Ok, I signed up for the HL online with my PC.. and when I try to get online with my game it goes throuh the sign-on process ok and then it goes to connect with the DNS server.. after it tries to do that it gives me an "#102 You were unable to connect to the server please correct your provider's setting and try again"
The thing is... everything IS correct... I have used Automatic DNS lookup and Manual DNS (where you enter the DNS yourself from what the ISP tells you...) and I sign on correct with everything else... user name, pass, etc...

any clue what is wrong? Or what could be wrong...

could it be because I bought the HL online with my PC and it (authorization) hasnt got to the place it needs to be before I can get online?

by the way... Modem adapter

HELP!!

Hmm, what do you have entered for the DNS? If you are on dial-up, it should be all 0's.

Also, moved to tech support.

Since the ISP told me (this was found in the packet they sent me several months ago) the Primary DNS was 216.150.100.1 and the secondary was 216.150.100.2 those are what I entered... and it didnt help... and having it on automatic DNS didnt work either...

Have you tried it with the DNS set to 0.0.0.0 ?

to double check click in Start>Run then type in command.

While in MS DOS type in "winipcfg" it will provide you with all the info you need so you can double check.

Ok... when I try to put 0.0.0.0 (or 0.0.0) as my DNS the game tells me that it is a invalid DNS address, so I guess it can't be all zeros...

And when I try to do "winipcfg" method of finding out info I get this error message, " 'WINIPCFG' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file." I am on WinXP Pro...

I have rechecked everything I have entered for my ISP information and the only things that could possibly be wrong are the DNS number (tried auto and manual look-ups and with the manual I entered the DNS number that I was given from my ISP), and/or the UDP choice (tried it with Auto, On, and Off)

Help...

it sucks that I have already started my free month... wasted days, IMO...

Ok, I tried IPCONFIG -all and it showed my DNS addresses... the two listed under my ISP were the same ones I have already tried...

But for some reason I have another Internet Connection listed under ipconfig with a different DNS, but I dont even know what internet connection that is to... since I only use one ISP...

well i have the exact same problem and i was wondering...
is the is the IP adress the same thing as the primary DNS? so if i put the ISP numbers i got from ipconfig, then what do i use as the secondary DNS?
edit: oh yeah i forgot to mention when i type in ipconfig -all i get something called the primary WINS server and the secondary WINS server, but, there are no numbers following them. its totaly blank.
any ideas what those numbers are or if i need them for PSO?

Update....Update....Update....Update...

OK... I still have the same problem while using my initial ISP with PSO. Let me restate what I have already said (I think)... I never had this problem with the Dreamcast version. Is it my ISP or the game... or even the modem itself?

Points to think about... I entered into the PSO Network Setup MSN as an ISP... and it connected 100%... no slow logon, and it only showed the looking up DNS server screen for about 2 seconds (if that long)

I dont have a modem, but heres what the problem might be...Auto settings work when they send you the info i think, try setting everything manually like the ip address XXX.XXX.XXX.XXXX and not the 255.255.255.255 a dns you might see a few numbers like 209.56.6.1 for example. A dns usually has a 1 on the first set of numbers and a 2 on the second half and do you know if you have to put in a proxy? that could be a problem also. again i dont have the modem so im just using whats off the top of my head and also check ppoe or something like that if you have it.
