I was wondering about this.

and this might in fact change my mind about what to do first.

http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/hotdog.gif

because after all, the bottom line is that I'm getting this for the online play (since character creation and multiplayer are the most fun online-style)

but Im really interested in the Story mode too!

but um um like if Story basically borrows all the levels and bosses from online, then..... would playing story mode then going online, be like doing the levels over from scratch?

http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/takeout.gif

if that's the case, maybe I'll look up all the media and info of story cutscenes and plot and stuff when the Japanese version comes out, we would discuss and learn everything about it, and just play online 100% when the full game comes out, and if there's time we can't go online we'll play the story mode ourselves? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/burger.gif

cause ya I guess I'm really anxious in playing online since that is really the #1 thing I wanna play. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/sprite.gif

so ya like doing online first and all the way, that would be like the first time we would do all the levels and stuff, cause story mode basically has the same thing right? well it might have exclusives like Magashi and maybe exclusive missions or whatever.

but ya, I have been consulting my pillow and I think doing online first is a great idea after all.

I dont think repeating the same levels online will matter to me because...Well, i'll be repeating them every day hahah. Were going to see the same places a million times, just like in PSO. I dont think 1 repeat would matter. I think it'll keep me captivated still and now i just know more about it so i dont get caught off guard.

Plus i want to know the story regardless, in depth and word for word so i know what really happened here.

I wont mind doing the off-line first. I am interested in the story. Plus, that way I get a feel for the game ya know what i mean.

ya I don't mind repeating but one thing is repeating it again and again as a created character that continues to grow, and repeating it again after playing offline while has no affect on your status online.

Im not saying offline should affect online, or that offline is pointless, which is not.

but if I'm gonna experience these levels first, I would wanna do it with other people too http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

besides I don't think I can resist seeing all the youtube videos and media and info about the offline story when Japanese version comes out. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

ya at some point all do the offline story myself but ya online looks to be what I'm really waiting for all along. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

the story mode's characters and stuff are very interesting so I'll be sure to look into that even after reading up translations of whatever people discover in the Japanese version.

but ya its great PSU offers the best of both worlds. so I'll go online first and stuff and save offline for later, cause anyways people will have fun no matter which mode they do. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

Whichever you feel best doing. But remember the Burning rangers.

Saner you gotta explain to me those odd food icons in your posts one day. I keep imagining you as beeing an angry burger king manager who throws food at people at the end of every sentence you say.

well there was that time looong ago in order to pay less to use the city bus. but other than that time, my age is true! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

and ya the food icons are used to space things better and used as guides so people don't lose their place in their reading of the paragraphs! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Both sound pretty good, but I'll prob start offline first because I'm importing. When the US version comes I'll go straight to online.

They said offline was completely different from online so I don't think any of it will repeat. Some of the missions and such might take place in a similar setting, what with it taking place on the same planets and etc, but will be structured differently and have different goals. At least that's the impression I got from everything they have said about the game so far.

Saner
Jul 28, 2006, 02:41 PM
ya offline might have the enviornments structured differently, definitely!

because they already have the textures and models and templates for the enviornments, they can simply redesign the map layout and the already established enviornments do the rest to be unique areas. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

I think offline first. Thanks DrewSeleski, for clearing my mind.

DrewSeleski
Jul 28, 2006, 02:44 PM
Exactly, and the goals of Ethan would be quite different than those of some Hunter right? Especially if online takes place after whatever events happen in offline. I would assume at least a few of the offline bosses would probably be characters in story mode as well.

Saner
Jul 28, 2006, 03:26 PM
oh ya.

well actually both offline and online, everyone are Guardians. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

Hunters Guild technically don't exist in PSU. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

but technically they are not the same since Guardians get their own rooms than lounging all day outdoors like pirates. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif plus otehr conveniences. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

We already know that the first area Ethan goes to is the Ralphon Plains, then the relics. Those were the first stages available in the beta, its an easy bet to say online and offline will have nearly the exact same stage progression

Jul 28, 2006, 03:39 PM
ya. in any case, people will just play first what they wanna do.

but ya I decided now to go online first, since that's the main reason and its features that I love these games anyways. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

My assumption is offline will use all the levels, towns, bosses etc but, as with quests from PSO, very likely would use different maps. Itd then be pieced together with cinematics, time in spent in town etc with NPCs only found offline (like other RPGs) as well as possibly an environment or two only found offline (wandering around on a ship or somesuch). That would make Extra Mode pretty much identical to online PSU play in terms areas you are playing, being that Extra Mode is in large part an offline-only mode for those who cant (or dont wish) to go online, much like offline PSO. There's probably some unique content in each of offline and online play.

So does online and offline share the same levels and bosses? Sure, for the most part I'd think so, with some uniqueness to be found in each mode. Doesnt mean one should play one or the other first. Whatever makes you happy. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

Saner
Jul 28, 2006, 10:35 PM
ya!

I also think since online takes place 3 years later, that it might have a different final boss. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

so ya both modes will have their differences. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

hey you know, I been thinking more and I think I'll do the offline story first!

I mean like, its not like Im gonna miss anything the first 3 days of online. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

besides I'm really good at these kinda games so I'm sure I can complete the story mode pretty fast like in 2-4 days. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

and then after that, online all the way! hooray! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

so ya, I changed my mind again lol. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

Probably online. I'll pretend that clearing areas online unlocks corresponding portions of the offline game. It'll be like going through an area, then going offline would be like "3 years earlier..."

aaah! that's a interesting way to look at it.

ya I think I'll do online first then. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

but I think I'll just wait and see everything they reveal about the Japanese version and stuff. maybe the translations and stuff from there will detail enough about the story mode, that it would be like playing the story mode before the U.S. version comes out. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

because the gameplay of offline and online are basically the same except that in story mode you use a pre-made character and the super class stuff.

so if we know the story and cutscenes before hand through the Japanese version and translations and understanding, then we will be all ready and informed to start online with the story mode already fully experienced. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

but ya no matter what, at some point I will play offline story mode myself. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

it's just that naturally the online mode is what I really wanna play. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif but the offline story characters and everything that can be learned from story mode, greatly interests me! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I haven't changed it 20 times yet so I'm still sane, yup. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

but ya the deciding factor will be based on everything we learn from the Japanese version over the course of September.

What I don't get us why the hell did you consalt a pillow?

Saner
Jul 29, 2006, 12:27 PM
well um sometimes consulting something is kinda like consulting yourself but sometimes it's best to treat something like pillow, kind of like a mentor or like a wise sage.

so it's basically giving yourself advice and stuff but in the 3rd person, it's more comfortable cause like a pillow won't judge you wrongly, you see?

so it's pretty 4th dimensional but I think you understand now, right? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

I'm kinda like Saner, I still can't really decide which mode I want to play first. On one hand, the story looks pretty awesome and the characters seem pretty cool (Renvolt is bad-ass), but on the other hand, we all know where the REAL fun is, playing it online with cool teammates. I'll probably play offline first for a day or two to find out which race/class I want to be online, and to figure out how to properly raise a character. I refuse to make any character-raising mistakes on my first online character, like the terrible materials that my first character in PSO had.

Saner
Jul 29, 2006, 03:28 PM
ya for me I think the Japanese release will cover lots of media and info about the story mode itself and by the end of September we'll probably know everything about the offline story mode as if we played it ourselves.

so with that knowledge at hand, I think I would play online first and have fun.

http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_salad.gif

and if there are ever times I'm visiting relatives or not have online connection, I would enjoy the story mode and extra mode after that http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif
