Settin up my router /w ISPs

I got my router and eveyrthing, but the manual I got to configure my PC to connect t my cable 4-port router with the router dosn't cover windows XP. Can anyone tell me how?

Just plug the cat5 from the router into your computer. XP auto detects it.

I'm getting an odd error when I connect to the internet with the GC:

Alert Message:
The certificate doesn't exist.
Note:
Please verify on the Calender screen that the time and date are correct.

And once I connect and set up my account, I go to put in the authorization name that it asks for, hit submit, and then it says that it is unable to authorize my credit card at this time. Is this due to that error further leading me to wonder if the error is being caused by the Router? I'm just wondering if there are some settings I should change around. My card is a Mastercard and my router is a Linksys 4-port wireless router (I'm obviously running a line to the router, not doing anything wirelessly).
