"Couldn't connect to server. Maybe it's under maintenance [note: I don't think this is the case]. Please go check at the official site for maintenance news; to title / retry."
Just try again or something, probably just meant you failed to log in. Maybe the servers are busy or something?

Babelfish'd news articles talk about problems logging in after registering, but with the way it's garbled I can't make much sense of it. So, I'm not sure if there's some weird problem going on with registration or what.

People on IRC could probably help you out. My copy has yet to ship, so yeah. ~_~

I'm doing what I can, but I've got limited knowledge as is...The accounts seem to work, but there's something not allowing it to go through.

Some suggestions I've had, are to take down your firewall and/or any Anti-Virus programs.

I've done it all so far and still get das 051. I know it's not account related because I had someone else log into the account and they got through. Turning off firewall, AV program, and any other program in the background has give no results. Pretty close to the give up point xP

And just as I'm on the brink of quitting for the night, I find the problem.

Those using NOD32's antivirus system may need to add the Sega folder to AMON/IMON's exclusion list.

Does PSU require you to open any ports?

Not sure if virus protection is the case, I shut all of mine off... firewalls and all, and I still get the 051 error.

Believe one of the FAQ's mentioned 11000-11099 and 12000-12099.

I don't fucking know how to open ports.

I shouldn't have to.

I should just install a game and it should run.

I'm not sure Sega's the one to blame for this hot headedness.

It isn't Sega's fault their game did so well it's crashing their servers.

Calm down already.

It's not the bloody servers that are down.

My PS2 works fine.

Attention guys. If you have McAfee, get rid of it. I just uninstalled it from my computer, and it let me in.

McAfee kinda sucks anyway. I uninstalled it as soon as I hooked up my PC. Get Zone Alarm or something >_>

In the case of McAfee's Internet Security suite, you may need to manually allow access for PSU. For McAfee you need to open the Security Center and Personal Firewall. Click on the VIEW THE INTERNET APPLICATIONS LIST. Find PSU and make sure it is listed as ALLOW FULL ACCESS. If it isn't right click in the PERMISSIONS area and select it. If for some strange reason PSU is not listed click on NEW ALLOWED APPLICATION and browse for the psu.exe.

Zone Alarm is another easy one. Open ZA and select the PROGRAM CONTROL tab. Find PSU and rightclick in the ACCESS and SERVER fields and set everything to a green check mark. If PSU is not listed click the ADD button and browse for the psu.exe.

If I have the time I will try to put together a few tutorials with various Firewall/Security Suites included.

As for openning ports, there is an excellent site with many router brands listed that should help you:
http://portforward.com/routers.htm

Obviously PSU won't be listed so just pick your router brand/model and select a random game and follow the instructions except use the ports needed for PSU which I believe Triela listed as 11000-11099 and 12000-12099.

Unfrotunately when I had McAfee installed, PSU's programs already had full access, etc. Still wouldn't let me through.

It's always Sonic Team. I cna't epxect good with out some flaw in it becuase I don't think they are competent enough.

ShinMaruku, it's not, it's usually the fault of firewalls that block things that normally shouldn't be blocked.
It's usually fixed by knowing where to open the ports, add exclusions to games, etc.
This is NOT Sonic Team's fault, sorry to disappoint you.

What i usualy do is turn off my fire wall until the game loads and then i turn it back on. That usualy works some times. I

So you're not going to be on PSU then, I take it? Because paying for a product that you think is designed by individuals that you think are "incompetent" is pretty stupid.

If you don't know how to use your computer and troubleshoot without really knowing exactly what the problem is, you've really got no business importing PC software that's in another language, then complaining when it doesn't work.

That said, if you need to open ports or forward ports, http://www.portforward.com is the place to be.

I agree if you don't know what your doing on the pc when it comes to making a game run properly then importing the game just makes it even harder..

Well, here's some more people that had McAfee as the route of their problem with error 51: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=926988&topic=30302500 (I take no credit)

If you don't want to follow the link, they recommended completely deleting McAfee instead of opening ports and turning off firewalls.

I am attempting to connect to online mode in PSU and I am getting an error 51. I have a Japanese PS2, a SegaLink account and my network settings are working and in order. Any help would be appreciated as this is the first time that I am attempting to connect. I have a screen cap of the error located here:
