Yes but i think that i can play with modem adapter but with a slow speed.
On the Dreamcast version of the game, it was possible to setup a bridging PC. You would dial into this PC and the PC would send out your traffic on its network connection. This arrangement was awkward and unreliable. I figure you would be able to do something like that for the Gamecube version. It just depends on how technically inclined you are, the resources you have at your disposal, and how much effort you want to put into it.
Also, you may want to see whether your DSL company offers free dialup with their broadband services.

Try checking Nintendo's Modem/Broadband Support page (http://www.nintendo.com/online/index.jsp). You might be able to find an answer there.
I believe, however, that it is possible. You just need to make certain that you plug in a phone cord and do not plug into a DSL data jack. (I have, in the past, dialed into the internet with my PC while my DSL modem and wireless router were down. It should be the same concept with the GC modem.) Again, I think it's feasible. I'm just not certain.
And as Ryna pointed out, you'll need to check with your DSL provider to see what kind of dial-up access you have (and you'll need a dial-up access number from them). I know for my Bellsouth DSL I get 20 free dial-up hours a month. After 20 hours, it costs a me premium to continue using dial-up.

The Broadband Adapter is (as the name implies) for broadband, and the Modem Adapter is for Dial-up (Narrowband). The way signals are modulated is different with both Dial-up and Broadband, so you can't use one adapter for another purpose than what it was made for.
So I don't think you can use your Modem Adapter to connect your Gamecube through your ADSL line.

If it is like my DSL, there is a "splitter" in each jack to allow for standard phone use (where a modem can be used) and one for data (broadband).
Yes, obviously, because even people with DSL like to be able to make use of their phones. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif
But for that Modem Adapter to work,
Nintendo Customer Service (http://www.nintendo.com/online/buy_modem.jsp):
You will need to have an existing dial up internet service provider in order to use the Nintendo GameCube Modem Adapter to play games online.
Or does your ISP provide you with both Dial-up and Broadband at the same time?
Or is it your DSL Modem that's capable of processing both at once? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_confused.gif I know I haven't kept up with all developments in that area.. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

What Tom said is right (go Tom lol) Anyways the hardware to convert data is different.
I suggest buying a broadband adapter because it is worth it since you can get hundreds of hours on this game.

The cables are completely different. 56k uses a RJ-11 cable and ASDL uses a RJ-45 cable. They will not work with that set up.
