Anyone playing a US PS2 online?

I imported the game for PS2 and am using Swap Magic with a flip-lid to play. I have successfully changed my console ID number to a Japanese ID but cannot seem to get past the DNAS screen. Is anyone playing online with a US Playstation 2? I just want to know if I should keep trying things or just give up and wait until October to get in on the online play.
