View Full Version : Did people really spend time hanging out in the cities?

^Topic^

I was just wonderring, because in PSO, no one ever went to any of the other lobies, ever. Like the Soccer one or the Casino, b/c there was no point to.

But now, the lobbies are massive cities that we HAVE to span to reach different shops and room and desk etc. Did people really Hang out in the Cities and form groups before going into missions? And did this happen in the outpoists too?

People went to the other lobbies... Although still a rarity-you just had to know where to look... Now I'm not a beta-tester, But I'm going to go ahead and say hell yea people will go to the other cities! In-fact, (and correct me if i'm wrong) you will have to be on the corresponding city to go out to the area there... I mean, they are different planets! ;p

I'm guessing that there will be tons of hott chat in these city scape settings. PSU blind date under a umbrella? Who knows? It seems like a more inviting environment now where everyone can go to relax as well as grind.

yeah the city-themed 'lobbies' are much more natural and no longer feel like prison blocks lol!

and plus with our personal rooms these worlds will feel more like a wuvable home we will take the time to hang out once in a while in and around the city and stuff! ^_^

it's sooooo wonderful they integrated the cities as the core centers where you look up missions, visit shops, meet people, sit and enjoy the view, go to your room and stuff, etc. etc. etc.! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

fun fun! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

yea i feel the same way. having these cities makes me even more excited for the game. i have a feeling there will be ppl just stand in the cities talking for awhile, asking for help, or form groups.

i would have to run around and say "Soccer in lobby 15!" to have hope of a game. but i cant wait 4 the cities. i would stand around on pso looking at every detail wishing we could use the computers on lobby 11 or read the maps in lobby 6. i even was bored enuff to count the fire extinguishers on the EP2 pioneer 2 ( i think there r 4 or 5), tho i did this with a friend while we were mag raising. PSU will have much more of a warmer environment for chatting, getting preparied for battle, or just admireing the surroundings. all that 2 say, yes there will but much hanging out in the cities

there was a casino lobby WTF!!

Saner
Jun 9, 2006, 07:21 AM
the casino lobby was overdoing it! lol.

I think the casino won't return because they might encourage underage people to gamble. then people will be blaming this and that. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I heard there's a pub in the Moatob area. I already know plenty of people who'll be hanging out in that place.

People really will enjoy thereselves in the lobbies though. I think that'll make the game more appealing to people who haven't played it. Just going over to a friends house and watching them run around the city, talking to different people, viewing shops, hanging out in there room and such. Of course, that's all a gateway to show them gameplay.

Exploring the cities themselves will always be the first activity when people get to them. From there, they may discover things they missed the first time around the next time they return. It's a huge improvement from the regular PSO lobbies, although I loved the lobby music.

Having actual cities to explore gives it a more RPG feel that the series hasn't had since PSIV. Even something as simple as a pub (good way to have a spot to buy food & drinks) really reminds you of what an RPG should be: full of exploration. I could see myself just running through the cities, seeing what each has to offer. Still, I'd like an in-city transport if I could, rather than having to walk everywhere. From the looks of things, it could take half an hr or more just trying to see it all. The rooms are something we should've had long ago & knowing me, I'll spend hours & hours just decorating making it feel like MY place. When I'm not lost in the wonder of it all, I have to remind myself "Hey dummy, go XP!" LOL

i think alot of people will hang around the city....even in the small lobbys from pso alot of people would just chill in photon chairs n chat...make stupid symbol chats..run around...but with expanded worlds....alot more people will chill...i will explore cities after im like at a good decent level!

Those photon chairs are gonna need some wheels now. At the rate the PSO ones go, you'll see all of 1 city in maybe...oh Idk...half a day? LOL

Sev
Jun 9, 2006, 01:04 PM
Are they even going to have Photon Chairs? I assumed they wouldn't, since you can sit on things like benches and chairs at shops. I don't know what else you can sit on.

OdinTyler
Jun 9, 2006, 03:46 PM
Nah, I think those chairs are very much a thing of the past. Sitting on park benches is the sort of thing that makes you feel like you're in Central Park or something. LOL Also, there's the animation where you can sit on the floor, so you don't even need furniture. I want to know if you can REALLY interact in your room. Not just go in, walk around & decorate. There's a bed there too. Can you actually get in & take a nap? Can you see yourself hanging items up or ripping them off the walls? Lil details like that I'd love to see.

Wait, I can just see it now. These damn cities are so huge, I can see relay races happening. LOL I hated those in school, but, in PSU could be alot of fun.

Oh & beware that blue furred beast sitting in the corner of your local Moatoobian pub. He's grabbing a brew before he's off to war again. It might just be me... http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

I've seen screenshots of people laying on beds and sitting in chairs and whatnot. I'm sure they'll be rare MyRoom items that have pretty cool animations that go with them.

OdinTyler
Jun 9, 2006, 03:56 PM
So you CAN lay on the bed? They look like they have comforters or something on them. Guess you can't really INteract with it huh? LOL Oh well. If I get to hang up trophies of fallen enemies on my walls, I want to see my char mop up the trails of blood that get left behind on my new floors (or is that asking too much?) LMAO

OdinTyler's room would be a very scary place. Not child friendly at all.

well they confirmed you can sit on your bed, on the floor, and chairs and benches in the city.

I remember when I hung out at the onsen for like 20 minutes during the beta. It was indeed very fun to just sit there and relax. I am sure that I will be spending even greater times at places like the onsen because we wont be limited to certain hours a day for PSU.

As for "Did anyone spend time on PSO in lobbies etc?"
You couldn't, really after a few months anyway because of FSOD RSOD and BSOD. Some moron would be by to knock you off about every 2 minutes with the way they ran things GCPSO was better, but not by a whole lot.

The DCPSO lobbies were 'cozy' in realtors' terms, but they got the job done. You saw everyone, met up and went down to the surface. There were enough of them that if you wanted privacy, you could have it by going up a few blocks.

GCPSO intro'd soccer lobbies, which didn't work and got the nickname LagLag Ball, instead of gogo ball. For a good reason. They were also waaaay huge meaning you got pop-in and had to waste time running all over looking to actually see who you were talking to, unless everyone clustered into.....the space the size of a DCPSO lobby! Big shock.

You can see that CARD ones are based off of DCPSO rather then GCPSO's normal ones with the bridge you stand on when AFK and broadcasting the illustrated guide to sex with sheep, or clogging the server with dancing or AutoSwear. (tm)

The PSU ones aren't a lobby, which pretty much solves everything. You can't FSOD them, an they actually serve as your transport as you run around and take elevators and things. I was on the beta, and the only dangers I can see are

-If there's not a lot of people on, or there's too many ships available or something else that spreads people out...they will look MAD SPARSE. Serious ghost-town time, and they'll be nothing but a long empty drag of a run you don't want to make.

-They may be too large, realistic, yes, but how long does it take you to get from A to B? Because you'll be doing it billions of times in your career.

-You may need to make a game to get privacy now, because evesdropping looks easy. Not a biggie really, you always had to do it anyway to avoid fsod, but now if you met someone in the cafe, you'd have to run yourself about 4 miles to the guardians thing if you wanted to set something up.

These are not at all major issues, and this city thing looks WAY better then lobbies. It will be most exciting to see how they play out!

That's a little bit sad when you have to find a rare bed in order to lie down.

I wonder what would happen if real life was like that...

Go Go Ball was introduced in PSO Version 2 for DC, actually.

LMAO

"War is hell, son."

Anyway, since I'm going to have a few chars, each char's room will reflect the personality of the char. I make jokes & all, but, unless we get actual confirmation that you can hang 'trophies' in your room, mine will seem to be normal. As it stands my HUmarl/FOmarl (whatever you want to call her) main will have a very traditional Japanese room (being that she's a samurai lord...er...lady & all) & will serve as our guild's hall (so it must be clean, neat & official). My beast's room will be that of a warrior so if we get swords or something that shouts out "HUNTER!" it will be something to that effect. If anything, the 'child-not-friendly' room would be that one. LOL

Are they even going to have Photon Chairs?
hope not they were slow and they should make little vehichiles like a bicycle type thing to ride in the city

-Klaus-
Jun 12, 2006, 02:38 PM
No, I don't think so. Remember how Photon Chairs were kinda "made" out of your ID color? Well, they did away with ID's so... my guess would be yes, they did away with photon chairs.

Saner

photon chairs were too silly anyways. natural benches and chairs are much cooler. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

well it's kind of like a mall, sometimes there is a lot of people and sometimes few, but it's still fun to travel through it all. I mean it's more natural and home-like than those 'prison block' lobbies PSO had. so it really doesn't matter about sparsing or occasions where there is no one around.

-They may be too large, realistic, yes, but how long does it take you to get from A to B? Because you'll be doing it billions of times in your career.

come now, it's best to appreciate such natural and large cities, don't be so lazy to go from point A to point B in a city, no matter how 'far' it is. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

people do this all the time in MMORPG towns and they don't complain.

it's BETTER than a town feeling too small. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I usually sit down in cities and talk to people. In PSO I would spend countless hours in the lobby just talking to random people, doing random stuff, using emotes, making little slide shows with those icon things they had. I hope there is people around in the cities because I'll get lonely by myself. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

dont worry there will be people in the cities cause the cities are the homebases people must always visit before they can go to a mission.

well yeah missions now have some outposts inbetween areas I think, but they still have to return to the city at some point. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

not only that, the cities are the central core for shopping, and meeting people so ya they will be populated here and there. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

The city setup thing looks like its going to be more of a social matter than a game play matter. i cant remember who wrote it but he said " PSU blind date". You are going to have more people talking than playing. Not like thats bad but come on its a game not a dating service. One more comment. The city instead of a loby is FRICKEN SWEET!!!. But again they should only have at the most 3 citys " Or major ghost townage".

Each city can hold up to 1000 players right?
I wonder what that 3001st player will be thinking when he cant go anyware http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

seriously are there really going to be that many poeple playin at once? no. the game cube dident even have that many people at once for all 2 games combine ep3, ep 1&2. even for the pc there wasnt that many people. and if there is they should make an expansion disc like they did for the dc version ep1&2 plus.

PSU Plus http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Besides, if the number of players gets higher than the ability for the cities to contain them, SEGA will either create another city, multiples of each city, or some other way to distribute players.
