.hack//GU and PSU release on the same day in the US.
They both release on october 24.
PSU could get overshadowed by .hack//GU

I think it'll be a case of apples and oranges; real online RPG vs. faux online RPG. I doubt it'll make much difference, though, what with legions and legions upon legions of gamers (or "gamers") waiting with bated breath for Final Fantasy XII on the 30th.

And speaking of RPGs, anyone know whatever happened to Rogue Galaxy?

It does? Oh snap.

.hack fans and PS fans are two different sets of people. People are getting .hack for the awesome story line, as in PS fans are more or less getting it for the online mode.

The original .hack games werent my thing, but I think GU actually looks good... I'll get it, but I can wait till christmas for it http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

I doubt it - expecially since .hack//G.U. is an offline only RPG (fragment is the online title, and it may never see release outside of Japan). If it were Final Fantasy or some other BIG name RPG, then perhaps... but I honestly don't think that that many people really care about .hack anymore.

o yea i completely forgot about .hack. lol PSu has robbed me of my sense of other games. Even though .hack GU seems like it will be a good game i think PSU may still do better because Hack is only for PS2 while PSU is going to be for 360ps2 adn pc. thats just one of my reasons. the other is like everyone else said before, PSu will be online while .hack will give you the idea of being online but not really.

I beat Story already on my Import Copy so I got "Nothing to live for" on PSU... .Hack//GU during my Maintence.

I think this is pretty much the case. People who want a quicker, linear game with smoother controls would be happy with .Hack, but they'd miss out on the vast depth that PSU has to offer.

I'd have to say as far as a 'Story Mode' goes, there's no comparison: .Hack//G.U. will destroy every RPG since Phantasy Star 4. That is, of course, my opinion and I'm aware that few to none of the members on this board will agree with me.

As a side note, for those of you planning to pick up .Hack//G.U., I'd recommend playing the original .Hack titles if possible. Not only will things actually make sense, but you can convert the data and start G.U. @ Lv 30.

Yeah, the .hack story line has to be one of the most interesting I've ever seen/heard/played in my RPG life, XD.

It's got so many twists and turns to it.

It's got so many twists and turns to it.

Yeah, except to understand any of it you have to buy the games, watch the anime, read the manga, play the card game... blah blah.. it's the "Merch" syndrome. Dads of the world, cover your asses and run for the hills.

And by the way... since when did Kite become Neo?

Speaking of .Hack, they really should make a MMORPG of it, the concept of a game about an MMORPG that really isn't an MMORPG is kinda retarded, it was a good anime Idea, but as a game, why beat around the bush and not just make it what its about?

Yeah, you could't even make your own character. In the original quadrilogy, I wanted to be a Blademaster, not a Twin Blade! Also, Wavemasters are kinda gimped because of those stupid Magic Tolerance assholes that plague certain areas...

GU looks to have the same stuck-with-a-premade-character problem. But, at least its story is gonna rule, and the gameplay looks to be a massive improvement over the old four. (much like PSU's big improvement over PSO actually!)

But I only have the money for PSU and Tales of the Abyss, so...I aint gonna Grow Up for a while...

I have both pre-ordered. I love both games, thats all there is to it I guess. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif Though I'll be pounding on PSU hard for a good long while before I play G.U. I've been waiting longer for PSU. I guess I'll use that as my excuse for ignoring .hack. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif But still, I will definately agree with what was said earlier. .hack for the story, PSU for the online content (and the fact I actually get to play with friends instead of AI's). So I guess I'll be playing G.U. during the downtime (I hope that we won't have any JP server repeat incidences). Give us PSU! Or at least a time machine so I can skip up to Oct 24th. A guy can hope can't he? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Edit: Yea, lots of people complained about being stuck as a twin blade (myself included). But at least you can be a multi-class in G.U. So you'll have 3 classes (twin-blade, brandish, lasher). To each his own I guess.

AC9breaker, we're talking about GU.. not the previous games.. GU features a different combat engine too.. check out the gameplay videos on IGN or something.. looks pretty fun.

you're not the only one, fellow ninebreaker. I hated the .hack games as well, and only finished them because I felt obligated to finish the story. Really though, GU is worth taking a look at. If it's really as improved as it looks, the old four may wind up being all but forgotten.

Ive been drooling over both games for a while, but .hack//G.U. had be over shadowed because of old ffxi friends. Although, recently i saw the trailer for the 2nd volume and it's taken over my interest(vid's and pics on this forum have kept my interest in PSU).

Online / Friends -- PSU
Awesome Story -- .hack//G.U.

btw, heres the link for the 2nd volume vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOtaeBTjj9g
*PROBABLY HAS SOME SPOILAGE!*

They did, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.hack//fr%C3%A4gment) but it isn't coming to North America.

I'm with Sinue on the "Merch" angle. If it were easier to just jump into, then maybe I could see myself getting into it. Ergh, add to that the original four games were, what, $50 apiece for 10 hours of gameplay each?

Unsubstantiated rumours say 2008.

I think overshadowed is a bit of a extreme term considering the games don't have much in common. Lets say if a popular brand name made a game like PSU for example Diablo 3 and it was actually action based First/third ish combat I'd worry.

I've been following the anime, and will be getting both and the Burning Crusade...gotta have something to do between/during raiding http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Hmmm. Last I checked (yesterday) Rogue Galaxy was due late Jan of '07.

And even though I'm playing a LOT right now like Chromehounds, Disgaea 2, Enchanted Arms, Xyanide, Yakuza, Rule Of Rose, and not to mention upcoming games like Okami, Silmeria, and .hack//G.U., they will all take a back seat to PSU once I get it.

I even asked for my vacation the week after for non-stop action! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

.hack//G.U combat system HAS evolved, and a lot, similar from Pso to Psu, like someone said.

The storyline's fresh, we see new faces as well as some, could we say "modded" old ones.

IN G.U, in the game itself you will create your guild yourself I heard.

Also, as I saw in an interview, they aren't planning for any MMORPG of the actual game to come to NA at all, don't know about Japan though.

That'ts the most I know.
