Had a fun time in the nearest local shop with the Premiere Disc offer today.

It said on the poster outside that the premiere disc was a present for PEOPLE WHO PREORDERED THE GAME.

I went in, to preorder a copy as a friend of mine has already paid for it, well it pretty much went like this:

Me: I would like to order Fantashii sutaa yuunibaasu.
Sullen woman at desk: Um. YAMADA SAN! YAMADA SAN! *points to me* I understand they want to order um, Universe?
Yamada san: OK desu.
Me: PC version.
Yamada san: OK um, right. *walks off, brings back PS2 order form*
Me: Uh no I want the PC version, can I order that?
Yamada: Sure. *walks off, comes back with PC order form, launches into spiel* YOUHAVETOGOTOTHESIXTHFLOORFORTHEPCVERSIONASITISTHE PCFLOORTHISISTHEPLAYSTATIONFLOOR.
Me: Sorry I'm really deaf.
Yamada: *repeats*
Me: I go to sixth floor now? Whut?
Yamada: *very loud* NO YOU GO ON THE LAUNCH DAY.
Me: *thinks: why the fuck are you telling me now?* OK. Um. I order PC version now then.
Yamada: OK it is 500 yen.
Me: *realisation suddenly dawns* Uh, I uh, do I have to order the PS2 version to get the PS2 demo or what?
Yamada: Whut demo?
Me: The premier disc?
Yamada: Uh?
Me: Uh, it says it outside.
*Yamada goes outside, comes back with POSTER from outside of the shop.*
Yamada: Uh it says here it is a special event to get the demo and it is limited.
Me: *points to small text* But it says I have to order.
Yamada: Ah yes.
Me: DO I HAVE TO ORDER PS2 VERSION OR WHAT?
Sullen bitch behind desk: You said you wanted the PC version before.
Me: YES BUT I AM WORRIED DO I HAB 2 ORDER DA PS2 VERSION OR WHUT?
Yamada: I go get manager.
*manager arrives*
Manager: Yes. You MUST order the PS2 version.
Me: *sigh* OK, PS2 version plz.
Woman: LOL GEEKS R STRANGE Y DID I GET DIS JOB.

So yeah you have to order the fucking PS2 version, even if you don't actually WANT it, to get the premiere disc on Saturday. At least at the shitty store I go to.

If the store's supply is fairly low, I suppose the fair thing to do would be to only give the Premiere disc out to those that pre-ordered the game. Still, I imagine this is happening on a store-by-store basis.

well it makes sense to pre-order the PS2 version to get the PS2 demo. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

LOL http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif Thing is that its not that far from the truth sometimes. I remember a game I preordered once which only gave me this little pouch with the logo of the game on it -shrugs- I'm all for soundtracks though, they make the game really attractive to me, even if its just like 5 tracks like the Chrono Cross one o_< that or posters http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Why not also get some PC special stuff....I mean....Even though when it gets closer there will be like demos all over the internet....What about PC pre-orders...

Saner
Aug 10, 2006, 01:09 PM
well PC gaming isn't popular in Japan like console gaming. they might come up with somethin for U.S. but the game itself is what really matters.

pre-orders insure a copy and also tell the company a better idea of the demand in those areas. so free stuff is nice but not essential to enjoy the game. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

Gaming in general almost lost it's popularity in Japan completely. Thanks to the DS in recent age, it's been brought back up to an all time high from it's low in ages.

consoles all this time have been making good money even in Japan. I don't think DS alone triggered the increase. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

The DS did it all alone. The DS Lite has broken all previous records of handhelds AND consoles. Its selling tons more a Week then PS2 ever has. In Japan the PSP is BOMBING because of the DS Lite. The DS/DS Lite is outselling all other consoles combined in weekly sales. In America and Europe the PSP is tied with DS pretty much. Nintendo knows their own home market very well and knows what they are doing. The Wii will dominate Japan just like DS lite. Also another funny thing to note about Japan sales is that the original GBA sells more then XBOX in weekly sales.

You really don't know much about what goes on in the far east do you? Video games in Japan have been on a decline for the last 8 years. There pretty much was no longer a target audience in Japan. The DS showed the elder people, children, adults can all enjoy games like Nintendogs and Brain Age.

Yes the DS did it alone. Why do you think Japan is in such high praise for the Wii? It's something every generation can get into, not just the younger audience. The DS lite sold out 3 hrs before the doors were able to open at most stores. Lines would exceed 3 blocks.

Kind of silly that you need to preorder the game in order to get the premiere disc. I had sorta thought this was going to be used as a promotion to spread the word, not something for people who were already buying the game

8 years? I guess most of them certainly didn't appreciate the great 'Made in Japan games'(that were released these past 8 years) as much as we did. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

yeah I guess so http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_chicken.gif but this certainly explains why I get pwned by the japanese in every game... the ones that were actually playing stuff like FFXI were just 1337 as carp O_o makes me feel a little better knowing that they will be gaming again so I won't get pwnt by their most elite >.<

oh my that memory hit me like a rock in the back of the head >.< yeah the PVP I remember now! yeah it's been a while since I played FFXI. At least a year, I never liked the idea of sitting around for hours synthesising stuff just so you could buy something. The something being something that actually helped people realize that you don't suck.

Saner
Aug 11, 2006, 04:24 AM
http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_rabite.gif , I never synthesized anything at all during my level 50+ career in FF11. I guess money wasn't that much of a problem because of certain alliances http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif , but ya, everything in that game was pretty much a chore. the only fun part was the social aspect and world, which is simply not enough to spend time on such a game that is payed monthly.

Aug 11, 2006, 04:32 AM
http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_chicken.gif you little brat thats not fair. I killed one of those emperor things in the dessert and sold its hairpin for something like 300k (can't remember if I got half or not) I basically lived off that money for almost my whole time playing it. Then when when I told my friends about it they started moochin' off me. Which didn't help considering my favorite class was ranger (or whatever used the guns and bows). well that and dragoon, the cute little bugger was named Donryu http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif sometimes I was a monk... carp that game had a cruel currency if you wanted nice things.

FFXI was a very rough experience for me, heh. hence the reason I quit,

sorry if I am beginning to become incoherent. It's 2:32 am and I have not slept much.

Saner
Aug 11, 2006, 04:44 AM
yes a very cruel currency, http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_rabite.gif . very cruel world. so cruel that you spend most of your character's lifetime grinding in certain spots instead of progressing in the story missions.

when a mmorpg is based on level 60-70+ being the only ones that have the 'real fun', it's too much work for so little. I know maxed out players that are bored and they haven't even finished CoP. FF11 is only 'successful' because of its name. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

it wouldnt make sense pre-ordering the PC version and getting the PS2 beta.

less PS2 betas go to waste if only PS2 orders are accepted to get it, because typically those who pre-order the PC version might not have a PS2 to begin with.

Foxix
Aug 11, 2006, 10:07 PM
meh that happens when http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_chicken.gif and I get going. It's a strange phenomenon caused by swamp gas and weather balloons.

But anyway I think that even If you do preorder the PC version you should still be able to get the demo. You are still preordering the game right? You are still paying for it and you should have the same privelage as a person playing on the PS2.

Saner
Aug 12, 2006, 12:58 AM
ya but what would a PC version reserver do with a PS2 beta disc?

ya some PC gamers have PS2 also but it makes more sense to make the beta bonus exclusive for PS2 pre-orders because of course they are not going to check if a PC pre-order person has a PS2.

the point of the beta discs is to promote the game and people try it out and stuff.

Foxix
Aug 12, 2006, 01:08 AM

well they're not doing a very good job of that if you have to buy the game to play the demo <_<

Saner
Aug 12, 2006, 01:19 AM
you dont have to 'buy' the game to play the demo.

people can easily pre-order, get the bonus, and cancel the pre-order anyway. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

and besides demos costs money to manufacture, so naturally consumers have to do their part if they want a taste of it. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Foxix
Aug 12, 2006, 01:30 AM
errr not really I have gotten free demos for burnout revenge and a very bad fighting game http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif
also some places require you to put down a small fee for actually making the reservation in addition to the actual cost of the game.

Saner
Aug 12, 2006, 01:34 AM
even putting down money, you can cancel you pre-order before the game comes out, and you don't have to return the bonus item you got for reserving. it's best to cancel the pre-order like a day or more after the day you reserved it.

I've done it before. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

but on rare ocassions, some stores/offers are smart and only give you the pre-order bonus on the day the full game comes out. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

Hi everybody, nice to meet you ^_^
It's my first post on the site even if I have been reading you for ...ages actually.
Someone might remember me as the FOrce "Mandarino" on PSO GC and PSOBB. I played in the Nuvola Rosa team.

I had to pre order the PS2 version of the game at Softmap to get the premiere disk. I think it's the same everywhere. It doesn't bother me at all since I would have preordered anyway but still someone might have preordered it already.

what fuck! why the hell is DS so damn popular the games are retarded. the only games for DS i actually want to play are the castlvania games and advance wars dual strike. how the hell does that shit sell so well on gimmick games that bore me within 5 minutes.

Whoa, hatred. Well, i can understand, for I am avoiding the DS for the same reasons you are. The novelty gimmick games are fun though, at least while they last. (Phoenix Wright!)

I'm shocked to hear about its massive popularity in Japan as much as some others. I would guess that a lot of Japanese just aren't gamers and thus want gimmicks or stuff accessible to more than just gamers...of course, there's still enough gamers out there, I mean just look at the sales figures for some games, especially "Tales of..." and *gugh* Final Fantasy.

it's the 8th mystery of the world.

I guess the simplicity of the simpler games draws in more people who don't want to take the time to get involved in much more advanced and deeper games.

It makes you wonder what's their idea of 'fun'. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

but as long as the whole videogame industry doesn't dumb itself down to that level of gimmicks and technology vs. deeper gameplay, then there's still a bright future. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
