They're bound to bring rare items back in PSU. Are there any you hope to see? For me, I hope they bring steel swords back. Rare room decorations would be nice to.

There have actually been several topics about this already, I made one myself. Just scroll down and look it up. But, to answer your question, yes their will be rare items.

I hope to see weapons similar to the Lavis series. It would be cool if they brought the old ones back, but I'm expecting more new rare weapons than anything.

I relized I would love if they had a giant fan in the sword series. There's something I like about combining a fan with a wind photon art. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Here's to hoping ST doesn't choose to withhold any more Red Rings/Parasitic Genes from us.

...Or Double Cannons, if you go way back. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

well great news is that colors are no longer damage class based, now elemental-based.

so I think even at level 1, you can synthesize/buy a red-based photon weapon. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

On that note Saner, what would classify a rare weapon then? If not the color, then....?

I guess the weapons look and design. It would pretty cool to find classic PSO rares in PSU. But they would be diffrent colors of the weapons since the colors mean the element.
That would be so tight to get a Red Sword design Sword but it would Blue instead of Red

The thing of it is, from everything Iv read, weapons are no longer found, they are made, aka synthesized.

Monster Hunter comes to mind when you put it like that. lol But i'm sure will know soon enough then on how rare weapons work

no rares are still found. I believe there is even a sign that pops up in PSU if someone nabs a rare.
It basically just says who got what really http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

LoL yeah foxix, I know that, but I wasnt being so vague. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif I mean rare weapons, not just any random rare item. Like a physical weapon that you could equip on the spot (assuming your high enough in level). Im pretty sure thats not part of the equation in PSU, not from what Iv read and heard anyways. And on top of that, Im asking what makes it rare to begin with? If not the colors, its just the way it looks? The hilt? the tips? etc etc, or are there rare elements?

That would be rather cool, but does no one know the answer to my questions!? ***uuber cries***

Item synthesis is NOT the only way you can aquire weapons/armor. I'm not sure when or why people got the idea that because you CAN make weapons through item synthesis, that it was the ONLY way to get them. The orange/blue tetrahedrons (that's the term for a three-dimensional diamond) that I've seen in beta videos are weapon/armor drops, if I'm not mistaken.

Item synthesis may be the only way you can aquire weapons with elements (though I have no idea if random weapon drops can be generated with an element), however.

I could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure I'm not. Please do correct me if I'm wrong, though.

Ok then, still, my question to you would be, what makes it RARE?

Foxix
Jul 11, 2006, 02:13 AM
well more than likely the same thing that made it rare in pso, attack and that totally awesome look your character gets when its equipped. If its not then ST has strayed too far from the original formula.

Well, probably the same thing that made an item rare in PSO: anything of a certain rarity rating (9 stars or above in PSO) was granted rare status, along with the famous Red Box.

From what I've heard, the star rarity rating is still present, and I believe it is still 9 stars or above for Red Box status.

Considering the meaning of the word "rare," it rather makes sense that it's based on the item's rarity.

Well I recently got a normal item in offline pso that actually had a special attack good enough that it boosted its rarity to a yellow name http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif which I had never seen before but the box was still orange... so that red box think isn't always true. Just a tidbit of info there

LoL I know what the definition of rare is Kyuu, but Im just trying to figure out on hear say, how rare weapons retain their rarity in PSU. Based on, rare colors, rare ingredients, or whatever.

Ah, you are quite right about that. However, the base item itself does not have the requisite rarity value to get the Red Box, which is why it retains the orange box status of normal weapons. It does get the nice yellow letters though. =P

Basically, the answer is this: whatever Sonic Team decides is a rare is a rare. Rares are generally more powerful than the run-of-the-mill fare, but not always, and rares generally get their own unique model that they do not share with any other weapon.
