I have a friend who recently acquired a used XBOX to use as a media center
device.
He saw me playing GC PSO and he was interested in the
multilingual ability of the game since he is learning to
speak German.
Does the XBOX version of the game have word select and keyboard
support as well?
What version of the game would be required to run on an
unmodded Australian XBOX? (Are there PAL/NTSC/region
issues on XBOX?)
Anyone know much about signing up for XBOX live in Australia?
Could he play on European XBOX PSO servers if he wants to
play with German spekaing players?
I'm a bit ignorant when it comes to XBOX. Sorry.

im pretty sure you are sent to the servers that you use to get on Xbox live (britians and germans and so on are sent to EU servers, so im guessing Australian would to, i dunno though, but i think thats how it goes

Yes, the XBox has word select and keyboard support, and can be switched to different languages.
As far as Australia goes, sorry I can't help you there. Australia is a bit out of the way from Europe, actually it's a bit out of the way from most places. I really couldn't see XBox sticking Australia in with XBoxlive/Japan, but I know Japan has it's own server. That is the closest area that I know of having XBoxlive server. Maybe Australia has it's own server?
His best bet would be to call XBoxlive and they should be able to help him out. Good luck.

I am fairly certain that an unmodded australian xbox can only hop on the euro server.
I had an Aussie friend that was able to join me on the North American server via use of a modded US xbox and Canadian xbox live kit. He simply input the name of the store he bought the kit from as his billing info, rar.

as a xbox european player who plays online a lot - I have NEVER seen anyone from australia playing on the eu servers - so that leaves me to conclude that either 1 no australians play xbox online or 2 they dont get to come onto the EU servers.

I'd assume they get put onto the JP servers as I've always thought Australia was classed as Oceania or something, along with Japan (well in Football anyway).
Then again, Australian games a PAL releases and work on a EU PAL console (or used to back in the PSOne days as a mate of mine had a copy of Ape Escape from Australia)

Oceania or Australasia - u can use either it means the same area - this is the continent that australia lies in...but i have no idea which servers they can access with psox it makes sense that it would be the japenese servers though.

Bingo.
By defualt the Australian xbox is Pal so Australians would play on the Eu server.
I have no idea if the game is available in Australian stores but if he orders it from Europe it will work on his xbox but he may need to enter a European address.
Like HNIC said I altered my region code so I could play on the American servers and used the address that was on the game.
I did strike a small problem when they asked me my address when I cancelled and it took me about 5 minutes to remember I had told them I lived in Canada but after that I said I had moved and it was no problem.
