According to an article on GameFront.de (http://www.gamefront.de/), the latest issue of Famitsu has rated PSU. It was given a 9/9/8/9 for a total of 35/40. Very nice. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Hehe, yeah. I'm just wondering what that crew didn't like about it enough to give it a 8.

Yeah, I bet it will to [/sarcasm]

(You know, it's the same game)

And to someone who said, "Only an 8," 8 is VERY high on the scale. That's an excellent score. Only gets me more excited and anxious to wait 1 month, 3 weeks and... 4 days? Damn that Nish

Especially when you consider how harsh they are with their scoring criteria. Though I don't take a whole lot of stock in these kinds of reviews, they've typically been right on the money. Of course there are quite a few that take Famitsu's word as gospel.

*sigh* dur 8/10 is very high. I'm wondering what category it is and what compelled them to give it an 8.

Each individual score out of 10 is by a single reviewer, not a specific category like "graphics" or "sound" or "presentation" or what have you--it's a single person. The four reviewers together formulate the final score out of 40.

Ah thanks, Then I'd like to know if the reviews are on the net, so I can find my answer to why that reviewer gave it an 8 *Edit: to be more precise, why he didn't like it enough to give it a 9 or 10*, lol. If anyone finds out, I'd appreciate the post, thanks.

Yeah in terms of Famitsu scoring that is high. I believe a score like that means gold. Anything 36 or higher is platinum.

Ya know something I've noticed though is that the scores Famitsu gives sometimes to certain games (RPG's in particular) tend to be over scored. Now I'm not saying that is the case for PSU, this game deserves that score for sure. But certain games that get a high score over in Japan will get a lesser score when reviewed in another country, cultural prefences aside for a game is good or bad no matter what the region. Katamari anyone?. Let's take Nintendog's for example. Famitsu gave it a whopping 40/40. Gamespot on the other hand gave it a 9.1 which in my opinion is an accurate score. Nintendogs in my opinion aint no 40/40. Another example, Dragon Quest VIII recieved a 39/40. Gamespot gave it an accurate score of 9.0. Although I believe PSU deserves the score of 35/40 (and it should with it's great online mode and 40+ hours of story mode), sometimes Famitsu seems to over score game titles. . . . . .*cough* Final Fantasy XII (40/40) *cough*. . . . . I need some water.

I'm glad PSU has received a high score from such a high tenured magazine. However, there will always be disagreeements about scores and what not. When I read reviews, I like to read why a game got the score it did. Sometimes a reviewer or entire crew maybe be overly annoyed with an aspect of a game that I believe is trivial, or overly enthusiastic about one aspect that I really could careless for in a game.

Bottom line, if you're really interested in a game, do your research on it by going to websites like this, and when the review/preview comes up, mind the score, yes, but read what the reviewer has to say most importantly and mesh that with your own ideals as a gamer of what you really want to see in a game you play.

Vit I really hate ur sig... makes me want it even more... 54 more days, approx, so depressing ;_;

Fami is mostly right on the money however sometimes they do mess up, many recent 40/40 reviews I consider total crap (eventhough getting a perfect score already cues me as a biased score... but that's just me)

Aug 31, 2006, 01:45 AM
Um, yeah... Famitsu reviews are "ok", don't always agree with the indiviual reviewers comments or scores. Most annoying is when they call an RPG "too othodox" um.. it's an RPG, traditional stlye is one thing, but they make it sound like it was some barbaric religion that they are over-critizing just to prove that they are "elite." I stopped caring about Famitsu reviews back in 1993... yeah, I'm "old school." lol so what?

That clock makes me think "no PSU and no PSU make Homer go..something something..."

While I really, really really want to play PSU; I'll have Grandia III, SegaAges Phantasy Star Generations 1,
eventually getting " R-Type Final" from E-Starland, and "Okami " to placate me during Oct. until US version of PSU comes out....

Plus I've got classwork/projects to do for college...

Some of you are being very credulous about the "high" rating. I can imaging the very same people spazzing out had PSU recieved a "bad" rating while questioning the reviewers sanity lol

Well...duh...Blackwaltz. Most of the people here would not want to see a new online PS game fail, most of the people here are PS fanboys and there is nothing wrong with that http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif .

I'm just saying don't get your hopes up just because the reviews are positive in the end its just incite, take it as a grain of salt till you play it. I'm sure many of you passed on Monster Hunter do to the negative press for those of you who even heard of it >.<

If you're saying Famitsu is biased, it's definately true. RPG's often get much higher scores than they would get from 'western'-sites or magazines.

Jinto117
Aug 31, 2006, 11:07 AM
I'm predicting Gamespot will give PSU a score from the range of 8.5-9.1

They are usually honest with their reviews. Unlike that clutter of a site IGN.

Great news!

I have a feeling the Western press will not be as kind. I bet The Edge gives it a 7 at best (which is a good score for them).

If EGM get some PSO fans on the review it *might* get a 9.

Personally I think I'm going to giove it a critic's 9.5 and a personal 10 http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Not really. Read their review for Monster Hunter/Monster Hunter Freedom, it's absolute garbage and they scored both games miserably (5.2, 6.4, I believe), yet from people who actually play the game past the introduction period I hear nothing but praise. I myself have sunk well over 1500 hours into the various MH games. The only real problem with the games are the slow start and extremely steep learning curve.
