By which I meant... has marvel actually finally included non-standard gender/sexual-orientation in some of their characters?

And I missed this?

How?

Because seriously with all their emphasism on diversity etc. in xmen it seems like it is a long time coming... (out)

Do you mean homosexual characters? If so, there has been a ton of Gay and Lesbian characters in marvel for sometime.

Mystique is bisexual, Northstar is gay, Hulkling and Asguardian from Young Avengers are a couple and there are several other characters who like the company of the same sex.

Northstar was an Xman, but then he died...then came back to life again. I think he is alive still. Um, yeah. Oh, he is alive:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northstar

Theres apparently a topic somewhere on Wikipedia detailing other gay superheroes, but im having trouble finding it. However, modern day marvel seems to be quite happy to have a few gay characters in their universe (recent Marvel Team Up introduced a brand new gay character). They can be quite open minded.

[Additional]
Went through mine and my flatmates comics quickly.

Freedom Ring was the new character from 'Marvel Team Up' who was revealed to be gay in his second issue.

Flatman from the Great Lakes Avengers came out as gay after years of hints (Some rather odd, comically baltent ones in 'Deadpool') in the recent GLA mini series by Dan Slott.

The Mighty Destroyer (Currently 'Destroyer') is another gay character from 'New Invaders' (A series which was sadly cancelled).

Ive also managed to track down two lists of Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual characters with the help of my flatmate.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:LGBT_comic_book_characters

That one is just a list really, this one goes into slightly more depth:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_gay%2C_lesbian_or_bisexual_comics_characte rs

These lists do contain characters from other companies as well though.

Yeah, sounds like a rather cheap ploy from DC, probably trying to be edgy and stuff. Hopefully it will be well written.

That's all DC does nowadays. They go all for shock value and the edge factor.

Marvel seem to have started to use...DC-isms (new word, huzzah!) a lot lately. 'House of M' seemed to be pure DC and all it achieved was killing off or depowering a hell of a lot of characters that really didnt deserve it. Even Civil War seems to be blatent about it (Poor New Warriors).

I was trying too.

I really dislike these Summer Event's they always do in comics as they are always forgotten a year later. All they ever seem to achieve is that somebodies favourite character is dead. Marvel have done 3 'Epic' events in a row it seems and now they are just getting boring. Civil War just doesnt interest me because its more of the same. Thats why im really enjoying 'Moon Knight', no Civil War! /rant

I am actually enjoying Civil War (Illuminati #1 was one of my top 10 comics from Marvel). I didn't care for HoM or Avengers.

Also this story will more than likely make a somewhat large dent in the Marvel universe. Nothing like Infinite Crisis but it will be large enough.

Also would like to put out that even though DC is having a better year so far in stories than Marvel; One comic that suprised me was Wolverine #41. Beautiful art and a nice "WOLVERINE SLASH!" story.

I love Humberto Ramos' art and is one of the reasons I picked up Wolverine #41. Story was suprisingly good as well and im hoping it keeps away from the Regisration story line of Civil War for a bit.

Next would be the Amazing Spider-Man Issues #529-#531. If you need any backstory on the new suit just ask.

And sadly the Wolverine story has already gone into Civil War territory but alas it has not dissapointed me yet. The story talks about Wolverine asking all the heros about why Nitro (the reason the whole Civil War started) is not being looked into.

Also are you sure it was Humberto Ramos that was the artist for #41. I know he is the artist for #42 but it doesn't look like he was credited for #41.

Im pretty sure as he was getting slagged off big time for his preview pages looking to 'Manga and Happy' on the Newsarama message boards. My flatmate knew I love dhis art and linked me to the thread (which also helped me with my decision to buy the comic).

I don't know brief.

Iron Man had learned that the government is debating whether or not to pass the "Super Hero Registration Act" so he gathers all the greatest minds/leaders in the world (Black Bolt, Xavier, Himself, Reed, Namor, Dr. Strange, and T'challa). T'challa left the group because they planned to keep this so secretive that they would not even tell their family. The group of people met only 2 times before this. Once after the Skree/Krull war and Once to figure out what to do with The Hulk (They tossed him into space). When they got together to discuss what to do with the Superhero Registration Act Iron Man said that he agreed with it and gave a long speech saying that they should go along with it so the Government doesn't go to war with them. Some agreed (Reed), Some dissagreed (Strange), Some wondered why the hell they were there (Namor). Thus begins the split between the humans.

That is Illuminati #1

Next Amazing Spider-man #529-#531

After the "bleh" The Other arc Tony Decides to give Spider-man his new armor to bribe him to his side.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e0/SMCW.jpg
He goes over to his side and goes with Tony to Washington D.C. to talk to the government about the bill. Peter shows up as Spider-man a few times in the court room and each time he gets owned verbally.

Now Civil War #1

New Warriors who are part of a reality show were doing a live broadcast of them doing a bust on some supervillans. They seem to be doing alot of rookie stuff to get ratings. Then they get to Nitro. Nitro says "You're playing with the big boys now" and blows him self up(it's his power). He kills about 300 people including most of the New Warriors. Since it was live broadcast and everyone saw them try to get ratings boosting they blamed the Super Heroes. Thus the Government is 2 steps away from passing the bill.

That is everything. That I have read about Civil War. Other things that I couldn't go into would be the inclusion of Black Bolt in the war because it turns out that he has declared it on the U.S.A. I guess you the main idea of what is going on from my "brief" summary.
