View Full Version : Double Claws will be soo kewl

hmmm. I wonder if you must use a single weapon before you can use the dual wield version of it?

but then again dual-wielding ia a double edged sword.

one-handed can use an alternate weapon type, while dual wielding offers double the strikes.

so most likely we can use dual-wield right from the start since they seem to count as an independant weapon style.

besides once the beta released dual sabers and stuff like that, people were able to use them right away.
And knuckles are automatically dual-wield style, so it looks like there is no requirements to go for the dual wielding right away. ^_^

http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/burger.gif but on a side note, did the beta hint at WEAPON SHOP AVAILABILY?

As in, the weapons that were allowed, were they all accessible/buyable right away?

cause I remember back then in PSO, the weapon shop selection was very limited until rised in level or maybe it was random, cause Mechguns and Claws and Slicers were really tough to find even in shops back then.

you most likely had to find them in a dungeon, relying on chance.

hopefully the final version has shops that have a complete and accessible selection of all weapon types so people can choose to 'career' using specific desired weapons their class allows. (of course this does not count rares)

although there might be a chance that shop selection is based on your level or randomness and the only things available may be saber, handgun, etc.

but at least shops and drops no longer have to be fully depended on for photon colors, since we can synthesize those. plus the colors are elemental based now.

so ya 2x claws will be really cool! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

hopefully they are not slower than knuckles, the knuckles appear to strike pretty fast, claws might strike slower than knuckles, but extra power would make up for it. plus its Photon Arts could be pretty exciting to use too!

Dual-Claws will be an independent weapon type. You will not have to "master" the single-claw first.

As for weapons availability, you will not be able to use all of them at the start. For each weapon type, you have a proficiency rating (C - S). If you are currently at C on Swords, you can only use C-level Swords. It is currently unknown how you'll raise your proficiency rating, but it will probably be tied to your job growth.

oh ya I'm sure we can't use ALL of the weapons in a category right from the start http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

but like say, for example, that you are level 1 and you go to the Weapon Shop.

will you see:

Lv. 1/Rank C
Axe
Cane
Cannon
Claw
Claws
Dagger
Daggers
Double Saber
Handgun
Handguns
Long Bow
Machine Gun
Rifle
Saber
Sabers
Shotgun
Spear
Staff
Sword

All listed and available for purchase right from the start and always?

Things are not quite as simple as portrayed in your example. For example, a level 1 Hunter might have a B-level proficiency with Dual-Daggers while a level 1 Force will have a C-level proficiency. So, the level 1 hunter will be able to use more powerful Dual-Daggers at the outset. Also, no class will be able to use every weapon at the start. So, buying a C-level Rifle for your level 1 hunter won't do much good unless you switch to being a Ranger.

As for what weapons you'll be able to buy from the outset, we don't know for sure what will be available in the shops. Several of the weapon classes were not available in closed beta, so they were not being sold in the shops. We do know that the shops on different planets will have different inventories.

Another complicating factor to keep in mind are the varous weapon manufacturers. Each weapons maker has its own strengths. For example, the weapons from one company may have more ATP than others, but have lower PP.

Cool, yes. Practical? I'm not really sure anymore.

I'm only saying this because I thought the same thing about Twin Sabers and Twin Daggers during the beta. Their usefulness depends on the class and the monster you're fighting. Why? Because a normal saber/dagger of the same class has a higher attack power. What this leads to is this question: Just how much damage are you really going to do?

To elaborate: both are fairly solid weapon types; Twin sabers have less attack power but hits 5 times (Twin daggers 7 times). One handed blades have more power, hit less times, but you can also dual-equip with a handgun. When fighting higher defense monsters, twin blades will do far less damage than a single blade will. It's almost to the point of suck if you are a Newman Hunter (Like I was).

You can sort of remedy this by using attack units, but even then you're still facing the same situation. It's not as bad for a beast though, since the base attack of one would most likely break past the defenses of any monster.

That in mind, I'm pretty sure double claws are going to suffer the same fate.

Nice to hear that they're using a different method to unlocking more powerful weapons. Now those cheap bastards can't use uber powerful weapons at Level 1 anymore http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

i'll be dual wielding claws as well, (heart of poumn was my all time favorite in PSO). From what i hear about the new weapon lvling system, it sounds good.

i am very excited...

after reading this it will be interesting if you are limited in the amount of times you can increase weapon grades. like what if you can only have A class in 1 or two weapon types. this would actually give a reason to have two characters of the same class. also what lyrise said about dual weilding versus single weilding sounds very similar tot he weapon system in valkyrie profile.

I see.

well the balancing of single wielding vs. dual wielding gives shops even more reason to have all types (at least of the lowest weapon-rank) available,

so players have the option to just buy the type of weapons they want to wield vs. what's better. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

hmm, how DID yuo increase your proficiency with a weapon class? Did they even have this possibilty in the beta? I'm either guessing you had to just USE the weapon type a lot, or you could buy it in a store like for techs. Also:

I like this idea a lot actually. It would suck if you could master EVERYTHING with one character, because then everyone of the same calss would be usuing the same weapons. I think speciallizing like this would work better. Maybe they should have it where they only get, say 15 weapon class levels with one character. So you'd end up with a character with something like this:

Kratos (Hunewm)
Saber - B (2 points used)
Claws - C (2 points used)
Sword - C (1 point used)
Spear - A (3 points used)
Axe - S (4 points used)
Handgun - B (A, but reduced by being in the hunter Class) (3 points used)

I would personally hate that idea. It would force people to stick with a single weapon type to keep themselves from getting gimped instead of mixing things up depending on the situation / monster like you're suppose to.

It's like in real life, you wouldn't have any restrictions as to how good you could learn how to use a weapon right? In real life, you could learn how to use any weapon to proficiency as long as you trained hard enough. If you became an expert sniper in real life, who's to say that you couldn't also become an expert swordsman or an expert martial artist as well?

ya do to the independant balancing, it's most likely gonna have shops offer all categories of weapons and people can simply get what they like. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

instead of "ohhh I start with this green saber. any slicers in the shop? any claws? no? confound it. I'll probably find them in a box or something after 50 hours of gameplay." http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I really like that... becuase although it felt good to finally get claws after forever in PSO, you couldn't dual wield them, and it'd be nice to choose to use them from the start. Which is what I shall do. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

I think it's sweet they even have dual-wielding at all. It's almost a throwback to the old PS RPGs. I also like how the usefulness depends on what you're fighting. Numerous, weak enemies would get mopped up while you could switch to single-weapon for tougher opponents and bosses. An interesting dynamic, and one that I hope works well.

Knives are for stabbing. Stabbing is good. So knives have to count.

It would actually be nice if you had to specialize a bit. Say you specialized 3 weapons. That's 1 Dual Type, 1 Single Type, and 1 Area of Effect Type right? Not as bad as it sounds really. I just know people that would never use... Say a Spear, so why waste any points toward it. It's true that you can be a sniper and a martial arts master, but it also takes a strong mind to be able to grasp many concepts well anyway. The human mind isn't limitless, so it also pushes information out if it has too, so comparing it to an RL situation doesn't really stand. Especially when you think of the fact that you don't master sniping or martial arts that easily.

Of course, that's just me wanting to reply to something interesting I saw posted. Sorry, I'm just like that. Can I have a Claw and a Knuckle? Slice something to pieces, and dent the remaining parts? That'd be fun AND funny.

Saner
Jul 2, 2006, 01:06 PM
no you can have a claw and knuckle together.

it's like how you can't have a dagger and a claw together.

or a knuckle and a dagger together.

or a saber and knuckle.

And this is mainly due to the fact that knuckles are always dual-wielded. there is no such thing as single knuckle.

beside claws and knuckles are used so differently, you might as well use 2 knuckles or 2 claws.
