eh so basically they divided the sega link Id into several different services, because it was growing so large so rapidly, as if they didnt anticipate it, what with the release of a new, highely advertised mmorpg and whatnot.

anyways, once you get to the point where you can register for a sega link ID that is compatible with PSU, the only game in their "online game" section besides PSOBB, the page breaks again.

man, i skipped class and stood in line for an hour only to stand in line for another 13 hours. oh well...maybe when i wake up everything will be fine. guess i better go buy some ciggarrettes,

Why would you say that? It doesnt make sense. The site is down cus the game is doing good? The games has only been out for a day and no one can register. To me thats not good. Of course you got your few lucky ones that were able to register befor the site closed down. It just doesnt look good for a MMO launch.

Nekomimi

The site is buckling because so many hundreds or thousands of people are requesting pages at once that it's basically a DDoS attack on the site. Inadvertently, of course, but that's the effect it's having. So yes, it's an indication that the game is selling massively, the same as WoW did. And as for not looking good for an MMO, find me one POPULAR MMO that didn't have severe problems the first day.

http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif Maybe I'm just less sympathetic because I have the PS2 version and I'm not playing online anyway, so it doesn't matter to me.

I dunno about you but it took me like a week to get any kind of stability in WoW, and even then it was only possible because I retreated to one of the less populated RP only servers (where I never actually saw anyone RP). Guild Wars had some problems although they weren't as pronounced. FFXI I can't speak for since I have avoided that game like it carries ghonnahepasyphilitis. (omg not a real disease, but a joke).

Nekomimi
Aug 31, 2006, 11:35 AM
PSO doesn't even begin to approach the popularity of the bigger MMOs. And if you're seriously trying to tell me that PSOBB didn't have problems, then you obviously didn't play it. I was there. I remember the day EpIV opened and I couldn't pick up that shiny v101 I found.

Like I mentioned before in other threads, I've never seen a mainstream online RPG have a smooth launch, ever. Not World of Warcraft, not Final Fantasy XI, and Phantasy Star Universe is no exception. We'll just have to wait it out. That's just the way it goes.

Final Fantasy XI when it debuted in Japan was plagued with problems for a straight month. Any individuals who act like PSU has the worst online RPG launch in history apparently weren't around to see Square struggling to straighten things out in Japan like tons of useless registration codes (http://www.rpgfan.com/news/2002/1468.html), people being charged money when trying to register even though the process failed (http://www.rpgfan.com/news/2002/1454.html), and so on. They also weren't paying attention when Anarchy Online made its debut (http://www.somethingawful.com/index.php?a=216). And don't get me started on World of Warcraft's laggy zones and server queues just to login to a realm (http://www.leagueofpirates.com/sirvival/queuedance.html) when it launched.

Sega probably underestimated the amount of people that want to play this game. Things'll resolve in time, just relax and do something else. I want to play just as much as anyone else, but... eh. This really is par for the course.

Yeah, ok. I'm sure the majority of North America is just itching for a game they can't even understand, and that hasn't been advertised.

If the site is back logged, it means it's doing well. Be happy. And if you stop trying to connect for a while, you'll let someone else through. Every person that gets through is one less person adding congestion to the site.

Patience is a virtue.

doubt it xP
With PSOBB Sega America wasnt expecing many people, and their servers were set to only handle like 40 people at a time including their message boards. then PSOBB came and hunderds of people registered and slowed the boards down to a crawl, and then eventually they crashed. Though the billing site was through Europe, and I dont remember it crashing, but everything to do with Sega America was down, they were the community site for PSOBB and will be with PSU too...

Lets just hope they have enough bandwidth this time for the community site x3

I think the black one might be Extra Mode. You know the easiest way to tell is to just try each option...

Other than that it says which mode it is in English in the top left corner...

When you double click the icon on your desktop to start the game select the second option from the list of stuff that comes up. The game will boot up and you'll be able to select network mode and not story mode.

EDIT: So you're right, but it still can't be accessed that way.

Network mode is accessed from the second option of the LAUNCH menu. (First option is Offline Mode, second is Online mode, third is Website, fourth is Config, fifth is Credits, sixth is Exit.)

When you select Offline mode, the next menu is Story Mode, Network Mode (although you can't use it from here), Quit.

When you select Online mode, the first option I guess is Story Mode (which can't be accessed from here), but the second checks for patches and then logs you on, the third option quits the game.

Nope. You need to login with a segalink account in order to play the storymode. Your saved games are kept on the servers so you could access them somewhere else.

What's funny is how you're wrong. That's Extra mode.

It says Network Mode in katakana.

When you launch the game from CD you have to click on network mode. It's the second one down from the top. In the game the story mode option should appear black when you click on the right one.

Edit: Darn, someone beat me to it.

No problem. =)

EDIT: And, well, if it says Network Mode.. you still can't access it through there anyway. I haven't unlocked Extra Mode yet, myself, but I do know how to change between Network and Story mode.. and it's how I stated.

And.. zomg *edits other post*
