In other videos I've seen people lock on to monsters. She probably wasn't pressing the lock-on button, that's why the gun wasn't locking on to the monster.

LOL I watched one of the videos with him playing as a Force, and he wasn't using lock-on so his fireballs were going like all over the place http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

that last video with the four-legged dragon seemed like a rather easy boss fight. it may just be that the PC had the advantage as a ranger, i would hate to battle that thing as a hunter. But still, slow and predictable, a ranger's dream.

yeah, that ranger had a real easy fight just going to first person and blasting away. PWNage.

there is lock on for first person view?

maybe not that would make things too easy. makes more sense to manually aim yourself.

Saner is right, there is no lock-on for first-person view. Though also, there is no lock-on for guns in general.

really? no lock on for guns? I hope sonic team gets the controls right for the consoles. There are many shooters that fail due to very poor sensitivity and just in general crappy control schemes.

Although it is comforting to hear from beta testers saying that the controls felt like they were designed for consoles.

Kind of like the first dragon in PSO, easy as all get out. I would assume though, the bosses (15 total?) get harder http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

If that was the first boss, or even just one of the first bosses, then by all means, i won't complain. But if it was one of the later or even mid bosses, i might be a tad worried.

I don't see anything in that video that indicates any locking-on for guns. However, it may be that handguns, at least, have a lock-on feature. I'm fairly certain that rifles, shots, and other such weapons do not lock-on to targets.

However, if any beta tester knows otherwise, I certainly won't argue with them. I distinctly remember hearing that most ranged weapons didn't lock-on, though.

The character was strafing while firing, and the cursor wasn't in the center of the screen the whole time as if you were playing a first person shooter or something. That seems like lock-on to me.

I don't think it matters really, the girl in the video could handle her shots really well. Pluss, if you can lock on, it removes almost all skill from the ranger job.

Accualy, you can lock on. It shows right here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mo-mRB2ksro)

Just look at the enemies while she's shooting. I guess This enables side stepping.

I think you have to hold down a button to do it, because I've seen videos where the character doesn't automatically lock on by looking at the enemy. I'm guessing it'll be kind of like Zelda's lock-on system, just hold one of the triggers / bumpers on the controller down and then move to strafe around.

From what I believe has been discussed, with melee weapons it is possible to enter a Zelda-esque lock on mode in which you may encircle your opponent. Guns, however only allow for strafing. If you'll notice, the targeting changes as she changes weapons. I know it seems as if they lock on, but please look at seconds 20-22. As she strafes to the side, the "selected monster" changes to the one in her direct line of sight. Instead of hitting what appears to be the "dimenian" selected monster, as she strafes to the right she hits the rappy like monster instead - and the target changes to that even though the "dimenian" type monster is closer.

It does not seem there is a "lockon" for guns, however it seems that a bullet will hit an enemy if shot in its general direction - So in that way I suppose it might seem like theres a small "auto target" capability, but I really don't think there is.

Jul 10, 2006, 03:09 AM
She was weilding a saber and a hangun, and when she got into melee range the lock on became enabled. Because she moved in and out of range so frequently it might have appeared she was locked on when firing her handgun, but because her strafe was in a perfect line from right to left, and didn't focus on the target, I'm pretty certain that she wasn't locked on while firing.

Anyone else think it was really satisfying to see her get smacked across the room? I really hope they tweak it so they don't speak with EVERY sword swing.

mechatra
Jul 10, 2006, 08:25 AM
It was already tweaked so characters don't speak with every attack.

Infact that was one of the first changes made through the Beta.

Good job ST.

Now Forces are by far the noisiest class, what with speaking every time they freaking cast!

I've seen quite a few videos that obviously used lock-on, and started getting worried that I'd be looking at PSO controls again. After seeing a couple of those first videos posted on this thread, the lack of lock-on in them is extremely comforting to me. It's good to see that I am no longer forced to lock on to things like in PSO (though the hit box seems a bit lenient), and it's great to know that I can fully control the camera so I can see what I need to see when I need to see it.

Why would you want to nerf it Kyuu? It barely lasts one room fight time wise. Doesnt matter to me since Im not going to go beast anyways, but still, /nerf?

I think 30+ is what I counted Saner, thats my kinda group/guild/clan, etc etc, friendly and doing crazy stuff, like back in the old days....*sniff*

Oh, that reunion-like video that one's from the 'psu-create' page. That music in the background makes it even more of a tear-jerker :'( Hmm... I staged a stunt like that in Horizons when I left actually, wish I recorded it though... was rather moving if I do say so myself.

And as for hollering nerf; I think Kyuu is calling for a nerf in the light show area, yep I'm pretty sure it's the uber sparkly aura that's done it - sparkles do that to people you know, everyone wants some sparkles. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

The player didn't seem very attuned to playing in nanoblast form, but it looks like monsters were being damaged just by being near the character. He also had a few AE attacks, and his Photon Ability he used in two step looks ranged. He launched the monster in the air from a distance, then punched a air funnel at it.

Now that's a hunter!

Yikes! I somehow reposted my last post two more times a few minutes later somehow, that was crazy...anyways.

On page one, Sevenfold's first link, he shows a video with the ranger doing two different SUV attacks, as he stated.

I was under the impression that equipping a SUV worked like a beasts nano blast badge. So, was this video edited? Because I thought you had to return to town to change your SUV attack.

It looked like he had to step on them first.

Kers
Jul 11, 2006, 02:41 PM
he gets in range to step on the first monster, but when he touches it the other one behind it also is damaged, and he's not touching that one. If it is stepping on them, it's a wide range, so are the attacks.

the cast suv's aren't that great (not at the level of nanoblasts).

I dunno i preferred the SUV weps though i do prefer ranged fighting over melee so im a bit biased.

Sevenfold
Jul 11, 2006, 04:27 PM
That all depends on how you use them Carlo, if you group the enemies up, they can damage just fine in comparison to nanoblasts. Since Im going to be using a Cast as a Hunter and not a ranger like everyone keeps saying, its all a matter of how you play with them.

Saner
Jul 12, 2006, 02:19 AM
on the plus side, SUVs would give a Cast Hunter moments of being a powered-up Ranger as well. since most SUVs appear to be long range firepower. there was also a glimpse of a close range SUV, those would definitely do more damage I think.

and there is only one type of Nanoblast that is invincible during its duration. the rest can still take in damage and Nanoblast looks to be a purely close range special ability.

Did you guys notice the SUV Laser casted the Silence status effect on the surviving monster, and the SUV gatling had Jellen status effect?

Edit: I wonder what status effects the other SUVs have, like the rocket launcher and melee SUV.
