um um does anyone know if the Xbox360 version will have a "Gametag tracing" system?

because all Xbox360 games I know can let you see all online players you meet can see each others Gamertags to give them feedbacks, invites, complaints, messages, etc. etc.!

if I get it for Xbox360 I don't want fwends to bother me or even strangers to check my Gamertag online.

basically I wanna be anonymous on PSU since if a fwend finds me online on PSU then it's like "why aren't you using headset like in the other games?" or "come party". lol.

I just don't want to play PSU with headset, with shooters it's fine but an online RPG it's a different story.

This gets worse if X360 is unlinked and therefore 'everyone' will be using headset, which is irritating.

and even worse getting invites and messages from fwends while playing PSU. Leave me alone lol! I wanna meet and play with new people without them referencing me by my GamerTag or whatever. lol http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

and even if X360 is linked, if GamerTags can still be traced by just targeting/whatever their name and bringing up their gamertag to fill my message box with needless nonsense and invites, that will be kind of annoying since I don't wanna have to bring up the guide menu at all while playing online. (only when playing PS music or returning to the dashboard. )

ya my fwends online are nice but kinda stupid so I want to start fresh when I play PSU online without any interruptions or people recognizing who I am in the general Xbox360 games I play.

cause if they do find me on PSU it will be like, "what-everrrr".

but anyways ya I would only get Xbox360 version if it's linked to the other systems, cause there is little hope most X360 gamers would use a keyboard instead. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I just love text bubbles (and anyways my headset is broke and I'm not gonna pay for another one when this one didn't even last 4 months! My powerboard has lasted for YEARS!) http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

but ya I definitely won't get X360 version if it has that dumb online connection/account requirement to play offline story or Extra mode.

well I already have a Live account but still, it's still unclear what direction they will go with this version.

oh yeah...and anyways it looks like the Xbox360 version is coming LATER from the other two versions, since even the latest trailers don't mention the system. so yeah, depending on how it turns out, I may just save myself the trouble and just get PS2 version.

All xbox 360 games have the ability to appear offline or hide your connection.

oh? well that solves one problem. lol I never messed with the 'busy' or online status features to notice.

maybe concerned I might slip and accidentally apply a parental code or something. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

Lol your straightforwardness amazes me.

Oh and as for the internet requirement for offline/story mode...a guy working for GAME magazine took questions for us to ask Takao Miyoshi, and one of them was about this required connection thing. You'll probably be finding out soon (although considering as how many XBOX users have XBOX live, it might be required http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif PS2 might be a different story since virutally no one plays online with it)

lol okay! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

but um I think more people play PS2 online that people realize. well of course not as much as PC but still very strong.

but since has no strings attached, most PS2 online games are completely free to play online. and FF11 was a huge success for PS2 during its first years and still pretty strong now.

so the PS2 online userbase is quite huge, I'd say even more so than Dreamcast and Gamecube and Xbox.

Well since Xbox Live Silver is completly free, I dont really see the problem with having to have a live account of some sort. You can still play PSU or even FFXI on the 360 with just a silver membership, so long as you are paying the dues for each game. Unless you dont have an ethernet connection. In which case, well, you'll be missing about 70% of whats so damn great about the 360.
And about starting fresh with friends on PSU, yeah I know the feeling. I've got about 80 friends on Live that I mostly met in PSO. I'd only be able to tell about 20 of them from Adam nowadays. So I guess its time for me to clear out the ol' friends list before PSU comes out. Hmmm, too bad Live doesnt just have an "aquaintance" list I could bump them down too, since I at least know that none of them are pricks. And that way, we could meet again someday without having to be "friends", just people who knew each other back when, kinda like people from highschool.
I did know a few people that did not use voice chat on PSOX, and I had a keyboard for just such an occasion. But mostly, having no voice chat is a bit of a stigma in any Live game. I actually lost my voice to sickness the first 2 weeks PSOX was released, so I know how hard it can be.
Otherwise, I'm totally sold on voicechat, myself. I've never laughed so hard as when I would be chilling with my guildmates and telling dirty jokes in the middle of a boss fight. And its really hard to do a good Mojo Jojo impression on a keyboard. And for the most part, so long as I steared clear of (cr)Apatite 01, I would never have to deal with irate screaming weirdos.

I recently subscribed to Gold status on LIVE, for $50.00 a year extra MMO fees don't seem as bad. Not too sure on how they'll do it on X360, however, I do hope that the servers are linked. Not only for the interaction with other players from different consoles, but just for the freedom to move to PC and/or PS2 if wanted.

I enjoy having that freedom with FFXI; PS2, PC and X360 =).

Does it come down to
Being linked : no voicechat
Unlinked : voice chat

I think its a tough choice, I do want voice chat.
Anyway Xbox live gives us more options not less for the 360

I'm guessing when you play PSU, people in-game will only be able to see your Sega account and not your Gamertag, kind of like in FFXI. That's assuming they use a similar system as Square-Enix used.

I'm shy, so I wouldn't use voice chat with strangers >_>; I was actually kinda annoyed in the XB version of PSO since I didn't have the keyboard adapter and the date had passed and they weren't issuing any new adapters anymore. Plus everyone used voice chat and as soon as my friend stopped playing psox I also stop and I only play it offline now. My'phobia' for voice chat also comes from the fact no one would understand me when I spoke in XBL >_>;; plus in a team of 6 ppl >___>;;; I'm still in favor for connectivity to the PS2/PC servers http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif Now that I think of it, they should make a 'ship/server' exclusive to the user of each version, one for pc, another for ps2 and another for 360 players when they want to play with ppl using the same console? >_>;;

Remember that in PSOX people had to have XBL to play it, so voice chat came natural at that point but if PSU were not to require XBL Gold, a lot of people would just use Silver and use a keyboard since Silver does not have any option for voice chat.

"Silver does not have any option for voice chat."

How do you know that? I havent seen that anywhere.

Apparentlly I was wrong and Silver does support voice chat >> http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/features/silverage.htm >> "Voice chat, text messaging, and Friends Lists are ready to go—"

BUT

Link with information on Xbox Live Gold >> http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/features/goodasgold.htm >> "Chat with more than one person at a time."

So multiple person voice chat is not possible with silver it seems . _ .; especially if its like FFXI where u must start a voice chat appart from the game if u want to use voice chat with your team members.

More information on chatting when not using the game:
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/livefeatures/chat.htm >> "The Xbox 360 console can accommodate up to four separate but simultaneous one-on-one chats across four chat channels, in addition to "public" in-game communication for an Xbox Live–enabled multiplayer game."

wtf, 4 simultaneous chats but separate, in other words you must switch between them to speak to each one individually... fantastic >_>;; [sarcasm] Amazingly, it would work perfectly with me since I'd only like to talk to one of my friends I play PSO with http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Ugh. I'm not buying the 360 version. However, if the servers are linked, hook me up, man.

I think they should just screw voice chat and let all the systems (pc,ps2,360) play together. you all know that we could do that if voice chat wasent brought up. And besides the only people tha usually use it are anoying little kids that just sit there and scream, swear, and do stupid things.

Everyone uses voice chat on xbox live, its just part of the Live experience. Annoying kids are on Halo 2 and Rainbow Six, they usually stick to the FPS games for the original xbox, I've never heard any annoying kids on the xbox360 games. Everyone I've met on xbox360 games pretty much lays off the trash talk and whining.

not everyone uses headset chat on X360 lol.

I often see some people without headset, half of my friends list don't have heaadset, and not just the foreigners. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

the thing is, I don't have FF11 for Xbox360 so I don't know how they cope with the communication differences.

do they isolate themselves and voicechat among themselves or do they actually get off their lazy behinds and get a keyboard?

On FFXI voice chat is disabled so we are forced to use keyboard.

Doesn't really bother me if I'm forced to use the headset or not. The only time I usually even do headset chats or chat over a mic on PC is when we need a bit more organization for boss monsters etc.. on various mmos. Besides that, I don't really see the need to have voice enabled in PSU. It'll just make things a lot more annoying in my opinion. I don't really think voicechat belong in MMORPGs at the time until they make a mmo where its functions would be dependant on it.

I loved xbox pso simply cause of the Mic because there were so many things your missing out if you dont have it... i woudlnt wanna play PSU any other way im sick of playing mmorpgs on the PC that dont support or have a need for a chat system which they dont offer *cough* wow/guild wars
So you have to go out of your way and get teamspeak/vent etc in order to actually make the game enjoyable

They should make voice chat optional for all systems. Maybe have a special version of the game for each system that comes bundled with a mic. Anyways, I would rather have the servers linked than seperate. Sure, I use voice chat to screw around with my friends but thats why they have private chat i guess.
