SEGA of America released the system requirements for the PC version of PSU. All patches will surely be packed in the CD, I mean, it takes 10GB of space on disk. It also isnt written either or not an internet connection is needed to play offline, only said broadband recommended

If GameGuard makes it into the final release, you'll probably need the constant Internet connection just for that piece of software.

Aww man, my graphics card isn't good enough.. AND it's a laptop, I'm gonna have to fork out for a new PC. I wonder if PSU will just about manage with my GEForce4 488... only one way to find out! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Well spotted update man, even though it's just PC req's, for SOA, any update is big.

You're fine.

Geforce 6 Series > GeForce3/4.
nVidia kinda changed the nomenclature of their chipset families, but it's still numerical based on the first digit.

Disk Space: minimum 3.0GB (10GB required for product)
I'm 100% positive that this does NOT mean you need a 7 gig swap file. That would be absolutely rediculous. Although the way they have stated it is a bit confusing, I believe it means you need a minimum of 3 gigs of information stored on your harddrive, with the rest being loaded off the disc if you choose that install. For the full install, where little or nothing has to be read off your CD drive (I hope they release a version that comes on a DVD, I hate messing with multiple CD installs), you'll have a hefty 10 gigs taken up on your harddrive.

The box art for the PC version found on the main page implies that the PC version will come on a DVD. (The DVD-ROM software logo is on the lower left corner of box)

Yeah, you're right. I looked at the SoA PSU site and it said "PC-CDROM," though, which is why I assumed it was being released on multiple CDs. I hope the box art is right, though. >.>

holy crap they updated that site.

also I've been thinking of simply getting a dell package(I've no money to spare), the 1100 is cheap may be able to run PSU(not sure about its gfx though). Might just get a 3100 instead.

So long as you plan on getting Vista as well as DX9 is the best we are going to get with Windows XP.

I played alot of mmorpgs just using a video card that came stock with one of those cheap Dell packages they come out with, the $500 ones and I can play without lag. I've played FF XI, RF online on pc and even Lineage II on a laptop, but that was lag city when you changed areas.

They really can't release it on DVD if you think about it....
That is, if you don't want to make things much harder for people, lol.

Yeah, the thing about those budget MX cards is that they aren't even really Geforce4's, they're essentially nothing more than the older cards repackaged and given a new name (along with maybe a bit of upclocking). However, it's not entirely clear whether they meant ANY Geforce4. I would guess that your card can in fact run it (even if it reports your card being too low during the install), but you will have to keep all the options on minimum and still deal with some stuttering now and then.

Edit: And yeah, you can get a decent upgrade for way cheap. If you're talking bargain basement, you can get a 5xxx series for probably 50-100 bucks nowadays (not an actual figure, I'll let one of the experts give you the good recommendations, you might even be able to do better... *also waits for VioletSkye to correct him about the MX series*).

well at least the slowness of their WEBSITE updating won't affect the actual release dates.

Besides we have plenty of resources to stay up to date. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

but then less people would be able to even run it on their PC.

and that would mean they would cancel the PS2 version since it wouldnt be able to handle it either.

I don't criticize PC gaming.... some of them just convince me to defend consoles because they are so persistent to make consoles seem like they are a inferior/unplayable way to enjoy games, when its not true.

besides anything I say are not directed at all PC gamers. or even PC gamers in general. Mostly poking fun like the ones I debated with before in another board that showered consoles with insults, and even unjustified blame. Those types are all over the place.

They won't live and let live.
Consoles obviously have their fanatics that despise and criticizing PC gaming unfairly, but we hear it mostly from SOME PC gamers since they naturally can upgrade their PCs and therefore their advancements in technology cause some to.... express their personal judgement about consoles in a very rude manner.
It's their right to speak their thoughts, just like us. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/ducky.gif

Back on the thing of 'Official Updates', here on the other side of the pond, the European website was also slightly updated.

http://www.sega-europe.com/en/Game/176.htm

All they've done is remove that silly 'Summer 2006' release blurb, and changed it to 'Autumn 2006' (Fall). Using some of the sites listed under the "shop now" affiliates, a general (http://shop.gameplay.co.uk/webstore/advanced_search.asp?keyword=Phantasy+Star+Universe&platform=ALL) release (http://www.game.co.uk/ViewProduct.aspx?cat=10&mid=328605) date seems to be November (some even pinpointing it to the 24th) at a price of £29.99. The Xbox 360 release is also listed for this same day on some sites.

I'll still be importing, but perhaps there won't be all that long a wait for any PAL'ers after all.
