View Full Version : The most important question about PSU...

No, really...

What's the music like? No-one seems to have mentioned it (unless it's buried in a thread about the different hats you can wear). Is it up to the standard of PSO?

I thought most of PSO's soundtrack was a bit on the generic side aside from a few selections here and there. Episode III had a great soundtrack though.

I quite like what I've heard of the PSU music though. I'd say it's a bit more in the same style of PSO only it seems more refined this time and stands out a bit more.

Judging from the movies seen, I still can't tell if the music juts in and out of action or not...

You know, the music drops a pace when there's no enemies around. Then the beaty version of it kicks in when there are enemies around you? Has this been questioned yet? probably http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Most of the music I have heard from videos is great! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif Definitely more upbeat for the most part... And Guardians Colony's tune is perfect for a continuous relaxing loop! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

I defenately agree with that. PSO's soundtrack was a tad mediocre. Music in a game is a big deal for me so I'm hopoing PSU will have good stuff. Although, we must also keep in mind that the offline RPG mode might have a comletely different soundtrack. The last trailer I saw had this one BGM that, imo, rivaled any of those epic sci-fi/fantasy movies. I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

I hope they still have some calmer tracks... I love how relaxing and ambient the music in PSO is... I could listen to music of Forest, Mines, Ruins, Temple, Seabed, CCA, lobby, etc literally all day because it was so ambient...

Ya it was nice, but i like some upbeating music too, rather then relaxing one <.<;

yeah i liked the music in PSO, So i'm happy that the music is just as good if not better in PSU.

There's basically nothing out there that sounds quite the way PSO does... that light blend of orchestral and electronica. The score for PSO is up there with my all-time favourites. Probably partly because of the intense happy nostalgic feeling I get whenever I hear the music, but mainly down to it being just plain excellent (and some genuinely classic boss tunes to boot). Revolution to the Origin never fails to give me goosebumps.

I'm happy to hear that PSU's score seems to be carrying on the tradition of superb Phantasy Star music http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I wonder if they'll remix any of the old PS music? I would love to hear a remix of the Town Theme from PSIII or, better yet, Laughter and Organic Beat from PSIV!

I'd love to hear Requiem for Lutz (http://www.algol-star-system.net/music-house/midis/ps4-requiem2.mid) remixed and expanded upon with a full symphony. Also, End of the Millenium (http://www.algol-star-system.net/music-house/midis/ps4-title1.mid) would be great. It's one of the best title songs for an RPG I've ever heard... it still gets me pumped up listening to it.

Though I'd like some of the PSO songs to return as well... expecially The Nearest Place to the Heavens Pt 1, The Frenzy Wilds, and IDOLA have the devine blade.

Can You Still See The Light was a gorgeous song as well. I don't necessarily think it should make a comeback... but perhaps another song like it. It was an absolutely perfect example of what an ending song to a PS game should be. Lines like "Soon, the dawn will come again - but what have I got? What has it cost me?" and "Tell me please, how much we have to bleed before we get to the land of dreams" send a shiver up my spine when thinking back to the destruction of Palma, the death of Nei, Rico, & Alyz, and all the other examples of death and tragedy which leads to the inevitable bitter-sweet ending.

Those bitter-sweet endings are one of the many reason why I've always prefered the PS series to the FF series.

I was hoping to hear some dynamic music on this game, but it doesn't have this feature which i thin was the mark of PSO. I'm really disappointed. Nothing compared to the old tunes... Lame... I hope the final version has better tunes... PSO rocks at this... I mean, the music from PSU is not that bad, but i was hoping to see some IDOLA level stuff... The opening theme is beautiful tough...

If you don't like the PSU music that much, turn on the PSO soundtrack and lower the volume on PSU http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Holy crap yes...

Original version (http://media.putfile.com/PSIV-Theme) > crappy midi version

But yeah, I agree, that's one of my favorite bits of videogame music.
