CD key that comes w/ the game, do you need it when you make hunter's license? Or during installation too?

Polly
Sep 2, 2006, 04:25 PM
It's not used during installation, but you do need to enter your key to obtain a Guardian's License or whatever in order to use your 30 day trial/pay with netcash/whatever.

I'll be on PSU PC when it's released.

AMD Athlon XP 3200+
1GB Corsair dual-channel RAM
PNY GeForce 6800GT 256MB

Weakest part of my system is the CPU, but I expect to be running PSU as high as it'll go with no problems.

Whats your definition of smooth as silk? I have nearly the same setup and have the game at 800*600 res and 30 fps. I'd rate PSU severely below expectations when I can normally run everything at 1024 res with better framerate

Only 1280 x 1024. Friggin annoying. I wish it supported 1920 x 1200

AMD Athlon X2 4200+
1GB of OCZ El Platinum Rev2 DDR PC3200 RAM
ATI Radeon X850XT Platinum Edition video card

Running PSU @ 1280x960 on "High" settings with the effect bar (the one above clipping bars) slid from High to Medium. (More because it's an annoyance than my PC being crippled from it..)

Getting a solid 60fps with no slow down when the action picks up.. (I only get slowdown when I'm attempting to capture a movie.. = New SCSI HD will, hopefully, fix that though. =D)

You did remember to change the frameskip to zero? With the frameskip set to 1, it'll run at 30 fps no matter your setup.

Are you saying you've tried it at higher resolutions and it doesn't run well? o_0 I'd recommend 1GB of RAM for anyone, though, as online games are generally pretty RAM intensive, and with only 512MB, you'll run out quick and be working with s l o w virtual memory.

Certainly. Having fast RAM (low latencies, dual-channel for more bandwidth, etc.) certainly helps, but having a gig of any (halfway decent) DDR RAM should keep you from going into virtual memory hell, which is the important thing.

But my proccessor is a AMD Sempron 3200+ with 1.7Ghz. Will it ruin my overall graphic abilities?

Yeah on about medium settings I believe. That 6400 card is good for a laptop, your memorys alright (buy another stick of pc3200 SODIMM if you get jerky frame rates thats assuming your using 3200 id use CPU-Z and find out what speed it is first before buying obviously.) and your processor is the shits(thats a good thing) its the equivalent of a 3.2 GHZ p4

Actually the RAM itself is not dual channel. Dual channel refers to a feature of the motherboard in which the memory controllers utilize two 64-bit channels which gives a peak bandwidth of 128-bits. Basically it doubles the throughout from the RAM to the memory controller.

The reason I said arguably is because it is just that, I noticed that my x800 xl runs NFS2 underground at higher resolution and better FPS then the 6800, yet in games like far cry, the 6800 DOES have a slightly better FPS average.

And if you're wondering, one of my friends got the 6800 while I got the x800xl...was about 80 bucks cheaper and performs (about) just as well.

Like I said, don't get angry just because you can't afford to live the good life. The only reason I mentioned my own setup is to reinforce the fact that his setup isn't anywhere NEAR unattainable. I hope you're remembering to compare the 6800GT and not the plain 6800. There's a bit of a difference.

If your X800XL is the 512MB version, then yeah, it does outperform the 6800GT by a little bit. Not all that much, though (at least not according to various benchmarks I've seen), and the 6800GT takes the lead in one or two applications (like 3DMark, not that 3DMark means too much). Anyway, I bought the 6800GT quite a while ago, and I'm pretty happy with the performance it can achieve even in my antiquated rig, so I'm happy with it. It'll definitely run PSU nicely, and PSU will be keeping me busy for quite a while.
