View Full Version : Elements: become elemental warriors

PSU offers us the capability to add the elements we want to our weapons and also the techs are of our choice. We basically can then speicalise and have boosts to out prevailing element. The question here is, which element is gonna be yours to use? Of course they'll advantage and disadvantage, but it basically makes you an elemental being. I love light techs, colours, Caduceus is my pride and glory. Oh, and since we don't know much about Rock type, please still consider it.

You forgot Earth http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Edit: I choose fire cuz nothing beats watching enemies burn to death while you stand infront of them laughing

since we can switch between 6 weapons I would have different elements available eventually. one of each element. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

you should have made all the photon types available in the Poll.

normal (green),
fire (red),
earth (orange),
ice (blue),
lightning (yellow),
light (white),
dark (purple)

Well I plan to use all of them eventually. It just depends on the character, my main will probably use light or earth, my second dark, and as a third fire.

Most people are going to have "sets" of each weapon with all the different element combinations, and will set one weapon to each slot in the action pallette.

That's what I plan on doing http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

I tried to make an elemental FO in PSO, but it just ended up crippling the character. PSU would have to offer some pretty significant bonuses to specializing in a certain element in order for me to even consider going that route again.

Saner
Aug 11, 2006, 05:00 AM
lol well specializing in one weapon element would be like specializing with only one type of Shield Line, it's best to have all types if possible.

or at least green since non elemental damage is better than fighting fire with fire. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I think it would be better to have a variety of elements, like a fire sword and an ice sword or whatever, so that when you run into enemies with different elemental weaknesses, you can just switch the weapons according to what monster[s] you're fighting.

As everyone said , it is better to have some of each .
But i guess my fauvorite would be fire.

Aug 11, 2006, 10:08 AM
I'd go for two of them (cause each weapon has differnt elements) of course I'll try to specialize in them all but if I can't do that I'll go with Dark and Light

If later installments of PSU offer Battle Mode, then dark and ice ftw! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif
It’s fun being a cheap bastard

But for general leveling, a balance is recommended :/

Im going for Ice SLS and an Ice Axe

I'm not going to force myself into a single element. I'm going to use them all as the need arises.

The ice status effect seems a little over powered if you ask me. I'd think it would better if it was just a speed reduction as opposed to the "trapped in an iceblock" stun it is now. Even electric is just a 1-2 second stun here and there across it's duration. I dunno, that's just my oppinion.

Saner

enemies can do it to you too so its kind of balanced. plus makes things more challenging when enemies use it. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Uhh, I think he meant unbalanced compared to the other elements. I just hope freeze isn't as annoying as it was in PSO. Well, I guess that would make rangers a bit more in demand, to keep the enemy freeze-***s in check.

Element...I prefer neutral since that makes for no weakness. But if I had to choose, wind. Wind is usually green in games. Oh wait, green is neutral. Wind is neutral. My element is wind. Neutral. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Okay really, if I had to specialize, light and ice (especially for freeze defense). Maybe dark and lightning, if dark aint Purple Cloud of Uselessness and lightning aint cheesy yellow stuff.

Saner
Aug 12, 2006, 01:31 AM
well usually in some cases, wind and lightning are related in some games.

yellow might represent both. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

but ya I dont think blue will be overpowered. it has a chance to freeze but the other elements might be more damaging. besides a good solution is to simply make some of the monsters immune to freeze.

oh ya and elemental effects like burn are very damaging, making fire even more dangerous than ice in some cases.

I'm pretty sure you can run around and pop a Mate while you're on fire though. If you're frozen, you can just kiss your ass goodbye if the enemy is smart/COWARDLY enough to hit you while you're down.

Saner
Aug 12, 2006, 01:51 AM
well that's the balance. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

frozen = helpless but chance of breaking free before suffering too much damage

burning = losing HP every few seconds, but using healing techs/items can help outlast the effect.

Jife_Jifremok
Aug 12, 2006, 01:55 AM
The balance can also be

Fire=Rapid HP loss countered by Chain-Mating. (huh-huh)
Ice=Frozen and chance to be KILLED before breaking free without the chance to heal.

Saner
Aug 12, 2006, 02:02 AM
gee well guess what, life isn't fair. lol http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

would you expect ice to not do what it's best at doing? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

they shouldn't dumb down the difficulty for the sake of those who think its cheap to get frozen. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

besides players will more often freeze enemies than the other way around, since not all enemies have access to ice attacks, but all Guardians can have access to ice techs/blades/bullets.

Jife_Jifremok
Aug 12, 2006, 02:13 AM
There's challenge, and then there's cheese. Simply getting frozen and then beaten on unavoidably is a cheap way to die or have to heal a lot, unless the whole getting frozen part is avoidable.

And I hope that if I try freezing my enemies, I'll have to earn that freezing so I won't feel dirty beating down on their defenseless selves. Say, if freezing attacks were harder to hit with or multiple hits had to connect or something. (Ever play Low G Man on the NES? Great enemy-freeze system it had there. Shoot enemies enough times and they froze, then use the spear to finish them off (only used vertically for some reason). And some enemies were a bitch to freeze, and even more a bitch to kill without freezing. A great example of EARNING cheap hits.)

If one then dark. If two then lighting. If more then all http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

By the way, hyper sax...are you that guy on the gears of war forum?

Saner

but you see the blue photon weapons don't always freeze.

there is a reasonable % of that effect happening.

Fire of course...make the world a living hell for all of the creatures because they all are on fire and they dont have mates http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Hmm..reasonable % chance might be too much. Then again, if it were too low there'd be no point in even trying. But then there's another question: Would elemental weapons even have status effects, or would you need the right photon art or bullet to pull that off regardless of weapons?

Hey that reminds me, I wonder if any status effects would work on bosses. I do think that would be nice if it couldn't be abused and would happen once every so often, you know, just to break an old RPG tradition. Could you imagine a frozen dragon? Why, that would make enough ice to run a bargain-priced snowcone shop!...well, you'd have to sell the snowcones quickly before the dragon breaks free, but still...

Saner
Aug 12, 2006, 05:33 AM
I think all bosses would be immune to status effects, especially freezing.

LOL funny snowcone idea though. reminds me of celebrity deathmatch when that dragon blew up and everyone formed a line with plates. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

None really when it comes to names. I'd like to remind you that the special effects of a character can quickly be swiped away with regen. If PSU is about team work then follow that idea. The point being it would be good to have 2 hunters, 2 rangers and 2 forces in the team to make it even more balanced. As for the multi elemental guys, that is exaclt what I'm going to do, but if ever I'll need to boost a weapon to it's max, the first one to get heavenly powers will be my light weapon.

I'll have a fire saber in one hand cuz my favorite color is red, and a dark saber in the other cuz I think purple goes good with red, heh heh. If I could I'd have a double saber with red on one side and purple on the other, heh heh.

Dark Elemental warrior of course, nothing more fun than using the power of "dark energy" or darkness, otherwise known as "Dark photons"; to destroy pathetic beasts that soil and besmerch the worlds of Gurahl.

How did people in the beta manage to get purple weapons?

did they buy them or find them or synthesize them?
