View Full Version : PSU: Just wondering about about leveling up classes(job)

Clyde
Sep 10, 2006, 09:38 AM
I just wanted to know a little bit about leveling up the character classes and if they gave any bonuses or does leveling a class just give a better selection of available weapons. I was hoping though that getting a ranger up from level 5 to 8 or something would allow more damage or maybe increased accuracy, or better still increased attack speed. Please tell me im correct, if only in a small way. k

Class lvls do 2 things.

Firstly, your stats will increase, particularly those that are important for your Class. Hunters, for example, will get more HP and ATP than the other classes.

Secondly, when reaching certain Class Levels you may 'Rank Up' - that is to say, your proficiency with certain weapon types will increase, allowing you to use more powerful weapons. For example, you may level up your Hunter Class and upon reaching a certain Class Level for Hunters, your proficiency with Sabers may rise from C to B, allowing you to use B-Rank Sabers.

If you should change your class, the stat boosts you got from the class will be removed but should you change back you will regain the stat boosts.

lol, cool ty. i was wondering a bit bout losing stat boosts also during class changes so thanks for clearing that up. So no increased damage or speed : oh well, wishful thinking on my part.

ok, when you say that sabers may rise from C to B, is that the game automatically doing that, or do you select a weapon class to upgrade?

Flwl3ssCowboy
Sep 10, 2006, 03:13 PM
I think it's automatic, i don't care either way, as both are pretty good. Though there are a few ways I could imagine it being done:

1. Automatic rank up, all weapons get a rank up
2. Auto-rank up, wepon you use gets a rank up
3. Manual rank up, you choose weapon-type in your current class to rank up

like I said though, these are the ways i can imagine it being done, and I THINK that rank up is done the first way

I believe its kind of like 2 Flwl, because I see people with Green, and Blue weapons at the same time, and I believe that Blue is higher than Green. I know its not all weapons, but I guess the one you use the most (Is it calculated by damage, or by time played with weapon?)

Heres a reference to what I'm talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTQyBVN6Xww

Notice his daggers and 2handed sword are blue, while his twin sabers and others are green. His double pistols are even yellow (Is that high?)

no, actually, colors don't determine how strong the weapon is, it determines the element of the weapon, like green = normal, red = fire, blue = ice, yellow = lightning, you get the idea.

I hope that you can pick which upgrade you get

Clyde

So the colors on the weapons are the colors of Ethans "Armor" each one according to element, learned something new, not to steer away from the post but what is the strength and differnce between one element against another. I mean I saw the elements table on PSUPedia, but its a bit difficult to follow. According to it Zonde is ineffective against Earth, but Earth isnt effective against Zonde. Maybe I just read it wrong or somthing.

This could actually be important to know when I make my Force, so just thought I'd ask, while I have some peoples attention.

The color is determined by which photon art you have attached.

Chaobo99
Sep 10, 2006, 04:09 PM
when your type of weapon class increases? does saber rank count as all weps or do you pick like

Saber class C
Sword Class C
Spear Class B
Dagger Class C -> B

The photon color on your weapon is the element of your weapon. Forces can choose element at will by sticking all techs of the same element on a Staff or Wand. Rangers just load different element bullets into the guns. Melee weapons always have a specific element when you buy it in the store, but you can get different elements by synthing your own weapons.

The color of the paint on your weapon is the actual rank of your weapon. It starts out red then goes to blue->green->yellow->purple I think. So the paint on your weapon in PSU is the same as the photon color from PSO now.

Okay, dang, I definitely knew that was for clothing/armor but I didn't really know thats how the weapon system worked... Thanks for the info. Does anyone know if it costs a lot to change the element of weapons/armor?

Ether

Melee weapons and Armor I dont think you can change the element of unless it was bought or crafted that way. Most weapons you buy are neutral, but a few (like one of the 2000 meseta dual daggers)

Guns are naturally neutral and become the element of the bullet you put in them

Force weapons are also neutral, but will become elemental if you equip only one element of spells into them. You get a 4% damage bonus with 2 spells of the same element, 8% with 3, and 12% with four

i remember watching a video for the walk-thru of the first offline mission, during that video the player does something in the weapons area of the menu (im pretty sure its where you can change class) the weapon symbols are all marked either C or B next to them (depending on the class), so it's my (wild and uneducated) guess that:

As you level up your class, ALL weapons get a rank-up (eventually), but the "out of class" weapons have a lower max rank or take a bit longer to get to their max rank (i.e. as a hunter you either level sabers etc. to S, and handguns for example to a max rank of A OR sabers etc reach S-rank first and handguns at a later level)

whew, hope i didn't make that too confusing, I'll post the video when i find it so you can see the part I was talking about (there's a lot of cinema and fighting before the "class change" part)

Here it is: http://www.gamebrink.com/playstation-2/1128-Phantasy_Star_Universe-video-1.html

Do you know if this works for support techs?

wow... lots of wrong info...

the paint on the weapon goes
red->blue->yellow->green->haven't seen yet

the blade of the weapon is based on the element that it is, not the PA (this is mistaken because ranger and force PAs give the element to the weapon)
green - no element
red - fire
yellow - lightning
blue - ice
???? - earth
purple - dark
white - light

Class lvl adds stats and determines rank
rank determines the cap on your PAs
for example if your C-rank on a weapon your cap is lvl10, B-rank i think is most likely 20 (haven't reached it yet)

level of PAs governs stats that i don't know what they are, and as you go up you can add consecutive PA attacks. like the Saber PA you start with hits and spin slashes and sends the enemy into the air for it's first levels and 2nd level if you use it again you jump up and slash causing the enemy to fly away

There also seems to be a cap to the amount of PAs you can have (36) so you best choose your PAs wisely

Rank also determines what lvl of weapon you can use. Currently what has been seen in online is 3 C-rank weapons per type and 2 B-Rank weapons per type

It sounds like Fire Emblem, good, I'm used to that http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

One question on this: for Rangers, do the Bullets loaded into your firearms count against this cap? Or are the Bullets first associated with some other PA, which then counts against the cap?

DurakkenX
Sep 11, 2006, 01:31 AM
each bullet counts as a PA... there may not be a cap at all but that's what i have been told that 36 means it seems right because it says (#of current PAs / 36)

this means if you want all techs you can't have any other PAs and i think you can't have 1because you start with 1PA and there are 36spells...

since i haven't filled my list with all these PAs i don't know whether you can delete an older PA or not either.... could test it though with an extra mode character ^.^

If I were to get every single bullet, how many PAs would that take up? I'm using a ranger but I want to melee too,

Kaply
Sep 11, 2006, 06:01 AM
That's a hard question to answer because it comes down to whether or not you can use all ranged weapons. For now it looks like rangers can't use bows. There's also a one handed gun that they can't use. It may be that if you become a ranger specialist you lose the abilities to use weapons (note: speculation). If you want to attempt to count it, currently it looks like it's 6 elemental bullets per weapon type though.

I have a quick question about the PA's in the shop, bullets specifically.

Can someone tell me what order they appear on the list, i.e Fire, Lightning, Dark etc, because I am kind of blindly buying at the moment, and knowing which is which wouldbe greatly appreciated! Could anyone also enlighten me to which elements are good against which others?

Also, even though I am a ranger, can I still buy and use a PA for my spear?

Thanks in advance!

shadowneo look at psupedia.org for translations

i don't think rangers can use spears but if they can they are Cranked starting off which means you can get up to lvl10 spear lvl

So is the color of the weapon rank and not element, because I can't seem to get a straight answer.

I had thought that the color of the weapon meant its element (not including rares; those could be different) such as blue for barta type, green for a general normal damage against any monster, and yellow for zonde. Now i hear its actually rank, which doesn't make a lick of sense because from what I have seen from movies, the damage a character does against is based more on the element of the weapon rather then type.

In the movie I saw someone slashing a monster with blue daggers and doing 8-11 damage per strike while when they switched out to a some sort of green machine gun they were doing 30+ damage. Now either that means that the guns are actually stronger or that Im right and its the element which makes all the difference. BTW the monsters were Barta type (blue) so the damage was less barta against barta type creatures gives horrible damage IE. color is element. Unless someone convinces me Im wrong, thats what Ill consider true.

clyde it's not hard if you read what i wrote v.v

on the HANDLE/HILT there is a color...this color signifies STAR LEVEL or TIER
the BLADE is also a color... this color signifies ELEMENT

rank is not show on the weapon... only in the status screen

Ryoga4523

It is sort of confusing... like does each bullet type (fire, ice, lightning etc..) take up one of your 36 PA's. So if I am assuming this method is correct, than if I have a shotgun a rifle and a gun, and each has four different bullets, does that mean that I only have 24 more slots available??

DurakkenX
Sep 11, 2006, 10:49 PM
Ryoga...

you start with saber PA and have 1/36 PAs used
Saber and Handgun (plus or minus weapons based on race)

you then have to go to the weapon store and buy other PAs... now if you buy all of the bullet PAs that are available for handgun in clyez city you will have 4 PA discs... you then use these and they are added to your list so that you would then have

Saber PA
Handgun Fire PA
Handgun Ice PA
Handgun Thunder PA
Handgun Earth? PA

and have 5/36 PAs used

each PA costs 1000+ mesetta btw...

Well I think I am starting to understand ... so to recap there are two colors to weapon then one specific to the RANK and the other (the one goes slicing through enemies) is Element. I hope thats what you mean or I am lost again. Maybe I will just have to wait for the game to come out , before all this PA , Skill, Element , and Rank start to sink in.

look... rank is not the star level it's not that hard to understand... ranks can have several tiers of weapons.... tiers or star lvls are what is shown on the handle. the blade...you know the thing you hit enemies with? that changes colors based on the element of the weapon.

Now i've explained this 3 or 4 times.... if you don't get it you are a friggin moron.

Dude dude dude, you're getting so worked up. I mean, I do understand that they don't understand what you're saying, and yes, they may be a bit slow because of it. But then again, in this situation, you're also getting so worked up about something you're wrong about. And infact, their misunderstanding if your statement is just as true as your statement is.

1 to 3 stars == C Rank
4 to 6 stars == B Rank
7 to 9 stars == A Rank
10 stars == S rank (perhaps 10+?)

Anyways, each "star level" also has a paint color associated with it.
C rank handguns (1 to 3 stars)
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/CrankHandguns.jpg
From left to right. Red (1star), Blue (2star), Green (3 star)

B rank mechguns (4 to 6 stars) (excuse the photon colors, I actually use mechguns and forgot to take the bullets off)
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/BrankMechguns.jpg
From left to right. Yellow (4star), Orange (5star), Purple (6star)

And as for the elements, the color of the photon changes, as said before:
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/MechgunElements.jpg
1st row: Fire, Ice, Lightning
2nd row: Earth, Holy, Dark

I don't know if its just my eyes, but even on different color guns and on swords and such, Earth (orange) actually looks more red than Fire. With fire having sort of a magenta color.

So how does the class thing work? Can you just choose which class you want to be for each mission???
You have to go to the guardian hq to change your class. Online it costs an increasing amount of meseta based on your level, so it pays to stick to one. This is also a bit out of the way for changing repeatedly.

you'd be a low level force, with low level techs. if you're planning on going force, you might as well just tough it through the beginning. You're only going to get even more and more fragile as time goes on.
