entirely convinced that this whole online thing is going to be huge enough to invest all the way in. YOU give a shit about PSO.....but it's only one small title to anyone else, and with it being the ONLY online Cube game on the horizon, you could say that it's not exactly an earthshattering priority.

Modem distribution will be small....just like the PS2 one was. Right now there are problems at the docks which look to be able to royally screw the game industry this Christmas. Importing to North America is a headache right now. Nintendo has drastically cut it's projected forecast because of it. Those modems just happen to be caught up in the middle of it. NOTHING is guaranteed for any system from this point forward....exept for the XboX. They don't use the same methods to acquire their product.

It's a damned good thing that you CAN multi the Cube offline. As a guy who deals with gamers every day as well as Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft...it ain't fun relaying news like this. Sometimes things don't turn out the way you want them to. ESPECIALLY 11 weeks til Christmas.

I heard those guys on strike at the docks in San Fran, under the new contract they want, would average $114,000 a year.

With a salary like that, I might just quit school, and move there... o.O;

No kidding.

The thing that pisses me off the most, rbf2000, is that these guys sure do know how to pick the best time to strike. Christmas is speeding towards us, but the product may not.

Yeah thats why I asked. I wasn't sure if Nintendo were just slacking, weren't keen on the idea of just how wide spread the want for the modems are, or if there were other factors involved.

It seems it's all three really.

Nintendo doesn't want to push too hard to get all of the hardware out to as many as possible because they prolly don't realise how many people are awaiting it's release, and the whole ordeal at the docks. Wow.

I'm not sure how Nintendo can't see the importance of online play in the current age of console gaming. I mean, the DC put quite a mark on the console era with built-in modem and games which took advantage of it, I think it more than proved that if even one good game supports online play, it will be quite a success.

Sure, it's but one title to Nintendo, and I am but one person, but that's what you have to look at from as well. You can't just say "eh, there's only one online game and there are alot of people that want it..but still, we aren't set on if it'll be profitable".

Maybe thats why I bought an X-box instead of a GC, so I did'nt have to dilly-dally with un-released or not enough hardware for the masses because of shoddy decisions. =

If there weren't this big deal about modems and so on, I'd prolly rush out right now to buy a GC and pre-order PSO and a BBA from an online site. But from the standings right now, I might pre-order a BBA and just wait a while for a GC and GC PSO.

As for the contract of $114k a year for those at the dock. Wow..thats quite a bit of cash. What comes with their line of work that they want so much? High risk is the only thing I can see as being a reason for it, yeah?

PS2 Network Adapters were shipped out on the release date totaling 500,000 worldwide. With 12 million or so PS2's out there, this is a small #.

I expect that Nintendo will ship at about the same rate the first day and week even though there are substancially less GC's out there worldwide(I'd say below 4 mil).

When the day is over, there will be more PSO discs than Modems out there as was touched up on earlier in this topic. So ask your retailer how many they're getting and be one of the first in line if you don't wanna get screwed. Pre-ordering is a thing to look at also(assuming you can pre-order modems in places besides online chains).

Could the shortage of modems maybe have to do with the fact that having 500k+ people trying to log into the same servers at the same time might be a little disastrous? Just a thought...

I preordered mine. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

I am getting my BBA tomorrow, so, if anybody wants to buy my 56k modem, let me know.

Dumb question, but would it work on a different GC than yours or is there any type of lock out set up?

All region modems work on all region gamecubes. There isn't any lock out feature. It's just like using a controller, it works in the same manner.

There are two ways that this store can get Nintendo product. Either directly from Nintendo Of Canada, which you have to have "status" with Nintendo in order to do...which we do...

OR get it from a common supplier, which MOST video game stores use to get their stuff. I got an e-mail for prebooks on Monday from "the local warehouse" and it in effect said that the modems for the Cube weren't going to be readily available BUT not to sweat it because the demand WON'T be there anyway. IN FACT in the same e-mail they kindly offered to apply credit for preorders of modems to other merchandise if we so desired.

I recall that in this store we sold less than a dozen copies of PSOversion2. There WERE quite a number of unsold copies that were returned to the distributors. I'm only getting enough copies of the Cube PSO to cover the PSOWers on here that are my customers...and a few for "walk-ins". MOST Cube owners that I talk to don't even know about the online capabilities OR PSO, unless they owned a Dreamcast before. I've got WAY more PSOers that are on the XboX than Cube.

My own personal thoughts after seeing what's going on.....is that the Cube may very well be the WRONG system to own as far as PSO for online use is concerned. I honestly feel that the XboX will do everything the right way. What I've seen so far certainly points in that direction.

I preordered my gamecube BBA about 2 weeks ago. Any chance I wont get it or have to wait for 1-2 more shipments? I had to wait til 2nd shipment of Gamecubes for mine.

Well, Ginko....you more than likely will get one. You might have to wait a shipment or two, depending on your local allocation. What I've said about it being tough to get for many people pertains mainly to those who expect to walk into a store with a fistful of cash and just buy one on the spot....unless you're friends with the guy behind the counter. Ghent and Warchild will get theirs no problem. (LOL)

That's the beauty of the XboX this time around. Just buy the game. You've already got the modem ages ago.
