I'm actually trying to see from this forum as to what the majority of you guys will do when you get the game and play online.

I'm gonna speed level. I believe I'll learn more about everything around me just because I'm gonna force interaction when I have to sell/buy/party

Shiro_Ryuu
Aug 7, 2006, 09:50 PM
my first intention would be to go around killing monsters with my swords. I'm not sure if any of those match exactly what I mean, so I voted other.

Aug 7, 2006, 09:52 PM
I'll probably walk around and explore all the cities, see what types of shops there are, and what items they sell, then make a checklist of what gear I'm gonna want to save for.

Aug 7, 2006, 09:58 PM
I am kind of Hypersaxon, explore, see what I want to get in the future, see the scenery, basically just take in the "Newness" of the game for awhile, then hunker down with some friends and start the fun http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Shiro_Ryuu

I'll probably do the same after I satisfied my thirst for blood.

Meet up with old friends. Enjoy the game like I did when Phantasy Star Online first came out on Dreamcast.

err I didn't mean that....DON'T KILL ME! *covers head as he reverts into fetal position*

Anyway, what is the difference between missions and quests?

Saner
Aug 8, 2006, 12:48 AM
Probably explore right after getting used to the menu options and controls stuff.

chances are someone might invite me to their party when I log on. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

um missions are I guess story-progressing stages. they still play like the PSO locations. going from point A to point B and eventually fighting a boss.

and quests might be side missions for bonus stuff or something.

some missions might have special objectives though maybe.
because it's confirmed even online, vehicles can be used for specific missions.

I'm gonna smoke a large blunt of some of the world's finest chronic while exploring the city for the first time, then I'll find a party and commit mass monster genocide.

Aug 8, 2006, 02:05 AM
Actually, people are just using the terms "mission" and "quest" interchangably now. They really refer to the same thing.

Ifrian
Aug 8, 2006, 06:06 AM
I guess the first thing i will do is run around and search where is the " two handed Sword shop"
Then get the biggest sword there is and go kill monsters untill i get satisfied with killing.
Then i will go back to lobby, go to buy a even bigger two handed sword and will roam around the lobbies and try to make few new friends.

(and ask about a even bigger sword)

First off I'm going to jet level my cast to 20 so I can use S.U.V. weapons. After I do that, I'm going to explore a little but mostly look for missions. Really a little bit of everything but I want to focus on a lot of the missions, since those really shape the game for me. I like a good story, even if it's just a short quest.

I'll probably level my self some, so I can spend a darn good portion of my time on Moatoob.

Explore the starting town and survey all the shops etc, then its off into a mission.

Defintely speed level and hopefully pick up a few rares along the way.

I'm gonna jump right into missions. The way I see it, everything else will fall into place after that. I plan to meet new friends by playing with them during mission runs. I'll earn exp and level cause of it (I wanna work on my tech and class skill levels anyways), and gather proper meseta/item drops to hold onto for the future till I understand how to upgrade my equipment better. If I get lost a lot cause I didn't explore much, I'll rely on ppl along the way to direct me.
http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif
Besides, getting an A ranking on missions are gonna be the closest thing to cmode at this time and I'm all for it! Don't let anyone die, and get to the finish line at the quickest time. Sounds like fun!

Saner
Aug 8, 2006, 12:59 PM
hmm I wonder where online players appear first? in their room or somewhere in G.C.?

maybe they start with some Meseta to buy some basic stuff? nah probably zero meseta, unless the faction is generous to its new Guardians. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

PandaMasterX4
Aug 8, 2006, 01:05 PM
Every MMO starts you off with something if you complete a basic quest that it puts you through.

Quests and Missions are different. Quests you preform tasks for people and they reward you. Mission is story development.

Eros17
Aug 8, 2006, 01:09 PM
Speed Lvl to about 100, then go and beat on the n00bs. I may also ambush Lvl 200 or so people with my friends. (5 guys can take down 1 right? ... right ???)

Saner
Aug 8, 2006, 01:11 PM
well looks like they blended both at least for online missions, since there are those ranking rewards as well as unlocking advanced missions.

and completing missions somewhat progresses the 'story'.

We can tell the first couple of missions seem to just be regular clean up jobs, but it might get more deeper further on. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

PandaMasterX4
Aug 8, 2006, 01:19 PM
Well I'm pretty sure that you can get random quests from NPCs that won't connect to other parts of Missions. But yah I guess that's right.

So what's this speak about no free roam and how you can only enter the world during a mission? Is that true or BS?

AngelLight
Aug 8, 2006, 01:23 PM
Current word is, you wont be able to just teleport, walk out, etc. out into the world...you have to be on a certain mission for them to instance an area for you to explore....

Yeah, I know kind of crappy, but meh.....It should still be fun...

PandaMasterX4
Aug 8, 2006, 01:25 PM
K that's what I thought. I really have no arguement with it, but now I gotta assemble PTs.

AngelLight
Aug 8, 2006, 01:27 PM
well, in a certain logic, they're taking a page from GW.....you can take NPCs with you for those times that you're feeling anti-social (or you can't find ppl)

Aug 8, 2006, 01:32 PM
I'm going to explore with friends http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif Then im going to lounge a bit. Then finally i'll do some quests and level up as quick as i can http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Saner
Aug 8, 2006, 01:32 PM
ya the NPCs look cool. and it doesn't look like they are limited time-based like those limited FF11 NPC partners. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

I wonder if we could have like a story mode NPC character, and a battle Partner Machinery on the field at the sametime? hmm maybe not since both use those Guild Card things. so probably can only have 1 out at a time.

but that's okay. they are a good last resort if there's no one around to party or you feel like filling the remaining slot with an NPC.

I heard NPCs reduce your Mission Rewards/score.
so they are best for special occassions. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

PandaMasterX4
Aug 8, 2006, 01:39 PM
Boo to reduction on points with using NPCs. Ok, I'm gonna need a couple hardcore players who are willing to play all day with me when it comes out and mission it up. I want the most possible points and the fastest levels.

AngelLight

I'm curious, would PMs count towards point reductions? They're not normal NPCs after all......

It's soooooo good the doors are automatic again like PSO. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

I remember my first moments in FF11, I followed someone into a goldsmithing shop and the doors closed behind me and for like almost an hour I couldn't figure out how to open the doors. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

I had to spend 15 minutes figuring out how to shout so someone could tell me how to open doors step by step. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

but thankfully games like PSO and PSU go beyond the concept of manually opening doors. I mean switches make sense but lol anyways... http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I have so many things to say, and yet... I don't know what to say. Unless you have to battle with the doors to get them to open for you, I can't imagine how the process of opening doors could be that complicated.

I think they count as point reductions as well. In a online enviornment that promotes teamwork among players, it's counter-productive to promote soloing with an a.i. partner.

PMs and NPCs are there as support for those who can't handle the missions themselves.

after all PMs and NPC do not gain experience, they are basically extra firepower to help clear a mission, so the drawback is reduced points in exchange for a.i. combat support.

but it would be nice if PMs have no penalities on the field.

in any case, if you want the most rewards and ranking stuff in the least amount of time, NPCs and possibly PMs best left for moments when you are not caring about high ranking/rewards/money.

well ya that was my first time with that golden arrow thingy. Targeting in games wasn't that complex before FF11. normally you just walk up to a door and press action. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

oh my stars there's SO many people bent on getting max level as soon as possible! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

well that's okay if you have fun playing for that, but it's sometimes best not to rush things too quickly otherwise that could lead to accidents and lower rankings and needless frustration. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

I'll probably take my time exploring and doing missions with a friend. No point in rushin' to cap out as fast as possible if there's no PvP in my oppinion. I'll probably be playing for long while, trying to max out all the jobs and cap out the level on the 3 characters I'm going to be making. Me love action RPGs.

My first intention will be to figure out what I like about PSU and then show those things to the people whom I recruited to this game. It's all for the sake of proving me right. I guess that would fall under lounging with friends but without the lounging.

I gotta explore and enjoy my time as a naive newb not knowing the world! At the same time I'll try and be as efficient as possible to get as much of each kind of leveling up as I can and get enough money for good equipment for my income level.
