Takao Miyoshi: There are many vehicle scenes that you will find in Phantasy Star Universe and there will be some specific areas for vehicles. There is a water-ski bike and tanks that can be used to attack opponents. You can actually change the acceleration of the water skis and vehicles and can also do a lot of customization with them.

Yay! there will be specific areas for vehicles! so that's good they are offering on-foot areas and vehicle areas, so that sounds huge!

I wonder if you can travel on-foot in the vehicle areas?

http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/burger.gif Many vehicle scenes??? I guess there will be scenes beyond the spaceship travel scenes between planets! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/frenchfries.gif You can adjust the acceleration! that's good that it's beyond 'stop and fast'. It sure sounds more natural. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/hotdog.gif Customization for vehicles???? Wow I don't know how that would be like. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Takao Miyoshi: (smiles and starts counting down on fingers) Jet skis, tanks, and dinosaurs that shoot fire. There won't be any player-controlled flying vehicles, however.

http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/cone.gif Hmmm I guess hoverboards might not be in.

Oh well, Jetskis look a lot cooler and more expensive. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

drivable Tanks sounds incredible! I remember the vehicles in PSIV. It was so cool how you could battle while inside them in first person! The dashboard and gauges made it feel like you were actually inside! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

the PSU tanks might be used for travel and combat in 3rd person, most likely. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

If Tanks can hold maybe up to 6 people at once, maybe there will be a clever way to decide who gets to drive? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

riding fire breathing dinos sounds fun! it's cool our mounts can actually do something besides travel. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I wonder, is he calling the hover-bike vehicle seen in the promo video a "jet ski"???
It would be neat if the hoverboard is at least available in the offline storymode.

Then when Ethan goes back in time to help get back the Sports Almanac from the Future that was given to 50's Biff Taner by Future Biff, then Ethan can catch Biff in his car to get the almanac magazine back. Go hoverboard! J/K

What I'm wondering is if this actually means that people will be able to have their own vehicles if they will be customizable. It would be especially cool if they could be used outside of missions, but that doesn't seem likely. Besides, it would more than likely start a new trend of "lolololhaha i can run u ovr!"

I wonder how much of this vehicle element will spill over into online play. I think he was speaking about the offline game during that quote, but I don't think he got specific on anything. I think that have a Lunga for just part of a mission would be nice.

it's most likely online supported also, since he said there are areas that specifically support vehicles. they are not just cutscenes for the story mode.

Considering how much is available online and offline, from the cities to the areas to the bosses, shops, etc., vehicle areas online could be very very possible.

missions and areas you can revisit to fight monsters/hunt for rares, are the samething.

they just have the ranking system attached to give players more benefits.

Im sure the vehicle-specific areas can be revisited and used as many times as you want. All completed missions can be done again.

wow if the vehicle areas/missions are really large and open, maybe people might start races with them. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

If hover-tanks are to some degree "customizable" I wonder just how customizable..

I am reminded of what Tank Girl did to her stolen tank in the movie "Tank Girl" now that's some wild customization.

I'm pretty sure the areas with vehicles are very specifically designed with the vehicles in mind, so it's not like you'll be driving the tank down the same area you would be clearing out on foot.

Also, from the interview it did sound like the vehicles play a much larger role offline than online, and it may be that the vehicle areas aren't available online, especially since it's hard to imagine how they might work with 6 people at once.

6 jetskis online would be so cool! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

it really isnt hard to imagine. just image 6 players on 6 vehicles.

the tank may be the exception though. you might only get 1 or 2 in an area. but maybe they can hold 3 players each.

FF11 can support dozens of players on chocobos.

Im sure PSU can handle 6 jetskis/mounts at once in special missions/areas for a party.

there are also rumors two players can ride one jetski.

I really can't wait to see how vehicles turn out in this game. I hope they will be used more than just offline.

All the Big Photonic Cell Corperations and their inflated prices. They're just using the War Against The Seed as an excuse to raise prices.

People of Graal will have to switch to Alternative Solar-Methane Cells for their Hybrid Hover-Cars! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

So we will have to find three jobs to even out the meseta in our everyday life. I guess I only got 4 hours of sleep now. lol.

ShadowDragon28
May 19, 2006, 01:07 PM
Those three jobs will be:
National Guard Officer stationed at the Border between Parum and Motoob ("Hunter"),
a Transit Security Agency Baggage Checker ( "Ranger"), and a Offiice of Homeland Security Data Entry clerk ("Force") as ppl will have use lot's of different "techniques" to transcibe 1500-2500 lines of data into a database. Getting it all done will be an act of magic...

It kind of suck that we can't ride on hoverboards like in the previews. Maybe they will add it on as soon as everyone get adjusted to PSU.

they never promised ridable hoverboards.

that was just seen in cutscenes and Ethan was the only one using one in those cutscenes.

it's like the huge cities and all those endless buildings and flying cars you see in the intro, you can't expect all of it to be accessible in the gameplay. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Hmm..
As far as animal transportation goes..
what ever happened to those big tank sized animals with the riding horn?
You can't tell they aren't made for travel after looking at the image here: http://www.pso-world.com/images/screenshots/psu/universe_20.jpg

Eh, when games have vehicle specific areas, generally the vehicles are poorly made(since its not going to be used all the times) and it will probably have bad control. They probably wont be all that fun(just some side missions that are thrown in there for the sake of saying "look at us we have vehicles in our game) woohoo......... This is bad news http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif This looks like the vehicles wont be all that great as we had hope.

Shinjiro
May 19, 2006, 05:33 PM
I personally think they should make the vehicles a important aspect of the game... For one, its a quick way to get from one place to another. Also, they can make some situations where you have to use a certain vehicle to cross water, fly over a canyon, etc. I also think i'd be awesome if you could get a hoverboard and have your weapon on at the same time... Fly past a monster and cut it in half, w00t.

I was joking.

While that particular sword is *similar* to Flowen's Sword, it *is* bit different; Flowens had clear glass-like blade, and that sword Ethan is holding has a glowing white photon blade, and little orange bits on the hilt that Flowen's Sword didn't have. LOL
