Impressive figures. I guess Sega underestimated the fans & the marketing dept. Let's hope the release here is comparable.. somewhat. ;]

Meh. I just hope the fan base is big enough to motivate ST to keep with it. Don't care how popular it is.

Wow, FF3 had a tremendous dropoff. 500k last week to 45k this week, I thought for sure it would stay at #1 another week

Congrats to PSU for getting #1 though. I wonder if the game will have solid sales in following weeks, or if all the diehards just got it the first week

No these are just PS2 sales but PC games are not very popular in Japan.

You're ignorant. Japan isn't the "Land of the Rising Sun", it's the "Land of the Rising Nintendo DS", and for any non-DS title to occupy the top position on a sales chart should be considered very impressive nowadays.

Wow, nice post! These first week sales bode well for the game...let's see where it is after a month...

Good, the better it sells the better/more frequent content updates we'll get... mmm, faster we get an expansion disk. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

I hope it does the same here, but there is one detail that I hope they'll resolve...
PLEASE LET THERE BE ENOUGH SPACE ON THE SERVERS WHEN WE ALL GO ONLINE!!!

The time is ripe for Sega of America to start kicking up the hype machine, I think.

They already have dude. There are already advertisements in front of shops for where I live. Not to mention the main site is up, so that's really saying something.

However, I don't think it will be as succesful as next week, mainly because of the problems that have presented themselves with the Japanese release, I can already hear it now....across the country of Japan, teenagers are telling their freinds to WAIT until next month to get it, so they don't get disappointed when their characters are wiped lol.

Still, its hardly "beaten" the juggernaut that is NSMB,

From a a couple of weeks ago on gamasutra:

In its absence, New Super Mario Bros. has returned to the top spot, once again selling over 100,000 units - twelve weeks after its initial release.

If PSU manages that, THEN I'll be impressed http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif.

Well, there was a post regarding that earlier. Japan has been dominated by the DS for quite some time now, and for a non DS game to be on top, that's pretty impressive already.

Doesn't mean much in a weekly sales chart.

Remember when people a year ago were saying how they'd be the next Sega. Goes to prove how people will blurt out unfounded statements on the internet.

Well, maybe not in the handheld market. Their console performance has been going down, but portable sales alone are enough to keep them doing fiscally well.

When PSU hit 1,000,000 within a month, then I'll be impressed. This weekly sale is actually pretty low, comparing to some of the high end like NSMB and FFIII, which goes by something close to 5 times the sale of PSU within the first week. I think the marketing guys in SEGA did a pretty good job to stick PSU in the week with less competitive games comming out, which allow their name to hit some notice; hopfully this will aid them in advertising the game some more.

True, also, you gotta remember, New Super Mario Bros. did around like 900,000 on the first 4 days, so in other words, Psu pretty much fails at that number XD.
But it's still very good =).

I wonder if more units will be sold next week, yet these are only PS2 numbers, PC mustn't be very big, but who knows?
