View Full Version : Official Standard for PSU shorthand?

I have heard arguments over what to use as the short hand system for PSU. Some have used the PSO short hand while others opted to spell out the full race gender class/gender race class. Why not use an RGC(race gender class) acronym aka RGC? What do you think should be used until an official short hand is revealed? PSO's or the RGC

RGC FORMAT: Race Gender Class initial system for shorthand of the full spelled versions.

R A N G E R:
Beast: BMR | BFR
Human: HMR | HFR
Cast: CMR | CFR
Newman: NMR | NFR

F O R C E:
Beast: BMF | BFF(funny)
Human: HMF | HFF
Cast: CMF | CFF
Newman: NMF | NFF

H U N T E R:
Beast: BMH | BFH
Human: HMH | HFH
Cast: CMH | CFH
Newman: NMH | NFH

No the PSO one sounded more creative.

Yeah, the PSO abbreviations work fine and sound much better than the three letter abbreviations.

the HU, FO, and RA prefixes are easily recognized, and all those abreviations would get confusing. Like Kyuu said, the PSO terms are also more creative.

Yeah the original PSO ones are more than shorthands, they sound like official classifications. Also seems easier to remember than even three letter acronyms because they make perfect sense. Hmm a hunter that is a cast and is male. HUcast.

Eh... who cares. It seems to me only indicating race and gender are important, since it's possible to change your job whenever.

That and, PSO didn't have Beasts. So it's not so much "PSO's system" in that case so much as it is "what we've decided to make up".

Are people so lazy as to not want to say it completely? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif

ah well, people will come up with their own short versions of them anyway if there is no official way of saying them. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

PSO's system is much easier for the New people to understand as well. saying B.F.R (OMFG PLANETSIDE!!!!.....nvm) is much more harder to figure out than FObeast female Or FObeastra (my femininity for Beast class)

does it even matter? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

these sort of nicknames are just used by nitpicky party leaders who don't want 'lower-tier' class combinations in their party. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I mean just looking at them you can already know their race and gender. all you need to ask is for their class.

I'm not sure, but for most new players these three-letter combinations would probably just be confusing...

i second that^

when i hear the 3 letter acronim i would have to stop and proces that, while the PSO way gives more of an imidiate idea. not that im saying your way is horrible, but i just find the pso system better for me. that also makes me wonder... for the ppl who start playing with PSU and have no PSO experience, i wonder what their first though will be when i come in saying im a HUnewearl or a RAmar. i will probably get caught up explaining the PSO system, but i think eventualy it will spread enuff 4 ppl to get a general idea when u say im a HUbeastra ^_^

I just dislike, and have always disliked the way the PSO shorthand system sounds. It always sounds bad to me (marl? marl?! is what I thought when I said it outloud the first time)

I actually don't like the endings either. "Newearl" and such is just so much more complicated then it needs to be. I do however like referring to the classes as HU, RA, and FO. It's just comfortable to me.

I really wonder if they thought up what a Female and Male suffixes for PSU would be. That would've been a good question to ask at E3.

Yeah. The prefixes don't bother me. It is just the suffixes that are uncomfortable for me.

Well, my Beast is easy to sum up: Native Motavian. That tells you that most likely he's blue furred, male, & clearly a meleer. In my case, that's exactly what he is. So when ppl ask me what my Beast is? Motavian. Plain & simple. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Well, I know this isn't EQOA, but, it summarizes quite nicely there (thanks to the ability to type & set hotkeys for it). Here's an example of how a PSU one could look.

(Name of char): 10 Human Hunter LFG.

If...IF...we got hotkeys to create like this, that would take care of this whole issue. You could pretty much be as specific as you wanted. Any word if we get hotkeys to use in tandem with Cut-In Chat?

Oh & for those that don't know, LFG=Looking For Group.
