Here is a quote from creator Takao Miyoshi from the E3 interview:

"One of the recommendations I have for the fans is to play through PSU's story mode first so that you can really enjoy the game. As you progress through the story, the characters can be customized and you'll get to know more about the playability of the characters, as well as the other elements and features in the game. After you've done story mode, go online and play, it will be much more exciting. When you go online, just enjoy the experience of exploring all of the storylines and features. As mentioned, I think of PSU as a long project, so enjoy the game as long as you can. "

Who is planning on taking his advise?

I'm not. I was excited about the single-player six months ago. Now, I just wanna tear stuff up with my friends.

ya it would be best to experience offline first and then online, since offline's story takes place before online's story, PLUS offline story serves as the foundation of everything PSU, the races, worlds, cultures, backgrounds, histories, events, etc. etc. etc.

but some people will play online anyways and when they can't play online they'll play offline, so ya, you'll have people who will choose one or the other first.

that poll is kinda worded wrong.

the offline story mode is not full immersion since the main character is not really you, or necessarily the 'you' you want to be. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

plus online multiplayer aspect is more flexible and open-ended for players to make up their own roleplaying aspects to immerse themselves and stuff.

but ya, online is a precious thing for these kinda games, so many want to experience as much as they can while it's available.

If you played story mode first, then you would have a better understanding of the history and such of the world. This is all I meant by "full immersion".
If you jump in a lake, you would get all wet.
This is another meaning for the term "full immersion".

yeah but offline mode will always be there and stuff.

I admit I really want this game for the onlime play since yuou can create your character and interact with many players just like when DC PSO came out.

That's really the best part of these games.

the offline story looks great but ya no matter when you choose to go through it, it will still be fresh and new experience to learn more. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

so ya either way, people will just choose whichever they wanna do the most first.

After waiting all this time for all the online experience I'm prepping for story can be in the back seat for a while.

I will definately be playing offline first. After all whats the point of playing a game that takes place in a world you know nothing about? Also if I play offline first I will get a better idea of how to play online and what weapons I want to specialize in so I won't be a total noob when I go online http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Well, Sevenfold, in addition to the online portion of phantasy star universe there will also be a story mode, which unlike online mode you will start with a preset character named Ethan. This offline mode, or story mode, will unfold like a traditional Japanese RPG except the major difference being PSU's unique combat system, oh and also being set in the phantasy star universe "universe."

meh, what can I say, I'm easily fooled http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

but anyways I don't really see the point in starting out online rather than offline the dissadvantages (<is that spelled right?) outweigh the advantages, or at least in my case.

Mmm, if Im reading that right Foxix you prefer offline first? For me personally, I will no doubt play it, but...Im no RPer and I really dont need a story online to enjoy it, so...you know...online for me http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Yes, thats correct Sevenfold
Maybe I just want more meat in a story that involves phantasy star "anything" without getting an emulator or having to find the original games or maybe I am just an RPG freak...

On second thought I'm just an RPG freak.

Definitely online first, if even just to check out everyone's chars http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I'll eventually play through the story mode, but it's not a priority.

Well. On a side note. when I look at all the old stuff from pso ep1/2, i get all warm and fuzzy inside. Even though there was not that much of a "fleshed out" story, the memories I have of being a part of that are priceless! (*tear* Dreamcast! *tear* I even bought another dc and got my girlfriend (now wife) to play with me. ) Basically, the players and the memories were the story, and everyone kinda had thier own. However I did kinda get teary eyed at the end of episode one when you see the red ring.
I guess what Im saying is:
1. In a way, we make the story, even if there is a story mode.
2. Even geeks and dorks like YOU guys can get married one day. It just takes some faith, and alot of moon atomizers.

Actually this is what made me fall in love with PSO in the firstplace. Other online games try to have a story where as this game lets the players in a sense become the story, sort of how there were certain "household names" that floated around like the name of hackers, very annoying people, or the way large clans unfolded.

Moon Atomizer http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif;geeks and dorks, not true for me.I'm a 6 foot 5 inch male who works out like a machine yet doesn't like a monster made of muscles, and I attract women with my sense of humor first.

Congrats on the Wife though, tell her some guy said congrats on here.

Also, back on topic,I will go offline first,so that I don't mess-up my character with improper training that I didn't know about.

Definately going to play the story mode first. However, I want to get online as soon as possible so I predict a few sleepless nights tearing through offline mode within 3-4 days.
