No, because you do this x squared + 18= 9
Ok x squared = -9 if x =3 then itd be 3 squared =9=-9 so no. It is No solution because if its -3 then its (-3)squared =-9 but (-3)squared = 9 as well not -9...

The answer is ±3i

NO, I refuse, (-3)squared = 9 not -9, 3squared = 9, not -9. I win. Its neither.

Who said anything about squaring -3 or 3.

I said the answer was ±3i

i (or j, as represented in some text) is an imaginary unit.

i = squareroot(-1)
i² = squareroot(-1) * squareroot(-1) = -1

(-3i)² = (-3)*(-3)*(i)² = (9)*(-1) = -9

Similarly...

(3i)² = (3)*(3)*(i)² = (9)*(-1) = -9
