View Full Version : Should they restore old levels? [Spoiler]

I'm thinking, should they make a "classic mode" for all the old stages? I think that would be a good idea. Mabye in an expansion or something. To be honest, I will miss the old ones, despite how flawed they were. For those of you who do not know what they were...

EPISODE I: (very much interesting throughout)

Stage 1: This level is a short and easy to complete forest. The enemies are easy, and the experience is cheap. It is straight foward and near the exit.

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/mori15.png

Stage 2: This level starts in a rainy forest, and eventually leads to a dome. Through the dome and on the way are tougher larger ape like enemies. Inside the dome is a dragon boss.

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/mori26.png

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/mori24.png

Stage 3: This level is an underground red hot cavern. Many locations are devided by lava rivers and even lava falls. This level is longer than both the previous two, and the two to come. One must also be careful of the pillars and the dragons.

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/cave13.png

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/cave14.png

Stage 4: This level is moist and filled with watefalls, rainbows, ferns, ponds, and even a few trees. This level is also made up of blue rocky passages. Bring plenty of antidotes as it easy to get poisoned by man eating plants.

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/cave24.png

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/cave21.png

Stage 5: This level appears to be part mine part cave. Present are crystals, metal pathways, lots of water, etc.... Mutant sharks come in three forms, and there are creatures that can attach and detach. At the end of this stage is a snake like boss inside what could be a sewer.

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/cave31.png

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/cave32.png

Stage 6: This level is a high-tech mine. Robots run wild, and the stage itself can be very repetative. This is the longest stage so far.

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/mine14.png

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/mine11.png

Stage 7: This is level is a deeper, older mine. This stage is very difficult and includes large machines capable of firing missles. This coarse also ends with a boss.

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/mine21.png

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/mine22.png

Stage 8: Before this level is accessable, all pillars in the previous stages must have been activated. This level is a ruin beneath the mine. It is the longest and most difficult of all levels so far.

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/ruins15.png

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/ruins14.png

Stage 9: This level appears to be the interior of a wrecked spaceship. Perhapse aliens crash landed here.

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/ruins23.png

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/ruins25.png

Stage X: This level is the final stage of the game. It appears to take place with in the body of a massive creature. At the end of this stage, you appear in a field of flowers, which eventually turns dead. Once this happens, you fight the final boss of the game.

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/ruins31.png

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/ruins35.png

EPISODE II: (first few stages are the worst in game)

Stage 1: This level takes place in a temple. The enemies appear to be from episode 1, but don't worry that'll change eventually.

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/temple13.png

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/temple12.png

Stage 2: Yawn! Its just like the previous stage but harder. Unlike the first, it at least ends with a boss.

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/temple21.png

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/temple23.png

Stage 3: A bit more interesting. This level has rooms with screens that emulate different levels from episode I. Unfortunately, it also has a repeat of episode 1 enemies.

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/space11.png

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/space13.png

Stage 4: An irratating stage, but it ends with another dragon boss at the end. This stage marks the last of the repeats of previous episode 1 enemies. Bosses of course, are unique.

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/space22.png

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/space21.png

Stage 5: The first four boring stages don't come without reward. This stage is a beautiful jungle. Plants can walk on hind legs, and the end of this map is a mini-boss. This level is devided between two sectors. The second one is short, brighter, and swift.

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/jungle1.png

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/jungle5.png

Stage 6: This stage is a beautiful mountain side. It is full of angry primates that spit lightning balls. At the end of the slopes is a difficult mini-boss.

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/mount4.png

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/mount3.png

Stage 7: Unlike the last six, this level is easy. It is on a tropical beach, and the hornets can be very irratating. The mini-boss should be easy to handle as well.

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/sea3.png

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/sea4.png

Stage 8: This level is a central control area. The stage itself is very short. However, it is extremely difficult, and the boss is no push over. One of the quests permits you to enter the interior of this stage.

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/cca1.png

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/cca5.png

Stage 9: This here is an underwater base. That means that many of the creatures here like water. Of course, there is quite a view of the sea.

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/seabed14.png

http://www.tomoart.com/pso/scene/seabed13.png

Stage 10: This place is a flooded sealab. Creatures here are often dark and mysterious. Some even shoot laser beems. At the end of this stage is the final boss of this sequal.

I've actually talked to my friends about this before, but I usually only mentioned just forest to be the one remade. It'd be cool tosee, just for nostalgia purposes, completely unrelated to story

I just think they should have a classic mode. They could remove Temple and Spaceship, and just reserve them for a classic battle mode (even with enemies). I think Cave, Mines, Ruins, Ragol Stages, Sealabs... should be kept somewhere. I am going to miss those levels afterall. The only levels I won't miss are Temple and Spaceship, which I despise. The rest of the levels, I envy.

ST might make an expansion although its unlikely and stick the levels in i mean its not like there gonna be that big by todays standards. Also i certainly wouldnt mind running through the ruins again for nostalgia's sake.

what about ep4... and I love seabed... most challenging place in the game

I like the idea of adding in the levels from PSO, but how would they be congruent with the story from PSU? I suppose they could excuse it by calling them "VR Missions", or placing them in a 'Shenmue' style Arcade in the city, or something like that. Maybe for 50 Meseta a play... http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

I would also be happy if they put in an episode 3-style game table, as well. ...let the flame-fest begin -_-

I would love to once again face Olga Flow in PSU.. that way I do not have to stop playing PSU for an hour to battle him:D

If I want to see the old levels, I'll just play PSO. I would rather Sonic Team put all of its effort into creating new content than rehashing old stuff. I've played all of those levels hundreds/thousands of times during my PSO career.

Ok this is NOT a flame-fest directed towards Pure-Chan lol, but I really don't like turn-table based games...http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif Too much guessing and not enough real-time action. But that's just my opinion.

Anyway, I don't think they should build classic versions of PSO levels, but I do think it would be nice to continue the plot of EP 1,2,3, and 4, since it was actually quite intriguing. My advice:
Make the Ruins in the Graal star system be remnants of the alien civilization that sent Dark Falz to Ragol http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif That would be interesting....at least for me.

I wouldn't be surprised if they remade at least the forest level sometime during PSU's lifetime.

Ibuka
Jun 30, 2006, 02:35 PM
I don't think they should... The PSU Characters would run over those classic stages and monsters...

Saner
Jun 30, 2006, 03:06 PM
Ragol is not in this new solar system so remakes of those levels wouldn't fit.

besides this game already has 'remakes' of your typical grasslands, forests, caverns, etc. except brand new.

if people wanna experience PSO levels again, they'll play PSO. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

the memory space is best used for new designed areas.

DizzyDi
Jun 30, 2006, 03:29 PM
Just because the forest area was in Ragol, doesn't mean there aren't forest areas in where-ever PSU takes place. If they did remake the classic levels, they'd obviously find some way to make it fit into the storyline, s'not like its hard.
"Theres some SEED in a nearby forest in Parum, we need you to take 'em out."
And they'd probably update the mosters and all that mess, so yeah.
Like I said...I wouldn't be surprised if they did at least the forest level sometime during PSU's lifetime.

PSU and PSO are different games. I would much rather see many new areas, new monsters, and have new adventures. Bringing back the old areas honestly just seems lazy to me.

I wouldn't want them to add old stuff in expense of the new. I was thinking in more of the lines of adding an update that has some "arcade" or "mission quests" that would enable one to enter Ragol. I know there are forests in this game. But there so far does not seem to be a jungle, volcano, cave, ruin, etc....

Oh yes they should. I would love to have a look feature like the dreamcast version of pso had. The fourth controler for those who do not remember.

Jun 30, 2006, 06:29 PM
VR remixes of at least some of the PSO levels would be very nice (and VR, while somewhat lame perhaps, would explain them easily in a storyline sense), but only if they're done right and modified just enough for them to be suitable in PSU while still being recognizable as PSO levels.

With that said, priority should be on new content, not rehashing old stuff, unless they can make it truly worth it.

Ibuka
Jun 30, 2006, 08:47 PM
Sonicteam would have to redo the PSO stages and give the monsters better AI to even make it some what fun.. Other wise it's gonna be like this...

Booma #1: Ok time to take out them Hunters again...
Booma #2: Yep here comes one of them.
Booma #3: Let's do it! *Left claw chop* *Righ claw chop*

*Booma Misses*

Booma #3: What the hell?
Booma #2: I can't hit him! He's too fast!
Booma #1: What the hell is he doing!?

Hunter: I'm Strifing baby!

Booma #2: Can he do that?
Booma #1: He shouldn't be able too..
Booma #3: But he is!

Hunter: Hehe, And you can't touch me silly Booma's... Not with the amazing fighting system!

Booma #3: He's right! He's running around and Strifing around us like we're nothing!
Booma #2: Oh lord! Theres 5 more of them coming!
Booma #1: What?! 5 more are coming?! I've seen up to 4 hunters a group but now 6!? What was sonicteam thinking? We don't stand a chance!
Booma #3: Whoa... What's that pretty light like colorful stuff there doing with there weapons?

Hunter: Photon Arts Baby!

Booma #3: So.. Pretty... *Goes to the light of the colorful Photon Art*
Booma #1: Booma number 3 No!!!!!!!!!!!

And that's why PSU shouldn't have PSO stages and monsters it... I think at least XD

I don't even care if it was for exp. Honestly I'd like having it in there just for kicks. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif Even if it was just Forest 1 and 2, I think it could be a fun nod to the past.

Think about it, after a few runs on the real game, you could walk down to the arcarde, load up a remixed mini-ep1 c mode with some friends, and win neat sega themed room decorations as prizes - maybe like capsule toys from Shenmue? Higher ranks could yeild prizes like a 1975 Agito to hang on your wall, or a master system, ...maybe even a plushie Sato...? Z0MG! <3 XD

"Classic mode" would be entertaining nonetheless, it doesn't even have to interfere with PSU's story could probably be a VR-like situation. I would most definately enjoy a classic mode, Sega can really take this MMO places by keeping the original player-base interested, so I expect to see a lot of exciting game modes in PSU eventually.

I've played all those levels to death in various incarntaions of PSO That's not to say that I would object if any of those levels returned in PSU. It's just that I would rather have Sonic Team concentrating on making new material instead of giving us another dosage of the same old same old.

If Sega decides to implement those ridiculous VR fields...than at least have them be classic levels. I will go on strike if the Temple/Spaceship make a return.

I think Ibuka pretty much sums up this whole thread, unless Sega wants to go through the trouble of making Boomas "stand a chance" against the new fight-system. And even if they wanted to...they shouldn't. Development time should be spent on making PSU more amazing instead of making a PSU-version-of-PSO.

In regards to level design...after 6 years of the same levels, I think it's due time new content is introduced. Now that's not saying that for 6 years this game hasn't kept us entertained, nor that the scenery was shabby (Gal Da Val island anyone?), but some new stuff needs to make an appearance.

ya. a beach like that episode II level would be pretty neat though.
(not a remake, a beach similiar to that, but of course same time of day, better looking and differently shaped/mapped. )

so location theme-wise there are a few things PSU can do that PSO offered.

Parma would be a great choice for beaches. ya, Neudaiz os more water/nature-themed but some of it seems to take place during the sunset, and that's not really my favorite time of day. lol. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif I prefer full sunny and beautiful clouds and stuff just like Parma city's outdoors time of day sort of thing.

I think they should make special missions online where you basically run through remade levels of PSO, you know fight PSU versions of the PSO bosses. But I think it should be an extra, not like a part of the main game.

But i wouldn't mind an Ep3 version of PSU but only as a side thing for lobbys.

Pretty much instead of Break. Endu. Klyria etc They should Ethen and his friends/bad guys and use PSU Monsters for the bad side and use PSU weapons for the good side.

Just a thought XD

I totally agree with the cameo thing. Just throw some of the old bosses in there, especially Olga Flow and that cyber dragon from ep II. (but make it 3 of them the whole time >:D)
Of course, unless such kinds of bosses are already in PSU and cameo battles simply wouldn't be necessary.

As much as I love PSO, I'm sick to death of it. If they want to recreate an area - how about one that hasn't been done in 3D already? Camineet? Paseo? Birth Valley?

But even then... no. If I want to see those areas, I'd prefer they be created in an all new game - an MMO which aligns with the original games. For PSU, though, I want as much new content as humanly possible.

Parn
Jul 12, 2006, 07:57 AM
I don't want any recycled content from PSO. I imported PSO when it came out Japan and have played every single incarnation of PSO across every platform since that day. I am sick of Forest 1. I am tired of killing Vol Opt.

So no, I don't want to see any "cameos" from PSO. I'll turn on PSO if I want to see De Rol Le again. Why anyone would want old content from a previous game is beyond me... that's like buying Final Fantasy X and expecting all the old towns and world from Final Fantasy IX in it... what's the point? Why not just go play Final Fantasy IX?

But, whatever.
