View Full Version : New (payment) system for Sega games, including PSU

Read this from the weekly newsletters Sega.co.jp sends me.

Starting mid-August, Sega will be shifting their online system from their SegaLink system to their SIGN system (Sega Internet Games Navi for those who wanted to know). SegaLink will still exist since it still deals in blogging, streaming media, and small games. SIGN is explicitly for their online games.

SIGN is basically their new portal system specifically for online games, already set up for RF online, PSOBB JP edition, their 15th Anniversary Carnival, Pro Soccer Club as well as PSU (Like anyone cared about the previous aformentioned titles mentioned in this sentence) when it hits.

For all SegaLink account holders, you need not register for the SIGN services, as your SegaLink account will be chained to it as well.

Why it matters to us? For one thing, it lets people know what's going on before people become confused on why they aren't using SL despite having signed up for it, and secondly, new portal/payment system means there's a fairly good chance that all you importers there that encountered "problems" with SL as far as credit cards go might have this problem resolved.

For me it makes a lot of sense in that rather than working with SL and letting it take money from your CC, then converting it to Link credits, THEN paying for your game (which was a REALLY dumb idea in the first place), it just let's you pay directly for your game.

For all you importers out there who experienced the CC rejection of SegaLink, keep your fingers crossed.

Edit: They finally put up a page for their announcement. Find it here (http://segalink.jp/main/notice/main_notice_list.asp?idx=1024&titleidx=1&siteidx=12).

Addendum to the original post, it was setup not only to simplify the procedure, but also to allow payment services to continue even when SegaLink is down.

Those of you who've used SegaLink lately know what's going on; a lot of downtime and crashes as of late.

Nice find,

I think this might be a way that X360 might be linked. If Sega decides to do something on the lines of Square-Enix Playonline service it will be possible.

the latest interview said they are exploring the possibility for linking Xbox360 to the other systems. but it's not final.

but it looks like they want to.

It would be best if they want to encourage multiplatform sales.

I really, really, hope this allows foreign CCs to be accepted.

Anyway, thanks for the info, Lyrise http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Not just that, but it would create a larger community that would last longer.

ya that's true.

but as far as I know they never tried linking 3 systems together before for a online Phantasy Star.

but Microsoft let Square get away with full servers linked amongst that system, PC and PS2.

Maybe Sega can have its way with full systems linking, since Japan region is not even linked with our region this time, at least the powerful alternative is to link all 3 systems together.

plus with the new Sega service, it sounds more universal and direct.

this game is using Sega servers anyways, so Microsoft shouldn't get in the way and try making their own special server for this game, just to cash in on a percentage of Sega's earnings. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
