IMO the voices sound fine. I've heard far far worse dubing before.

Please refrain from refering to fictional characters or their voices as "gay", IMO that is really childish and insults the creative efforts of the PSU development team, and belittles gay and bi individuals. Seriously.

Voices are fine to me, I'm english so either way it sounds foreign lol and yes ethan's voice was annoying in japanese too. Over excited young teens give me angst.

GRRRRRRRRRR!!!! J/K

I don't know why people are already ready to burn Sega down over what little of the dub has been heard so far. The fascination with Japanese voice acting being better no matter what eludes me, but whatever. It doesn't sound bad at all. It's no Hollywood blockbuster, but besides maybe the Metal Gear Solid games, what is?

I think it's more the fact... The origional script is written in Japanese. And the actors they hire, are hired speciffically for their roles. In Japan, Voice Acting is a very popular job. There's lots of people who try out, and the Voice Actresses/Actors become pretty famous and popular... To them, Voice Acting is not too much different from acting, you can achieve the same level of fame.

This makes it easy for people to hear on voice... Then hear another... And simply say it doesn't fit. I hear things in Japanese often, and really... I have no problem with reading subtitles. At the same time, I prefer dubs. It's great when the voices are in English and they're good. Even tolerable.

Like I said though, as far as I go, Ethan's voice in Japanese was annoying. He was just that kind of character. It's tolerable, but I guess... Because you can't understand it, it seems that much better in Japanese. The words flow differently then in English, so you could never expect it to be the same.

I didn't say the voice acting was bad, They're going for that teen angst effect I guess. Either way it being translated means it should be shipping in 2 - 3 months. Marketing will mostly be done already and ready for release and the CD's will most likely be currently being printed in the following few months.

Based on that voice acting video... I have a very very obscure story hypothesis that I need to get off my chest

Mirei and Karen are twins http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif

And if not, they are in some way closely related

You can quote me on that too... And if I'm wrong, feel free to lynch me or something! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Seriously. He sounds to OLD.

I would not mind if Tom Welling (from "Smallville")was doing the voice for Ethan, his voice is good, not annoying at all.

Actually...

I think this is the point of the story where Karen begins having flashbacks of when she was a child, and witnessed her mother being torn apart by monsters at Mizuraki Preserve. Quite possibly, it may've been a group of Tengoug that did it, just as they're going after Mirei in this video.

It was in an issue of Famitsu from last year. Not sure of the issue number, but it's one where the main focus is on Neudaiz.

I just hope at least they stick BOTH the EN and JP voices for US release so we have a choice.

Or maybe the option to turn 'em off with just subs. I enjoy reading better than listening.

After hearing it again... It's really not that bad at all to me. Seems like they did a pretty decent job, and it's not like we get a really good way to judge it... The audio and the visual quality were pretty bad.

Yeah, it'd be nice to have an option to turn voices off. I don't wanna hear Ethan in Japanese... I'm sorry...

Why dont you just wait till you see a bit more than 20 seconds of voice acting. THEN call it weak http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Ethan's voice made me laugh, I think it's ridiculous. English works more than fine in productions that were originally American or British, but I don't really like dubs. I'd really appreciate it if they allowed both languages globally, but would give players the choice to pick languages for both the voices and the subtitles separately.

I've watched all the movies now, and I have to say that the voice acting we've heard so far isn't bad at all, at least to my ears. Maybe it's just Baten Kaitos screwing up my frame of reference, but the VAs here actually inflect their lines believably and the sound quality is good. I'm just happy to have those two things; the actual sound of the voice doesn't concern me (though these are definitely bearable).

I'm assuming no one here has ever heard or played games that were dubbed by sega on the saturn. Those were literally atrocities in the world of dubbing... Shining force III... anyone?!?
my favorite one
"ITH THITH THE END?"
"RRRAAAIN THUNDTHUR"
"NOW BEAR MY ARTIC BLAST"

Oh i hope someone gets this.

The Truth is...........
They are just very good friends, sisterly bond, all that jazz

But here is the real shocker, the ending of PSU!!!
Ethan and Karen get married! and Mirei gets with Leogini

And an unexpected part:
The one before this isn't true, lol

spoiler, lol, why would you highlight this one too, lol

I think the voice acting is just fine. People will complain about English voices no matter how good they are simply because some people have a consuming obsession that Japanese is better. The voices are fine.

I feel the same way. It's just the same with all the animé. Sure, they might not be the best voiceactors, its not HORRIBLE.
Priority number 1 for me is that I can understand it without having to read the subtitles.

I can understand your point on reading as opposed to listening to someone else's idea of what that character should sound like. I've read a few books that were turned into films and the voices sounded nothing like how i imagined they should, sometimes its just better to keep things inside your mind. Like those dirty thoughts you have that are just sick and wrong.....

Edit: But sometimes you just wanna be lazy and let them act it out if you can't be assed getting overly involved.

It will still be fun listening to them in english. I can relate to them more when they speak my language. A foreign language would just empty the soul in their words.

Anyways this is great news that the game will be completed and ready for U.S.A. around Fall 2006.

na i tend to prefer Japanese actors to obviously poor/unconvinvfing/foolish voce acting, that can take you out the game. And perhaps because i have watched so much subtitled anime, i can usually get some feeling from teh charachters, thier tone, speed emotion, that stuiff is still there. Though i must say some of the classics like Akira, and fist of the northstar heck even guyver had some classic lines and classic delivery. I wonder if they were actually better or i was just young and amped up

No. When an english company spends even a DECENT amount of money on voice acting, it shows. I LOVE some of the english dub voices for some videogames. But, for anime, you will see bearable voices every 1 in 10 shows. I plan to watch these gamespot videos today, I really do want to hear bearable voices when I do, because I may very well buy both the japenese and english release.

I'm also going to download the videos sometime today.

I just hope they don't/aren't using the same VA's featured in the 2 shining games for the ps2 because althouth they were "bearable" to me at least, I hope they actually put some effort into this part of the game.

I'd be capable of dubbing many voices, give me the material and you have atleast 15 characters dubbed, males/females/enemies, anything http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
I've done theater and dubbing for quite a while now, so I could cover the awfull voices! Anyway, Ethan's voice is less... how to put this?... Stingy than the japanese version. I think the voices are fine, just gotta get use to them...

I hope ST realizes that because this is one of their "bigger" titles coming out, they SHOULD be releasing it dual language to appease both the fans who want it in English and JP (and it wouldn't hurt their sales - that's just one more good thing to add to the list of stuff that makes PSU rock). And besides, we got big JP names VAing the JP voices, and if anyone here is even remotely an anime fan, they will recognize these big names (and do take note, these guys/girls are GOOD). I don't think we should lose the option to hear the game the way it naturally sounded - I find it kind of dumb to be reading subtitles for the language I understand - if you got subtitles, that means all you gotta do is just preserve the JP track. It's not terribly hard, and contrary to popular belief, it doesn't take a TON of space on the DVD itself to add it.

But we'll see, Sega's been kind of off and on about the voice acting option for their Sonic titles, so we'll have to figure it out. I do agree however that the JP Ethan Weber is annoying - WAY too much energy, give me some of your Jolt cola plz.
