Synthesis Leftovers

[Tycho]

At some point during Story Mode I was going to synthesize a Shintsukezashi with light element.

It failed.

Instead, I recevied the following item.

To my knowledge, only very little information is currently available on this item type of so-called 'synthesis leftovers'.

Did your synthesis go wrong as well? Received an item that didn't seem to do anything and hasn't really been documented well anywhere? Posting about it here woud be appreciated.

edit: On a more serious note, for some reason I remember reading in the tutorial portion of synthesis that even failures may produce interesting items. Odd thing is I'm pretty sure I can't read that much japanese.

What's really interesting about the picture is that it looks like it's saying that it's a four color trash? Does this mean if this is reused in a synthesis the resulting item would have multiple properties?

edit2: does it really say that it's edible and zero calories?

Maby some of the 'synthesis leftovers' are keys to open up mini games or something? i dunno but thats pretty cool that the leftovers make something instead of being just trash.

Yeah, it does seem to be some sort of candy, though I couldn't use it (didn't try in Missions).
The other items I've heard about are 'Koltoba Sandwich' and 'Tears of the Stellar Spirit' (the latter of which was supposedly able to make someone younger by a year). From the descriptions, all seemed to be edibles.

I don't know what it is use for, but it say in the text "A book with "Owarai" written on it in Newman text. Perhaps it can be used as a synthesis material for some kind of special weapon." (from PSUpedia)

Edit: I think it can be made for a book weapon

That would be really interesting, if some of the higher end Synth recipes require ingredients you can only get from failed syntheses... o_0
