View Full Version : The truth about Millennium

It turns out that I had known who owned Millennium the whole time but didn't realize it. I thought it was someone else that had made Millennium than one of my Japanese friends, but I was wrong.
Millenium is a bot created by someone named Clara (not Carla). Well, that's his nickname - he is a man. For entirely different reasons, we cracked, independently, the encryption algorithm used on the Dreamcast and PC versions of PSO. We did not meet until a month ago.
Using his knowledge, he created the bot called Millennium G200. The name comes from the Matrox video card http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
The bot monitors the rooms it's in for users who FSOD the lobby. Since it is not a standard PSO client, it's not subject to the bugs of the real client. Lobby freeze is just a normal packet to it, and it can easily tell when someone is trying to freeze the lobby.
If you ask it "fsod?" in the lobby, it will tell you who last FSOD'd that lobby. If you ask, "What time is it?", it'll tell you the time. There are other things it does, like log every chat message to his computer.
When someone FSODs a lobby, the bot goes into ban mode. Because it's not run by Sonic Team, it cannot actually ban the offending user. However, it can do things to keep the user offline. Whenever it sees that user come back, it will immediately disconnect them.
The reason it won't respond in Japan is it's programmed to understand the same questions in Japanese.

any plans to throw her into the Gamecube and XBOX versions?

10-20-2002, 08:18 PM
Would there be a need to if we have the "fixed" version? not yet anyhow.
Not cool. Firstly, Millenium is now an illegal program, achieved through illegal means. Sure, 'banning' hackers is cool, but do the ends really justify the means? Secondly, what's to stop this Clara from turning the bot on you, and 'banning' you?
Sorry. You're either for hacking, or against it. And this is as hacked up as it gets.

Maybe we should send the idea to Sonic Team. Of course, they've probably already thought of it. If not, it might just be the cure to cheating that we all hope for. If Sonic Team can use this idea and style in a new security system, people would probably think twice before cheating online.

Sure would be fun to have some no life hacker playing GOD with the future of PSO.
And when i say "no life" i mean NO LIFE!
Spending all this time to crack a console game, wow that sure is impressive.
Go crack Anarchy Online or EQ.
I think that would prove to be more of a "challenge" to these guys, but they can't do it so they come to games that aren't monitored at all where theyre free to roam and screw with the natural order of things.
Bottom line: Milleneum = the sux.

I think Wobba wants proof that this guy owns Millenium. He actually raises a good point.

Hey! if some one wants to fight the good fight against hacking, I say let them! Sega isn't doing it anymore. The last time i saw any effort by sega to stop hacking was way back in ver.1. Sure, he COULD ban or fsod you, but other 12 years old losers with no life do that already because it gives them a sense of "power". So let the computer nerds run free. It really doesn't matter, people who have that much free time on hand will hack because they can. No reason rag on his guy because your pissed at other people. He gets five cool points added to his score.

Barubary started out as "cool" here with most people for her lame character convert code. And then everyone who supported her turned on her when she released other PSO codes.
Anyhow, you support one hack, you support em all. Bottom line.

Oh, and theres a huge damn difference between codes like "Unlock all stages offline", and others like FSOD and NOL. Sticking everything to the levels of attacking other players is pretty shallow, since there are actually useful ones, even from a legit point of view

The human-experimentations performed by the Nazis in WW2 can also be viewed as useful, but that didn't make them right.
And yes, sometimes you've got to fight fire with fire. But anytime that you play with fire you end up getting burned.

thanks for the info barubary6 (i'll think twice when i'm chatting with her around because of that chat-logging)
some questions:
what happens when you send her your guildcard?
why does she wear a forceweapon (forgot... laconium maybe...)? and why devilwings?
she once walked (towards me... *got scared*) - is this by script or does the clara-guy control her sometimes?
its obvious she has a japanese origin (according to the chatsymbol she uses ^_^)
i think the whole millenium-thing is a good idea - sure this is without sonic teams 'ok', but they should think about offering that clara-guy to work for them. then they can monitor his actions.
he does more for the fsod-prevention then they do.

but you have a talent (natural or socially caused) for cute symbolchat ^_^
edit: and i forgot to mention in the first post that she understands japanese and answering a question like (i'm guessing here) 'lets have some tea, shall we?' with a cute (noncopied) chatsymbol... well... ^_^;

Well, you don't think well.
Unless of course you say to people that loose hard earned items, then entire chars with thousand hours logged to incompetent ST programming, bad design decisions, and a herd of immature cheat-using morons, that it's all part of the fun in this game.
The hacking from Barubary became a mess because he released his codes.
If Millenium's coder doesn't release anything, there shouldn't be such problems.

One littler cracker shouldn't have this kind of power. And anyone who supports them is tightening the noose around their own neck.
Personally I'd like to hope that Sega is just logging IP's, hours, and data right now so that they can take this 'Clara' to court.

Good point. One thing though, item modding is a very annoying code, for many people. It really messes up the game IMO. Would you prefer the game with or without that code?

Has any lobby FSODer been tracked then banned by Sega ?

Good point. One thing though, item modding is a very annoying code, for many people. It really messes up the game IMO. Would you prefer the game with or without that code?
For v1, without.
Item modding/duping ruins the whole find system that guarantees every ID finds something interesting, something you can trade to others.
For v2, mixed feelings.
Rares are so scarce it's crazy. And v1 weaps magically become totally useless in ulti mode, hence making the low finding rate for rare even more painful.
Otoh, since I only found a ring as a good v2 rare, I guess I don't have much to loose to not having a code, lol.
So no code either.
For GC, I'm totally depressed of hearing of the dupe bug. Finally we were going to have a PSO with more intelligent rare rate and playable ultimate mode.
And here ST screws up royally with that bug, and then hasn't got the balls to recall the product after only one week of sales.

Why? What makes you so sure he isn't? He's lied plenty of times before and this isn't just an GS/Exploder hex change, it's hacking a server and infesting it with a police bot. Only Sega could have created Millenium and until an announcement is made by them I won't believe any other story... unless some actual proof was present.
My cousin coded Millenium! Not a hard thing to say, is it? Proving it is something else though.

About the same as the cheaters that PK, CK, NOL you.
The underlying problem is that of vigilantes.
Civilians that take into their hands the public safety. With all risks involved.
In our context, there is no more sheriff in town.
He has left us long ago.
Software obtained through unsanctioned reverse engineering is illegal software.
Reverse engineering is LEGAL. At least on this side of the Atlantic. No moronic, tailored-for-greedy-corporations DMCA here.

excuse me ?
Why do you think you have to crack SEGA's servers for Millenium to exist ?
Hook your DC to a PC, watch and examine the packets of information exchanged between your console and the server.
Once you understand the protocol, have your PC itself send the right packets. et voilą.
No need to get intrusive on the servers.

The main problem is this. These guys crack the code and say it's for fun or a learning experience. OK thats good and fine. But baruby had to submitt his info to everone else knowing full and well this was going to fall in the wrong hands.
He might not be responible for people being lame and using his codes for the wrong reasons. Buts that like giving a known suicidal man a gun. Him killing him self then, you say "Well he would have got a gun some how even if I didn't give it to him." Don't be part of the damn problem though. It does amke a freakin difference.
But Baruby doesn't care. He lives to destroy this game in anyway he can. If he really wanted to get ST to get there act together. He would show them the majors issues and advise on solutions. Think about it. If Baruby was head of online security for PSO it would work out great. But thats wishful thinking.

That's why things should be ok if Millenium's creator keeps his findings for his lone self and doesn't spread them out.

It's still a power that can be abused since it was created by a means of hacking/cracking. Sonic would be better to adopt it and would be able to do things such as permanently ban people.
The only one reason I believe cheating won't be as bad in the GC version, is because all users on ther server will be paying for the service. Opposed to there being Non paying V1 and paying V2.
From my experience V1 user are most commonly the ones who PK,NOL CK and whatever.
I bet if ST seperated V1 from V2 users now. Most cheating would cease on V2(not all but most.)
Well what do you know? The hackers actually did something good to PSO.

not every one who uses cheat codes is a moron, and i've never been fsod'd by another player. although i lost a lvl 89 ranger and a lvl 100 force to the servers. and i know i wasnt another player because there was only 1 other player in the pass protected room and he was sitting in the next room at my house.
on the side of that i've been bsod'd fsod'd dsod'd over 80 times and my friends who had gamesharks where the only one's who helped no one else would even think about it, they didnt waht to wast any time in the easy rooms after they made it to v.hard.
