Well, if the truth be known, i only really bought PSO on release date for the Sonic Adventure 2 demo. I was going to get PSO, just not that soon. So i was wondering why everyone else bought PSO. Probably didnt put enough options down there, but thats what the 'Other' is for.

Me too...

My friend was trying to persuade me to buy by telling me things about the game, it sounded crappy to me. Then he mentioned the SA2 demo... I asked him to let me borrow it, but noooo. The bastard wouldn't let me, so I just bought PSO.

I got into it it because my brother had it, and I played his game all the time. Then he got a night shift job and i could never play it (cause he'd be asleep)...so I got my own copy.

I was waiting for a new Phantasy Star title since '94. I waited seven years for this title, so I would buy any new game that had the words "Phantasy Star" in the title.

2 things in fact.

_I had a pirate copy of the game (DC silver from singapore)
Means I was actually able to see and try the game.

_Local import shop showed me it was possible to play online in our remote isolated island.

Then followed 6 month of about $250/month phone bills, lol.

I was a phantasy star fan from the old RPG style one on the sega genisis. I can still remember Nei and her cutters. Wren the android in the next sequal in the series with his nasty shotguns. Its always been a cool series. PSO is just the latest.

I never played RPG's, so when I bought my DC, I wanted to check one out. I was also looking to put my DC's online ability to good use. PSO fit both of those pretty well, except that it wasn't very much of an RPG. And here I am. Wheeeeeeee.

One of my friends from a Zelda board demanded that I get it, and it looked good, and I'm completely deprived of online RPGs due to my mac-using habits, so... I decided to try it out.

I'm glad I did ;3

I got it because I wanted to see what playing my DC online would be like, and it seemed VERY interesting.....for one month all I could think about was getting it....

Well I was already familier with the Phantasy Star series from long time past but was alittle put off by the new PSO by the repeditive hack & slashing, dungeon crawling aspect of the game. But one day I found out that the new PSO had just been released in Japan and decided to go down to my local import store to check it out. When I got there I found out that they were able to pirate the game and were selling each copy for 15 bucks. I then thought to my self, "Hell, why not?", and took home a copy. After playing for a while I thought the game was alright but got bored rather quickly; mainly because I was only able to play offline. Soon after the American release had past, me and another friends decided to get everything we needed and play the game online this time. Since then I've been hooked. Gah, 9 more days...

I bought it for the sole purpose of getting online. Despite what I expected, offline play was good too.

I played previous Phatasy Stars before but never completed them (lack of a genesis)I was reading about it on IGN and how it would be multiplayer. I thought online action RPG with team work sound kewl. So I watch all the movies IGN had on it, I was sold reserved my copy of it and the keyboard. Now i'm hooked. And miss being able to play with legit people.

I was talking to a real life friend and he was talking about a game called Phantasy Star Online, he suggested it to me since I just got a DC and that we could play together. After 30 minutes of setting up the free ISPs and stuff, I went out the next day and bought it. But I had one of those problems that a few people had, the game not booting up, etc. But I finally got it to work, and was hooked ever since.

It was a mix of reasons. I read previews and maybe the review in EGM. In one issue there was a section of maybe 3 or 4 pages giving a basic understanding of the game and such, and that sparked my interest. On top of that I had never played an online game before. Also my wife was a factor. I was debating within the store to get it or not, then she told me, "Will you just get the damn thing!" Within the next few days PSO had taken over my life that lasted for about a year.

I'd never played any of the previous Phantasy Star games. I had a PS1, but my sister had a DC at home (I was at college). I played Sonic Adventure on the DC and liked it. I'd been getting EGM and a few other game magazines. I'd read a couple previews/reviews, seen the advertisements. Sounded interesting. I was in the mood to buy a game, and saw it in Target. It was a little bit of an impulse buy, cause I wasn't sure quite what I'd be getting. But I played it the next time I was home. It pretty much sold me on the Dreamcast.

Larkin and I had heard about it in magazines and stuff, but we waffled around when it came to actually buying it. A couple months after it was out, he bought it on a whim for both of us. We've been hooked ever since!

Edit: Oh yeah, Larkin's guild card used to read, "I bought PSO for the Sonic Adventure 2 demo!"

Once upon a time i was sitting at a basketball game with my good friend Rick(Dangerous55), while he starting ranting about this "PSO"
Me, not having a dreamcast, became enthralled and thought to my little ol self, Hey, maybe i should buy a dreamcast

The next day in Study hall, which was in the computer room, i took to the net and bid on a dreamcast.

In a week or so, i came home to see a large box on my porch, and yes, it was the dc

After i hooked it up and tested out the games that came with it, i took to the mall and purchased myself PSO

After several hours of struggling with my ISP and getting it online, i finally connected and Rick hooked me up with a mighty fine, well we thought they were mighty fine, assortment of sabres and various low level swords.
And thats my story...

Couple reasons:

A) I love anything to do with RPGs.
B) I read previews WAY before it was here.
C) Since video games are the way I make my living, I feel that it's my "duty" to play as many releases as I possibly can. (Needless to say...I'm busy as hell these days.)
D) A whole bunch of my good friends and customers were eager to play as a group online.
E) I wanted to play in an environment with 133t 12-yr-old ev0l0r haX0rz. =)

to buy it for the sonic demo is depressing... played the previous phantasy stars, and they owned. so i knew PSO would PWNT. and it did, does, and will own again.

Back in the day, I bought a genesis for PS2. 12 or so years later, I bought a Dreamcast for PS0.

I was salivating over this game from the minute it was rumored to be in development, in part because of the nostalgia factor but also because the whole MMORPG setup looked pretty sweet.

Well, I was one of those rabid, mentally deranged PSO fans you only hear about when they pass out from lack of food and sleep in front of their DC. I was following the game since the summer of 2000 when I read about it in the ODCM. I bought it on launch day, late january sometime (the 28th?) And played nearly nonstop.

I hit level 100 around 5:50pm, February 17th...as far as *I* know, I was the first lvl 100 in that game, and I'm quick to throw down that fact when pressed for proof of my PSO prowess. Hey, I'm a god folks, I don't make excuses!

As for WHY I bought it...well, I'd say the fact that I have all 4 PS games, and even a translated PS Adventure and PS Gaiden on my PC via, well, less-then-legal means, I'm the hardest of the hardcore PS fans.

(Listening to George throrogood's "Bad to the Bone")

I was dissapointed to see no mention of the profound darkness in the game though. Shame too, because the plotline of PSO contradicts everything in ps4. Ah well.

got a dc for x-mas 2000 and, being a rpg-fanatic, waited for grandia2, skies of arcadia and pso (which were released within 3 months, march to may 2001) because all three were rated very good in local magazines.
i went online the first time around 2 months after i got pso and was shivering from the never heard before lobby music and the thought that these charas i've seen are all controlled by real people ^_^
i was sporadically online a month, then took a break (cause i did not knew anyone...) and went back online around september.
from that on, the "online" in the title made sense again ^_^

Other... I was collecting the JP edition of every DC game. In fact my 1st PSO was JP V1 but I've never been able to play online with that version. Then I got US V1 and US V2.

Addicted! O_o

I bought the game because I thought it would be fun. Although I got a lot more than I bargained for during my PSO-PSOv.2 days. Can't wait to get on the GC version!
