I was wondering about something ironic. And as you know, irony can be pretty ironic sometimes! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

but even though I'm not making a Newman-type character, I've noticed the contradiction in the online Newman and Force Class system.

Karen is a Newman who has the handicap of not being able to use techniques. possibly the only one with that handicap. Maybe it was the result of her traumatic experience in the past, but anyways, I was wonderin.

If a normal Newman, can use techniques by their own dominant nature, then what's stopping a Hunter Newman or Ranger Newman from using techniques online?

It's just my opinion but if it were up to me, like Cast SUVs and Beast NanoBlasts, I would give Newmans the ability to use at least low level techs as a Hunter or Ranger, since unless they have Karen-syndrome, it would make absolute sense for them to use techniques.

Then again, techniques are technology that is handled differently in this universe, through special weapons like staffs, and wands, etc. etc.

so maybe Karen's handicap is in fact that not a matter of simply being unable to use techs.

It's just that even equipped with a Tech/Force-style weapon, she can't channel any techniques at all.

but we saw Mirei use Resta on Ethan's leg when the...lol...car hit him lightly. and she wasn't holding a big stick to use that power.

ah well. Just a thought. nothing serious. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

Warning! Warning! Story continuity errors XD

lol I think I answered my own questions.

I think the key are the Force weapons, they are needed to channel the power though them to cast those powers.

so ya, that would mean the Class system is not contradicting anything, since even if someone's a Newman, they can't use techniques without a Force weapon that can equip techniques.

So ya it makes sense. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

while we are on the subject of techniques, do Force weapons already coem with specific techniques?

or do you equip them like you equip Photon Arts on blades?

if so, do you have to remove those techniques from the Force weapon if you wanna sell that weapon but apply those techniques on a new weapon??? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

When you buy a force weapon, it doesn't come equipped with any techs. You have to manually equip them to the wand or rod to use them. By selling a weapon with them equipped, though, they will just unequip. You won't lose them.

does that mean learned techs always stay with you? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

c'monnn I know you beta testers have used Megid already lol.

if not, then there is a special technique learning system?

Right. After you learn a tech, it sticks with you. It's just like before as far as learning them, too. You buy a disk from a shop (I never did find one on the ground as a drop item) and if you have high enough TAP you can learn it.

Unfortunately, megid wasn't available in the beta. Only foie, rafoie, barta, rabarta, zonde, razonde, deega, radeega, resta and regene.

If they bring back the technique called Saner in PSU I would go insane.

Its an actual PSIV technique.

Yeah, the glorious consistency Sega is known for. Like how 1000 years kind of fail to pass between PS and PSII, or how in PSI the Dezolian dude in the Corona Tower is all 'lol, here, gimme your shiny thing and I'll give you an Eclipse Torch' and then in PSIV the priest guy in imtoolazytolookupthespelling temple is all 'OMG no, you can't borrow The Eclipse Torch!', or...

And then you get to PSO and it's even worse, especially with EpIII directly contradicting half of Ep1&2...

And now you have these cute little failures of sense. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

You have to have a FO weapon equipped to use techs at all ever! Except Mirei uses them without a weapon.

And you HAVE to be a Force to equip the weapons and use them! Except Karen, a Hunter, is supposedly 'handicapped' by not being able to use the techniques that... She can't use anyway because she's a Hunter! Yeah, good thinking there.

And lo, I have been blessed by the gods of PSU with a vision of the storyline! This will not be explained. Resign yourselves to that now, and you will be much happier. (Besides, where would we be without inconsistencies and plotholes to explain away with fanfics? Without some of my favourite Darrell Whitney PS fanfics, at any rate...)

Also, I have come to the conclusion that Saner is an agent of the Profound Darkness and as such must be destroyed. Who wants to help?

Hey, now, I think 2000 years is more than enough time for there to be policy (not to mention management, both style and personnel) changes in regards to the Eclipse Torch!

Mirei only uses them without a weapon in a cut scene, which doesn't mean anything! Game mechanics go out the window in cut scenes!

Karen couldn't use techniques even if she went up to the counter and changed her type, I imagine. Not that actually ever applied to story mode characters in the first place. We all know that Ethan can equip whatever he feels like.

Honestly, though I don't think these class equipment restrictions actually exist. I mean, from the game's perspective. They exist on an interface layer inbetween the game's reality and ours? Does that make any sense? No? I didn't think so. Same deal with PSO--that's why you have HUnewearls (well, just the one, but I'm sure there are other examples) running around with Rifles in quests, for example.

Yeah, true, game mechanics. (Which is probably why Endu's ending in Ep3 pissed me off so much, since it was apparently designed to attempt to EXPLAIN GAME MECHANICS. Uh, yeah, you can fight Dark Falz multiple times because it's a frickin' multi-player video game. >_>; )

Though, PSI implies that there's more than one object referred to as an Eclipse Torch, and PSIV implies that the one your party is after is the one and only Eclipse Torch, so who the hell knows. DX

(Though, why the heck NOT allow players to not be stuck into a specialized mold? Maybe make it like Super Novice on RO where you can only get first job class skills, but just about all of them are available to you to choose from, or if you want to specialize in only one thing, you can decide to be a Force or a Ranger or whatever and learn more specific things. XP ('Cause yeah, nobody but Mary Sues are good at EVERYTHING, but I still disagree with the concept that if, say, I've spent years studying and practicing the usage of techniques and gotten to be quite good at it that just because I then go and decide to learn how to use a sword, I INSTANTLY lose all my technique ability. I can see it degrading with lack of practice, i.e., I've been neglecting my technique training for a couple of years in favour of sword training and through lack of practice I'm no longer quite as powerful with them as I was, but immediately? Blah!

Hopefully there will be SOME kind of realism with the system. It's like... If I have 20 levels as a Ranger and then switch to being a FO, I'd damn well better still be able to shoot at least SOME guns more advanced than a Handgun. -_-;

And now I am off to go write a rant about this 'indigo' BS.
